The idea of the maserati has gone out of the window, had a drive to Aberdeen and back last week and saw 2 different 3200's on the back of an AA recovery truck!! Not a good sign!!!! I have been looking at 911 carreras, the 996 variety. Would probably need to up my budget to around 15k to get a decent one though, would probably mean selling the corrado??? This looks like a nice example http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1949000.htm Do you guys reckon that these will not depreciate too badly?? They were around 60k when they were new, so you are getting a fair bit of car for the cash!

I saw in a mag recently a guy used a wheel bolt to undo the drain plug. The hex head is 17mm so thats correct and with some flats filed on the thread to allow you to turn it! No need to buy a 17mm allen key! Thats if you have a spare wheel bolt that is!!
-
u could try grind the heads off the bolts and then try and salvage the brass inserts that the screws screw into by using araldite or jb stick weld or similar, to fix them back in place. All depends how bad the crack is and where, If the crack is bad and is close to the pressurised part then its definately a new radiator.

Exact same thing happend to me not so long ago. Fitted brand new rad and the a few days later steam and wet carpets!!! Unfortunately the new rad restores the correct temps and pressure in the system and consequently the next weakest link blows, the matrix! Not as bad a job as people made out in my opinion. Easily done in a day.

I quite enjoy wiring, if it works when im finished that is!lol! I have the bentley manual for the rado so that will have the diagrams for that and the golf one wont be hard to find i wouldnt of thought. Is there a list of all the parts somewhere? it mentions a list on page 1 of this thread but there isnt a list??

Thanks for that, i think i will definately do the conversion then, seems like a worthwhile mod. I read somewhere that the price for the bits should be around the £175-£200 mark? is this still accurate?
-
I am wanting to the obd2 conversion to mine and there is a few questions i cant seem to find the answsers to,hopefully you can help me out: 1) Do i need the keys/transponder for the conversion?? or is it just the ecu? 2)Will my SP 263's still work with it??(havent fitted them yet anyway) 3)why does the later inlet manifold need to be used?? Cheers

I LOVE it, i've been planning to get one for a few years now, but just cant afford the running costs. The 4200 is a stronger car, the 3200 can be a bit fragile, but it doenst have those boomerang lights. Plus its about 8k more. According to the forum, you need about 3k/year to run it. What does that cover? No idea, perhaps just fuel! A few of teh issues are chains (!!!), clutch and front axle bushes. Cant remember anything else, but i'll have a search again and let you know. 3k A YEAR?? if that includes fuel then it aint so bad!lol! i can imagine parts been slightly more expensive and obviosuly there aint that many specialist maserati garages about and the ones that there are will cost a fortune probably. I do really like them though and im sure i would be able to carry out most of the work/maintenance myself and save a load of cash in the process. Whatever i get realistically it isnt going to do a lot of mileage, i am a service engineer so have my own van and the corrado which hardly gets used as it is.

Tempted! very tempted to just through money at the corrado! But the GF would NOT be happy at all! I need to do the turbo VR on the quiet! its a slow process! :) Good suggestions guys, giving me plenty to look at!
-
Yea i think out of them 3 the merc is the only one i could see myself in, Personally i think you need to be at least 50 to buy a jag! I do prefer cubic capacity over electrical wizardry!
-
Yea been under 25 is a real bummer on the insurance matter! Nice suggestions guys, im still totally unsure though! Im not totally against jap 100% but i just dont think they are nice looking cars, imo.
-
not keen on the saab, any thoughts on the masersti 3200??? 370bhp and i just love the back of them! http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2025331.htm

a good delta evo2 is around 20k now!! already looked at them, plus i dont think the gf would be pleased with that. Yeah 911's but theres only one that i want! That BMW is nice but i cant quite decide whether i like it fully or not. What do you think to this?? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2025331.htm

Hi guys, I am thinking about getting a new car, and struggling to find something i like. So what you buy for around the 10k mark? I dont want to get rid of the Corrado, and probably wont. There just isnt any other cars on the road that make me say i want that!! like i did with the corrado. Apart from a 993 Turbo but then im just dreaming!! The options are get something a little more modern and comfortable than the Corrado (please the girlfriend) or something a little bit special and out of the ordinary. I have toyed with the idea of a cerbera but until im 25 i aint got a chance of insuring it at areasonable price! so obviously i want some performance with it, not the usual run of the mill, possibly a classic and not Jap. What do you reckon??

