  1. Decided to throw the standard suspension back on after seeing a few pics of corrados on standard, and also the fact that i have got newly refurbed speedlines on too. Im liking it a lot, its staying that way too!!! Standard suspension + new rear beam bushes is brilliant, the guys at VW knew their stuff! Ride is softer than the AP Coilovers, which is a good thing with the state of the roads!! Obviously a little more body roll but i can live with that! Really chuffed with it as i was/am contemplating selling it!!???!!???
  2. Got the car back on the road on Monday! MOT passed with no problems! I did the rear beam bushes, new rear bearings and blasted and painted the beam. MUCH better now, the old bushes were shot! Handles a lot better now. Next on list is front subframe and wishbone refurb. I got all the parts just need time to do it. And then i am hoping to get some paint on it, sort out a few bits im not happy with!
  3. dark corrado today at cottam powerstation??
  4. Made a tool and seems to work a treat! Just waiting for another bush to arrive as i knackered the one up in the photos originally by too much hammer and stretching the rubber! So thought i best change it to be on the safe side. Couple of pics, first one just shotblasting the beam at work, the other pics are of the tool. Used a nut and bored the centre slightly larger than the bush OD to use as a guide on the outward side of the beam. Plate over the end with threaded bar through the middle pulling the other side through. Might have a go at making a more refined tool for next time.
  5. I have the Bentley manual and ive read about pre tensioning the beam etc. I have not loosened the mounting brackets at all, wanted to leave them in place. If the beam is very tight when going back in between the mounting points then are you not effectively pre-tensioning the bushes that way? without moving the brackets? Like you say i think it rarely gets done the waythe Bentley says. Ill update later on in the week with how i got on and the masterpiece of a tool i used!lol!
  6. Cheers, yeah well i have started to make a tool now, made the bit that goes on the end thats all funny shaped, its not pretty but i think it will do the job. Just need the other side now that it will pull against, a big socket or a bit of tube will do the job there, try and find something at work tomorrow or wednesday.
  7. Hi guys, having a bit of trouble with the rear beam bushes. Pushing the new ones in. I do not have the special VW tool for installing them. Any advice on how you have done it before without special tools or tips on how to would be great. Cheers, Sam
  8. removed rear beam, what a barstool it was to get off! ready for refurbished beam to go on this week hopefully
  9. Clonking at lows speeds when changing gear can also be knackered gearbox mount
  10. Nice one, is it complete with wishbones? I will be driving up to Aberdeen next Saturday afternoon, could collect on the way up if you are available. cheers
  11. Second dibs on subframe and wishbones if all still together, James has first dibs on it if wishbones are seperated. Cheers
  12. Rear bushes for the wishbones? not the rear axle? If they are for the wishbones then i will take them if the price is right and mr.ots does not need them. Cheers, Sam
  13. VKBA529 is the SKF kit number for the rear bearings. I would prefer SKF over any other bearings really. I will ask at work if our bearing supplier will do SKF, but i think they use different suppliers for the automotive bearings as opposed to just industrial bearings.
  14. ARZ in Germany do the SKF bearings for 24 euros each side, http://www.arz-tuning.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p622_SKF-OEM-Wheel-Bearing-Kit-Rear-Outer-Corrado-G6016V2-0LVR6.html so plus delivery your looking at £55 i bet. So its as broad as its long really if you can get discount at VW.
  15. yea some pictures would be great, the cowling on mine is totally buggered, as long as the screw holes are all intact and the hole isnt massive then it will probably be ok. I dont think the missus would entertain a corrado interior in the living room. Cheers
  16. Hi Tom, Apologies for not getting in touch about the interior, I went from one job straight to another and have not had much time at home. Circumstances have changed now so i doubt i will be buying it unfortunately, I am trying to save a deposit for a house so need to get all the cash i can together. So sorry about that. I might be able to send some business your way though, i am after the steering wheel cowling/casing if you have it? Cheers, Sam
  17. As title. anybody got the part number for Corrado vr6 front shock absorbers? Upgraded to windows 7 and have lost my ETKA. Cheers, Sam
  18. Are the genuine bearings fro VW SKF bearings?? I know the part number for the SKF kit is VKBA529. Just wondering if it might be cheaper to get them through an SKF bearing dealer direct?
  19. I got one too, no idea what its off part number is 1HO 907 379, no letter on the end like the other 2.
  20. Arrow-precison in the UK is where i got a set of ARP Rod bolts from, actually cheaper than VW genuine parts, and they are reusable. They do sell the other ARP stuff and i heard from somebody that they can near enough match on price compared with the US, by the time you have added on import duty and VAT.
  21. Just found it in the settings. Radio button was on do not save a copy, moved onto save.
  22. When i send a PM, it doesnt show up in my sent items??? So i dont know if it has sent or not, anybody else got this?
  23. When i did mine i bought the bearing shells from VW, you have to use the 24v ones as they superceed the 12v ones, but are readily available to order. I also bought conrod stretch bolts from them, i didnt change the bolts holing the main caps on, i dont think they need to be replaced, no mention of it in the bentley manual.
