Steering rack issues solutions and swaps....
24V Renshaw replied to 24V Renshaw's topic in Drivetrain
To put it very simply, not a lot. Basically you have a "rack" Length of metal bar with teeth cut in it and a piston part way a long. A "pinion" gear which drives said rack and a clever little torque valve which when it "twists" because a big enough load is experienced (slow speed steering) opens up and allows hydraulic fluid under pressure to assist the rack by pushing the piston. The only difference I can find so far is that some have the 22 point spline on the input shaft and others have more, but you can get the corresponding UJ to match them up anyway. Other than that they are the same. The Track-rods screw straight into both racks no probs. Jay -

Well in the interests of research I have just bought a brand new OE SEAT Ibiza rack off Ebay for £75. Looks indentical to the Rado one, so we shall see when it arrives..... Will keep you all posted. :) Jay -
As I understand it, the pedal will always stay in the same position as it hits the stop and the brake light switch. Jay

Have you tried adjusting the preload on the servo/pedal connection? Jay

Cheers Ian, good to see you again last night, hope we didn't confuse you too much! ;) Sounds like you are progressing well though mate, keep the piccies coming! I actually prefer the way the earlier spec bumpers fit, they don't stick out as much at the side. Jay -
Excellent news mate, keep us posted Jay

Cheers. I think that is my favourite actual pic too Nick. Paul - I have been there and done splits and can't live with them day in day out. Even my Vette rims have damage from the winter months, but they are cheapish to get refurbed in the summer. I keep thinking about other wheels, but I actually love the vette rims as you never see any others :) Jay -
If you don't have the later loom, the earlier plugs actually fit straight in apart from one pin which you can just put a spade terminal on. Not ideal but you can do it. I did before i got MK4 ones. jay

Kev - the only thing with the white walls is it elimates any "shine" on the paint, but does show the actual lines of the car well. C.Will - Cheers. Why dream about it, do it! :) Jay -

Well Jim, whenever you want to get back into Corrado ownership give me a bell :) Jay -
Get different wheels. :) Jay
-
Lower it first. Cars look ar5e on bigger wheels if they are not lowered, but lowered cars on standard wheels look cool. Also bigger wheels can exaggerate handling characteristics so sort the suspension first. Jay

lol. I have been asked so many times about that. Basically I use the boot as a boot, for lugging shopping, diy stuff, car bits, luggage etc around and was not expecting to have to open the boot for the photoshoot. I had lost a couple of the clips for it, so it was lying in the boot and I just didn't realise it was not in. To be honest I am happy if that is the only thing wrong :) Jay -

Cheers all. To answer the question. Yes the wheels are lacquered and are used every day. They have suffered a little over the winter, mainly because of poor wheel fitters marking the rim and the salt getting in under the lacquer, but to be honest its just me being picky. I will probably get them refinished in the summer for Worthersee. :) Jay -

I thought as I have not been doing much recently on my car. Just enjoying driving it :) I would post up some pics from the photoshoot now that the issue of PVW has been replaced by a couple of months now. Hope you like them. -

I lowered the front mount by about 1/2", plus its basically solid as otherwise it will "buck" and hit the bonnet. Bear in mind the later type cover gives you much less clearance from the bonnet, that is why I removed that rib from the underside of the bonnet. The rears on mine are just OE new ones. Jay -

What model ibiza is it from? Is that not just a G60/16v Rack? Jay -
Doh! Hope nothing else is damaged.... Usually it will bubble over on the header tank. What did it blow out exactly? Jay

Good news Sam, sounds like you will be up and running v.soon. When its the first ever run of a new engine were you not watching the temps like a hawk, or were you too excited.....?? jay

Interesting to see the two together. To be honest the angle of the shaft looks the same on both, its just the seal thats at a different angle. How much taller is the MK4 rack? jay
