I had Goodyear eagle F1 all round but had to replace one of the back ones in an emergancy with a hangkook thing - but that was quite a while ago and the noise has really only manifested itself recently. Still - might swap the fronts on to the back and see if that makes any kind of noticable difference.

Can't be sure but it was at the guy I have used for years and he is always going on about using genuine parts. Maybe I will give him a call if no one can think of any anything else. ---------- Post added at 09:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:42 AM ---------- Thanks - will give the hand brake thing a try later today after work.

Hi I am wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of where a constant whine type noise might be emanating from. The obvious cause would be the rear wheel bearings but I had them changed less than 3K miles ago. I am pretty sure the whine is coming from the rear – although I also wondered if it is something to do with the aging Milltek SS exhaust system. I have an excellent “insurance add on to my policy that gives me up to £500 for parts and labour in the event of a breakdown so if I would identify what the problem is I could maybe “breakdown” close to my local VW specialist! TIA

I had a similar problem where my 1990 16v started reading crazy low migures 9.9 mpg etc. checked the tube was attached to the back and it seemed to be pretty secure. A few weeks later I had to remove the complete speedo unit which meant removing the tube. When I put it all back together the computer readout is working as normal! - guess maybe a kink in the tube somewhere along the route?

Thanks - had a look arounf the inetrnet for ideas and using spacers or shims at the topof the shock seems to be a meathod of "raising" the ride hight. I have seen everything from washers available at B&Q being used to polyurethane shims - anyone got experience or thoughts?
-
Anyone got any ideas?

I should have said its a - 1990 16v (must change my username!) - just been out to to check and its about 10mm.

Hi Just fitted a set of Bilstein B2 and Eibach springs and the drivers side front is sitting lower (smaller gap between tyre and wing arch) - what could I have done wrong? - defo need to raise it slightly as the tyre slightly fowls the arch liner on full lock. any advice help gratefully received! TIA

Hi I put my 16v in for suspension change. I have Bilstein B2 and eibach springs, new top mounts, bumpstops but mechanic has just called to say that there should be rubber bushes that the spring sits on rather than metal to metal. Can anyone advise? Cheers

Not quite the only one - I have a 1990 Helios Blue 16v as well- 111,000 miles and going strong!

Where abouts can you buy beru leads? - can't seem to find any for my 16v

Hi This is one of the listings on ebay that quote 2yr warranty. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290558279461&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT I have decided to go down the Bilstein B4 shocks and eibach springs. A bit more expensive than the JOM coilovers (£320 all in) but from everything I have heard it would seem to be the better option

The miltek SS system on my 16v is begining to show its age (approx 10 years!) I know they have a lifetime guarantee but I guess that is only for the original owner/purchaser? Anyway its the front box that seems to be crumbling from the inside (rattling sound evident) - Any suggestions for a replacement - or would something like this be ok? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280566320048&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Brilliant - thanks!
-
That sounds good - would defo be interested if they fit - despite my username I am running a 16v at the moment so if the springs are for your VR6 they probably would not fit! Let me know what you think and also condition age etc Cheers

Hi Again Been looking around at prices for bilstein shocks and eibach springs - I came accross PI srings for £107 delivered - anyone got experience/opinions on them?
-
Again some good advice guys - will investigate the Bilstein/Sachs/Eibach route - thanks
-
Thanks guys - good call on the Fk and I agree the 2yr waranty on the JOM units seem to suggest they have confidence in their product!

Hi I know you only get what you pay for but due to extreme economics (I'm skint!) I need to look at replacing my suspension on a very tight budget. Has anyone any experiences of these FK Hi-Tec ( FK Hi-Tec Suspension kit VW Corrado 16V G60 (53i) -35mm ) or the similary priced JOM units available on eBay? Or indeed any other sugestions in that price bracket would be appreciated TIA
-
OK - thanks for that - thought I might have been fobbed off!

For the first time my 1990 16v let me down and refused to start! I had it picked up greenflag and taken to a local garage who diagnosed the problem as being a perished and leaking air hose. Now at £27 it was a cheap enough fix but would that really have stopped the car starting?

Hi For the first time ever I fitted new front discs and pads myself today (Mintex) - can't believe how easy it was and that I have paid for this to be done in the past! OK whats next?
-
ditto - interested in drivers right hand bolster and probably the passenger left one as well!

I'm in Skye at the moment but lived in Edinburgh till last summer. I'm on my fourth Corrado - 2 @ VR6 and the present one which is my second 16v. I passed a Corrado who was sat at temp traffic lights on the A9 last Sunday on his way South as I travelled North - anyone here?
