    Vr coolant problems

Yeah I massaged the top and bottom hoses also the heater matrix hose, strangely the car has always had a coolant smell inside the car but I know the previous owner did the dreaded matrix job, perhaps the pipes are a bit loose?! no leaks inside car though? Also surprised I didn't get any coolant coming out of the small return pipe which runs back to the top of the expansion tank? I left if off untill the thermostat opened and thought I would see a return, all pipes were warm though? I'll keep an eye on it but also just noticed the rear gearbox mount has also gone which has taken the flexi downpipe with it so now I have a blowing downpipe, great. Where's the best to get a downpipe? I remember getting one years ago, I can't weld the flexi can I?

    Vr coolant problems

Anybody? Couldn't find any splits in the matrix hose but the clips were pretty loose on the head end so just put it all back together. Bled the system ran up to temp and fans cut in fine. Took the car for a spirited drive and noticed a little bit of coolant had been released from the overflow on the side of the expansion tank? Temps were good on the dash but i did notice that i had no coolant coming out of the return pipe which leads back to the expansion bottle when bleeding the system. Also top and bottom rads are warm.
  5. Well i got my green vr6 back and took it for a good 100 mile run today and ended up with a few problems... First one is the old brittle coolant pipes and after a 100+ mile an hour long run blast i obviously had a coolant leak, and discovered this The metal insert that goes into the head which the heater matrix coolant pipe clamps over has rusted through halfway round under the flange section, has anybody had this? my mate says either cut it off or just stick two clamps over the pipe? Also water temp was fluctuating between 88 and 92 degrees which was odd also the oil was sitting at 112 degrees which also seems a bit high to me, speed was around 85mph most of the way. My just sold L reg vr6 oil was 94 degrees in steady driving but my 92 vr seems to run a bit hotter. Would this be to down to the stealth 82.5 rebore generating a bit more heat? or is my oil temp sensor reading a bit high? Also checked the plugs in 1 and 6 cylinders and found them to be spot on with greyish deposits, nice to know! Also does anybody know if i have the right header tank on my vr as coolant was pushed out of the side a shown in the picture below today?? Also finding the engine very torquey low down compared to the last later vr i had, and i don't feel the power come on as strong at 4000 rpm either, just a good linear power delivery, would this all be the overbore creating more oomph lower down the rev range?
  6. Yeah it's not the body work as the reason I'm selling, it's just after I have bought everything I want to do to it on top of the bodywork it will end up costing me quite a bit. And realistically I don't have the room for four cars around my house!
  7. I've thought long and hard about having two corrados and unfortunately my old car will be staying purely because of the rebuilt stealth engine and having to pay £££ for storage of the other car so my storm grey vr6 is up for sale. I purchased the car from adam who is a member on here and it was his mums car and she has owned it since 2006. The car drives faultlessly and you can tell its had an easy life, suspension is nice and tight, gearbox is smooth and the engine pulls very well. Mot' until october 2014 and taxed until end of march. I use the car only at weekends. The car has full service history, 155,000 miles. I have the service book and all manuals and even the pre delivery report from new. It has recently in the last 1000 miles had an oil service along with some belts changed also. The oil is still golden on the dipstick. Receipts for £1000's dating way back. It has a laser line category 1 alarm and immobiliser and i have the original certificates for the alarm. Being a late 1993 corrado it has the coil pack vr6 engine with heated cream leather interior. Interior is good condition for its age with a tiny bit of wear on the drivers bolster the size of half of a five pence. It has a golf mk4 leather handbrake lever installed along with dave 16v's centre console fix to cure the rattly centre console. Fans work on all speeds and also all directions. I purchased the car with a broken sunroof which i have replaced and have retained the moonroof glass sunroof panel so now this tilts and slides as it should.Car also has a pioneer cd player with an iPod connection which is very handy. I have labour intensively cured an interior water leak that the car had so no more wet carpets. Engine pulls very hard and hasn't used a drop of oil in the 800 miles i have been driving it. The top end is a little tappy but nothing to bad. Mechanically the car is very good, new front disks and pads, good tyres all round and drives really well. Bodywork wise is where the car needs some attention. I have had the car inspected by a professional body shop and have been insured it is all fixable for around the £500-700 price range this is for new metal being cut out and welded in, i will be supplying a rear arch with car. Areas of rust are, drivers side arch, passenger side arch possibly, front wing and a bit on the rear valance and on top corner of the windscreen, there are a few marks elsewhere but as all cars of this age its far from perfect and will need attention, i have more detailed photos of the rust areas but its best to view the car as a whole and in the flesh i feel. Overall a lovely honest car that feels just that bit special with the rare storm grey colour with the contrasting interior over all the other blue and green ones out there, i would be keeping it except i already have one that has everything you could want to do to corrado already done to it and i haven't got the time or space to change everything over, but i have seriously considered it as i love the storm grey colour. Car is located in upton upon severn, worcestershire, WR8 0ER Any marks on the interior are from dust behind the lense of my iPhone. Priced a £1000 o.v.n.o please call matt on 07866474147
