  1. door handles are a doddle mate, DIY job :)
  2. damn you, I'm looking at those manifold pipes in a whole new light now
  3. not having done this before I'm not 100% sure but I 'think' you should be able to get a grip on the cable through the hole where the grille should be (not wanting to rub it in but...!) pair of pliers on that and give it a good yank...
  4. that'll look stunnging on the engine! mmmm black n silver shiny bits *dribble*
  5. at least you're covered mate, thats the main thing. the worst part is its not even your fault! I would have thought you could get it all sorted out for under £250 though? couple of 2nd hand handles, a grille and a badge shouldnt be too much, then its should just be a case of getting a good electrician to fix the alarm. The bonnet cable (from what I hear) isnt too tricky to replace. might save you some cash in the long run if your insurance is going to hike by £500!
  6. barstewards! not a nice thing to wake up to mate, i feel for you. on the insurance front, I was told that I didnt need to present a thatcham certificate since my alarm was installed over 5 years ago, and thats how long the certificates are valid for... really dont know how it works becuase the insurance company needed a cat1 to insure me at all, then didnt need proof... :? I would guess that if the insurance company has issued you a cover document, thats that. I would think if they wanted evidence of an alarm they'd ask when you took out the policy.
  7. you did the syncro on the yellow one didnt you? I suppose at least you've had a trial run at it and this time around you know what to expect :)
  8. ah now thats not true! cant be far off now is it mate?
  9. I was thinking about swapping the corrado for something more baby/family oriented and practical before my hand was kinda forced by the accident, then I got the new job. My other half will still have her car, we may even upgrade it to something a bit more roomy for the family, so its not like i'm without transport. Hard to justify owning a car myself when theres one there that I'm insured on, is paid for and is pretty much availible when ever I need it.
  10. sell the pug, put the C on a limited milage policy and get bus passes! I'm in a simular situation at the moment, although I'm no where near as attached to the golf as I was the corrado. I've done roughly 15miles in 3 weeks since I'm now able to get the bus in to work and back. Forking out what equates to around £80 a month for a car I dont use, or love in the way I could with a 'weekend car,' to sit on the drive and go no-where is a bit much IMO. Giving it 6 months just in case, but I may end up car-less!
  11. video's good though... take two bottles of NOS to the drag strip? not me! i just squat n' go!
  12. I was kind of thinking the same thing! I'm sure thats been posted up before, bit wild on the styling side of things but the engine looks tasty!
  13. golf VR6 = 2.8 corrado vr6 = 2.9 except the in the US where its a 2.8
  14. corrado VR's are 2.9, and I'd say yes, a g60 would be a better option than a 2.0 valver. It depends what you like, lazy effortless power from a VR or a bit more ballsy rawness from a g60. in terms of running costs, as i said they both have pitfalls. the g60 is going to need the charger doing at some point, but otherwise they're fairly solid (they're the 1.8 8v engine basically) where as the VR is a 'bit' more thirsty and parts are slightly more expensive. something else to consider is that (AFAIK) none of the g60's had the facelifted interiour which, IMO, is a bit nicer than the earlier ones and only the very late g60's had the facelifted body. which all VR's have.
  15. ^ what he said 306's all colour coded up and lowered do look nice, and the turbo diesel always got good reviews, but come on, no contest really! ;)
  16. my golfs got a dodgy 2nd, so mine'd be neeeeer *CRUNH* neeeeeeeer, neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer, neeeeeeer, neeeeeeeeer (60mph) well it is only the 8v :(
  17. Theres a buyers guide stickied on one of the forums mate, and, not meaning to shoot you down in your first post, but this has been covered loads of times before in other posts. use the search and you'll find a whole host of opinions. I dont think the g60 is any stronger than the VR, both have their pitfalls and advantages, although charger detonation seems more common than chain failure (the major 'worry' for most people when buying a VR). drive both, find which you like best and buy one! 4k will be plenty for either with prices as they are at the moment. welcome to the forum too!
  18. yup, theres a bit of plastic that goes from the 'stump' you can see on the steering column cowling (just in front of the stalk in the image). it runs up over the top of the steering column, in front of the hazzard warning light, and to another stump on the other side. I'm not sure if its part of the cowling itself, the only reason i know it should be there at all is because that bit had snapped off on my vr and was resting there lose!
  19. the getz vs mini isnt 'too' much of a suprise, mini's arent mini anymore, I'd imagine the getz is made from chipboard and chewing-gum, so much lighter with the same size engine.
  20. nice mate, love the detail of the colour coded shift weight too.
  21. tight fit but looks like a tidy job mate, looking forwards to reading how good it is when you finally stop hooning about in it ;)
