Steering rack issues solutions and swaps....
24V Renshaw replied to 24V Renshaw's topic in Drivetrain
Result. Thats exactly the part number of the brand new one I bought for £75 :) :) :) So its the later type spline then. Which means it will fit straight into mine :) Cool http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1 Jay -

Oh and yes I have the stainless sleeves in there. They came with the Powerflex bushes. jay -

I have the poly rack bush too. Could be that, but why a clonk/pop noise rather than a creak? jay -

Yes. Not with a brand new one but with a stripped, blasted and powder coated VR6 one. So as good as new. Jay -

But as I have said many a time now everything in mine is brand new and I mean everything. New Balljoints, new CV joints, New Track rods, New rack (dodgy but rebuilt), new bearings, new wishbone bushes (poly) new steering rack bush (poly), everything. So unless the Corrado clunk/popped from new its something somewhere thats not right. I have the brand new OE SEAT rack on its way so I will see what difference that makes, but I have absolultely nothing else to replace. Jay -
Well I will have a drive when you are done as I can compare 24v V6 with a diff against it. :) Bring on the 24v Track day shoot out :) (although I need a bit more power first) Jay

Dr.Mat do you have fully poly bushes in the front suspension? Kev I know you do. I do and we have this same "clunk/pop". Just wondering if its something to do with the wishbone rear poly bushes, dislocating/re-locating? jay -

Saying that my mate has a G60 rack in his Rado with a V5 engine and that works fine. Jay -

AFAIK yes. The only possible issue is the pump not matching the rack, i.e VR6 pump not working right with a g60/16v rack and vica versa, but I can't see why there would be any difference, otherwise its the same. Jay -

I'm guessing it was a short list   They always seem to be a page long at whatever stage in a project you are, they just get more and more detailed :) Rather than "fit engine" its now "fit new door latch pins" :) Jay -
Standard FWD - No. Quaife/Peloquin FWD - Yes Haldex - Yes. Syncro - No. :) Jay

Infact having just had a look, I see my car is on their website now :)

I use http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk Andrew there is a VW nut and a top bloke. Tell him I sent you :) They have always done a great job on all the wheels I have had over the years. They are relatively cheap too. They did my Corvette wheels, which I will be getting done again soon after a winter of abuse and neglect by me :( Jay

Yeah strap it down as much as you can both sides with some massive tie wraps or rope. It will stop it "flapping" about but will allow it to shift a bit and move with the suspension. Main thing is it will keep it clear of the CV joint. jay

The ARB drop link has sheared off. If you can't get hold of a new one tomorrow (GSF do them for about £12 I think) Best thing you can do is un-do the other side too. Then just strap the ARB down as best you can both sides. It will stop it pressing against the CV boot and will be fine. Jay

how low can i go? (before i scrape my front spoiler off!)
24V Renshaw replied to wcrado's topic in Exterior
I have had all of them 90mm, 50mm and MK2 GTI chin. The nicest one to drive with daily was the 50mm, it never touched anywhere, the worst is the 90mm I have on now, I split it at the weekend only a tiny bit but its split. The MK2 chin is deeper than both, but the profile of it means it slopes back rather than sticking out forward and its clears a lot more than the 90mm.. If you can be bothered to spend ages shaping, heating, cutting and screwing the MK2 one do it, but its a bu99er to get it to fit right. I am going to go to a 50mm chin purely as I can't live with the 90mm day in day out any more and I actually think the 50mm one looks more understated than the 90mm on a low car. Jay -
Oh and you can light the tyres up in any car if you drop the clutch with enough revs. You just have to be able to drive :) Jay
-
You can apparently on Haldex, people have managed to reprogramme it to 50/50, but not on the Syncro system. If I am honest I think installing the Haldex system is worth doing if you are going for big power (over 300BHP) I would never bother with the Syncro system myself but I can kind of see why people do. Jay
-
You can do it, but you would need to either fit an entire late spec dash, or fabricate a bracket to hold the heater controls properly. Otherwise it all just drops in. Jay

VW Corrado - "one of, if not the best handling front wheel drive cars ever produced". Quattro System - "one of if not the best 4WD system ever produced" Syncro system - erm, well its OK if you like 80/20 bias :) Flame jacket on :) Jay

Asim, good to chat to you earlier mate and I know you will always be about. :) Your rado will always be one of the best along with your MK1 and I look forward to telling you "you could have cleaned it" when your MK1 is back on the road. :) Dom - you still about then :) VR is looking nice mate! :) Jay -

Ran a vag-com scan to check my enigine is still running 100% and got 0 faults :) Oh and I wrote a list of "things to do" for Ultimate Dubs. Jay -
Yep seen this one before, sweet car. Looks like you are taking it to the next level now. More piccies please :) Jay

Yep inspired me to get the Porker Turbo splits. Definately will always be the best ever Corrado for me. Whatever people do to theirs, this is the first to do it all so perfectly. Jay

2.8L but probably something like 2783 or something. Jay