I had an ebay jobbie in mine for a while, and i agree it did make the car feel a little more resposive and smoother through the rev range. BUT it idled a lot worse than it did before. Also it would stall frequently when you put the clutch in, say approaching traffic lights, put the clutch in, revs drop off stutters and stalls. It also gave an error code on vag com about the ecu and the fuel economy dropped too. I have gone back to the standard map and will be getting a proper one done next time.

The needle lies the thickness of the needle under the 2 Bar inrement on the gauge, so just under 2 Bar. And thats when warm, the oil temps dont go over 104 c now thanks to the cooler unless thrashing it.Im using the silkolene 10w -50 stuff so i know it should be a little thicker when hot. As for the lambda i have found some info on Autodata which states its range is 0.970 TO 1.030. i dont think the occasional 0.001 will make too much difference will it? and is only occasional, i know as i did a logh on vag-com. Anyway thanks for the comments guys, very helpful!

I like the bbs but i think 16" is the perfect size for the corrado. Just toying with different wheels at the moment!
-
I can see myself having a drive down in the near future when i get my 263's in!
-
Hi, im after a photoshop or pic of a corrado with ronal aeros on. Cheers
-
Just a few pics of the oil/volt gauges. Was quite a simple install, crimped, soldered and heat shrinked all connections to make it a neat and safe install. My pressure on start up is around 6 Bar initally then drops to about 2 Bar on idle. Does anyone know if these are the correct pressures?? Also my o2 sensor is giving readings of 0.969 to 1.031?? Anyone no if they are ok? its just that it seems to be idling a little rough.

Excessive Oil Useage + Major Engine Refurb Costs
iceviolet replied to oneohtwo's topic in Engine Bay
Ben-B, have you checked out my VR6 Rebuild thread if you do the labour yourself you can do it for quite a bit less. I did a complete rebuild using an AAA block and boring to take the 2.9 pistons. Think theres some prices in there somewhere too. May be useful http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... 11&t=73564 -
MK4 Golf see mintex website : http://outcat-cs3.tecdoc.net/ows/en/EBD ... ramesetJsp Go to mk4 golf, 1.8T, Front discs are 34.2mm High. Shows all dims and info. MDC 979 is mintex part number. Hope that helps

Got some proper oil/volt gauges delivered today!! :D :D :D :D Wanted some ever since i bought the corrado. £100 for them and the sender from surfer.vr6 on here :salute: Bargain id say. I got a wiring connector for them today from the scrappie, same connector as mk3 golf interior light. Going to install them tomorrow hopefully. I mentioned a rough tappet noise i get on start up for approximately 1 second which i reckon is tappets draining or difficulty of oil getting to the head is still there. I am convinced it is head related so i am going to change the entire head as it is the easiest option for me as i jhave a head that was rebuilt a thousand or so miles ago sat in my garage. Bought some HD springs, already have some SP263's just need to buy new tappets for it and i reckon it should cure it! what is the manufacture of oem tappets? is it INA or febi bilstein??

How about the crank sensor?? I may be wrong but i was under the impression that if the crank sensor was unplugged/broken then it wouldnt allow fuel into the cylinders and also wouldnt spark.

iceviolet replied to PhatVR6's topic in Suppliers Forum
Looks like the correct one, Part number is same as one in wiki guide, here - http://wiki.the-corrado.net/vr6_belt_te ... epair.html