  8. And me:-) it's definatly not all about the power, recently bought the other half a toyota mr2 roadster with only 138bhp, (but only 900kg) but it's one of the best cars I've ever driven
  9. I had a good play about 10 years ago with the first focus rs, it was holding me up in third gear in my first vr6:-)
  10. I've had a good thrash in a v10 modded to 538bhp, it only got really going at about a ton and then it was mental, faster than a lot of Super cars. I'm sure an r32 powered corrado would be awesome, but the corrado is no lightweight at 1240kg. There are plenty of 1250ish kg cars with 250bhp, and it's not all about power to weight as with the corrado, a big capacity engine in any car makes it feel that bit more special, even my 3.0 diesel has an almost v8 noise from inside the car sometimes and from the outside sounds ok for derv
  11. Really? bmw do value line servicing for the e46, parts are very reasonable, it's no more expensive to run an 'old' bmw over a ford focus these days, ok it helped me having a good friend who has worked for bmw for most of his life but the expensive bmw thing is a myth if you ask me! £99 for an oil change? yes please, lower m tech control arms, stupid money from main dealer but aftermarket meyle hd ones are a third of the price and are better, you just have to do some research on the best place to source parts. I agree there are loads of 325, 330's all over the place probably because they are a cracking car, really wish i hadn't sold my e30 318is years ago, they are a fortune to buy now. I'd be looking at a honda s2000, porsche boxster etc over an old tt, its never been a good car to start with whereas the bmw has a handling reputation for a reason, i had an audi s4 once, nice but boring, ttrs looks good and the b7 rs4 is about the only audi i've heard of thats any good after the original quattro, but i'm not biased at all:-D
  12. Gotta disagree on the six cylinder engine cost, don't they have a reputation for being pretty bombproof?!, i have a straight six diesel which has now rolled round to 187,000 miles and its been the most reliable car i've ever owned, and doesn't burn a drop of oil between services either! And i pay £320 a year for the bm and £200 for the vr on a limited mileage policy
  13. I don't give any car i own any stick until the oil is warm, it doesn't do a fat lot cold, water temp may warm up quick but i'd wait until 80 degrees before giving the vr engine any grief. Definatly the cold air combined with a rich mixture when cold that will make it feel quick though.
  14. Link doesn't work for me but I see it's a club sport, a tarted up 330ci but not many around, didn't they have an lsd and a different rear spoiler over the sport?
  15. Erm.... don't know yet!! Well actually my mate has his own garage at a local farm and there is loads of undercover storage space there so i may store either the green or grey one there for the time being. Also might get and do a track day with a friend so the green one is all sorted apart from the 288 brakes i had for it which i sold:-( just wish i had a huge double garage and i could put everything in it!. The grey one is going to be a project, the engine has developed slightly noises tappets so i might do these myself, (it's had an engine flush at some stage in the history) but definatly won't be tackling the bodywork, i'll leave that to the experts. I've noticed the green one does feel more grunty low down than when i had it, might be all the work the lad did to it like fuel filter, lambda etc. Or maybe its the extra cc of the stealth overbore compared to my standard grey one?
  16. Repair, no way £1200, £5-600 more like for a head gasket, i suppose it's who you know though and i could see someone getting ripped off if they didn't know their mechanic.
  17. Uh oh... just bought my old green corrado back, so now i have both!! couldn't bear to let someone else have it and it's still registered in my name, bonus!:-D
  18. Still got the shell? I could do with a rear drivers side arch cut if possible?
  19. Still looking for a driver side rear arch:-D
  20. Definatly agree on the running costs regarding the m3, so tempting though and i'm even considering one myself for that 8500rpm rev limit. A friend has recently sold his V10 m5 after replacing the throttle butterflies, i drive ecu, four new tyres which were well over a grand, he hated that he could not fix it himself. Ten grand would be proper m3 money i reckon so a nice 330ci in atlas grey with heated seats and all the toys would be very nice, and the straight six engines go on forever. I think the sports look nearly as mean as the m3 anyhow.
  21. Gotta be the e46 for me, i can't see the tt coming close as a drivers car. The 330i's straight six sounds sweet also. I bought my 330d sport four years ago now and it's been faultless, i wanted a saloon, manual and the right colour/interior combo.I have split folding rear seat in mine and a sunroof with aircon. If you don't need the economy then then 330ci will be great fun, surprisingly really good steering feel as well as from 2002 they updated the steering racks. From 2003 they face lifted the car and brought in the 6 speed box and called them m-sports instead of just sports, exactly same spec just different name, there where engine changes to the diesels but not sure on the petrol model. Rear wheel drive is also a big bonus and the traction control on the e46 is a clever bit of kit, its pretty impossible to lose then car with it all turned on but you can still have a bit of fun, it also has yaw control if the car starts sliding. With your budget you could get a 2005 model but also e46 m3's are now down to £5000, if it was me i would be stretching a little further and buying an m3 for 6k, plenty out there with reasonable mileage. Heres mine, mapped to 245bhp 370lbft tan interior with carbon trim
