G60! Always wanted a supercharged car. Desired a Lancia Beta Volumex Coupe when I was younger but the fear of rust put me off. Loved the look of the Corrado from day one but I believed in the 'myth' that the charger was fragile. Years later when I could afford one I found this website and learnt the facts. The G60 in a VR6 body ticked all my boxes so I bought one. So glad I did. Love the look of the car, the way it handles and the torque of the engine. Years later I bought a VR6 as well to see why people rave about it. Glad I did. What an engine. What a car. Different to the G60 but great in its own right. If I had to choose between the two it would be the G60 I'd keep. Though if I ever get to drive a charged VR6 that might change my mind.

Is that the official VW quoted 0-60 times for the cars? No. Someone else posted those further down .. I smell something ... ;) There will be a very short period of time when the manual car is changing gear (of course), but it has several advantages that more than offset that: - lower gear ratios giving more torque at the road in any given gear (5 vs 4 cogs .. ) - direct connection between crank and wheel gives the engine something to work against - lower drivetrain losses - the auto is slipping all the time, all that slippage translates directly into lost energy It would have to be a pretty ham-footed driver to make the manual car slower than the auto one. Plus on the VR6 there's only one gear change from 0-60.[/quote:1q9v95ca] dr_mat, I admire your knowledge but to save an arguement I reckon there's only one way to prove which type of gearbox is quicker to 60. Well probably quicker over a 1/4 mile. Has there ever been a drag race between an auto and manual? If not I feel there should be one. That would prove it one way or another. :)

Why bother? A just buy a manual VR6 and enjoy the benefits of a manual box fron day 1.

Hello Steyning! I do love the A283 from the Washington roundabout. A great short stretch of road to drive, even in a slush box car.

I think the 0-60 is about 1-2 seconds slower, so yes, noticeably. Is that the official VW quoted 0-60 times for the cars? As done by a driver that doesn't use the clutch when he changes gear in a manual car? Aren't all official 0-60 times quoted for manual cars, not just VW, quicker than the average driver can get? I doubt if I could get the quoted 0-60 time out of my G60. But the official quoted 0-60 times for an auto gearbox car can be obtained by the average driver as the gearbox is going to change gear automatically at the same time whoever mashes the go fast pedal. So I reckon that in a drag race the auto VR6 will be faster to 60 than a manual car. Cause when you dip the clutch to change gear you lose drive, the auto box car doesn't. Or am I talking out my arse? :)

Mike can you please let me know which 6 numbers you think are going to win the lottery this week :)

Some good stories there  For me it was many years ago. I was on my way into Croydon to work the night shift. Not pushing it to get to work but did notice a car following me along the minor roads. Went across a bridge over the M25 when the blue light came on and the flashing of headlights behind me. I didn't know what I had done wrong but I pulled over.....only to be passed by a MK2 Escort with 4 blokes in it laughing at me! Other time was a couple of years later on the same stretch of road but going the other way. Dead straight bit of road in the countryside in the dark and I come up behind a row of 10+ cars doing 30. The road had a 60 mph limit in those days. After a short while I thought 'sod this' and overtook as the road ahead was clear (I drove a V8 TR7 then). Only when I got near the front of the queue did I realise the car at the front was a Police Rover SD1. I pulled in front of him only to be pulled over straight away. One PC checked my car over whilst the other gave me a bollocking. No matter what I said it was wrong in his eyes so I just shut up and looked at the traffic on the M25 below. Quote "if one of those (9 cars) had stopped or beeped their horns I'd nick you" said the nice officer. They couldn't find anything wrong with my car, gave me a producer and went on their way. Again at 30 mph with me now doing 25.

I had a hire car on Friday just gone and they gave me an old shape Mondeo 2.0 Tdi Titanium on an 07 plate. I too was impressed. It has changed the way I view diesel engined cars. Still sounded like a bag of spanners though.

Buy a car with it already fitted. That way somebody else has done all the hard work and you get the benefits.

"...the VR6 is the only Corrado to go for."
-
No he's not away at the mo as he's busy working on my VR. He doesn't visit this forum very often as you've seen so best get him on his mobile rather than by a PM.

Thanks guys. I think he was away when they came up for sale.

Could somebody let me know if the following wheels will fit my G60. The car has been lowered but retains the standard brakes. Borbet C 7.5 x 16H2 4 x 100 ET35 And will the bolts off the standard G60 BBS wheels fit or will I need longer ones?
-
I believe this chap had BBS RK2 wheels on his old Corrado: http://www.tyc0746.f2s.com/

I would be interested in a plug and play too please.

And I'd like to says 'thanks' to M15 VW and Peanut for parts that were accurately described and for their friendly service.

Fusebox? Weak point on a MK4.

No, not really.(Insert 'fingers crossed' Emoticon). The first three replacement gearboxes were all secondhand ones that he had acquired from Ebay or breakers. Each one seemed to last no more than 18 months before failing. The failure of the last box was the last straw for him and he splashed out £1000 to get the thing rebuilt properly. Since then all seems fine. Only time will tell though... I've got the full service history for the car and reading all the invoices shows that he spent over £1000 buying secondhand boxes and having them fitted. :pale: Should have had it rebuilt properly in the frst place.

After years of happy G60 motoring I've gone and bought a VR6 with an automatic gearbox. Yes I really wanted an auto! I've read all the info on the car on here and I still wanted one. I've either made one big mistake or a very shrewd move. Only time will tell. I'm the 4th owner, been a local car all its life (Dorking and Horsham), is on its 4th gearbox (all the last owner did was replace the geaboxes) and is bog standard. Nothing has been upgraded. Headlights, wipers and ride height are all as it left the factory. I'll get round to sticking some pictures in the members gallery at some point in the future.

I try to look on the positive side when things like this happen. Thankfully no serious injuries to the innocent parties (you and van man) and that your helmet went off into the field instead of staying in the car and ending up smacking you in the head and causing you some serious damage. Cars can be repaired or replaced, flesh and bone are not as resilient. I hope that Mazda man will learn from this. I wish you a speedy recovery, both mentally and physically.

And thanks to Ant logicaltuning for the stuff too. Great goods, kept me informed and packaged it very well. Won't need to buy toilet paper for the kids for a long time to come :)

I'd also like to add my thanks to Asim (MoonlightVR) for the goods. I'm a bit late in leaving it I know..

In the last couple of weeks I've seen: Dark coloured Corrado in the car park of the NatWest building at Aztec West, Bristol. Dark coloured Corrado in the car park of Coulsdon South railway station. Dark coloured Corrado VR6 in the car park of Wookey Hole caves, Somerset. This one had headlamp washers in the bumper. Dark coloured Corrado in the car park next to McDonalds in Chichester. And no it's not mine but yes, it might be somebody following me.

LHD G60 on a G plate in the car park of Balcombe station this afternoon. Possibly the same one that lives in Handcross.

And now there's an Auto Storm for sale on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 60037&rd=1 Although it says Dorking the pictures were taken in Ockley.
