  1. I see where you are coming from but everything in my car is absolutely brand new apart from the steering rack which was "rebuilt". The column had absolutely no play in it what so ever, so I can't see how it could be that. The thing with mine is both times its "gone weird" it has killed the pump too after a while as its been having to work so hard overcoming the "sticking" in the rack. I think mine might be a bite more exaggerated than other people are describing but mine is "definatley" the rack and I "will" sort out the problem once and for all! Jay
  2. Hence why I am going to rebuild it myself or figure out a way of fitting a MK4 one! :) Jay
  3. I have heard conflicting reports about the MK4 rack. I thought it was too long and too tall, but then I have heard people say it might work... I need to get hold of one to see I guess. I will get a MK4 rack when I get this spare VR rack and see how they compare... Jay
  4. New ones are very pricey from memory and I think most are now recon anyway. Kevhaywire will tell you how many "new" and "re-con" racks he has gone through trying to sort the problems with them. I will keep you all posted with progress. Jay
  5. I have a strange clicking/sticking in my rack at the moment, which was supposed to be a rebuilt unit. So I have second hand one coming in the post (cheers Striderwilson) which had the same problem... I am going to strip it down and investigate so will post piccies up of anything I find. I have potentially sourced a rebuild kit so if the rack is salvageable I will obviously rebuild it and post piccies of that process too. One option is this. The only difference I can remember between the G60/16v and VR rack is the no of splines on the input shaft So is there any reason that if the UJ to the column was swapped for a G60/16v one too a G60/16v rack could not be used in a VR?? Jay
  6. I know a lot of people are having problems with their steering at the moment, either "clunking" sticking or just being weird. So I thought I would start a thread dedicated to the problem and possible solutions specifically focused on the steering racks which seem to be a problem for a lot of people me and Kev Haywire included. Jay
  7. LOL. OK I will take the "longest on the road" award then :) Jay
  8. Yeah it was all a dream Paul :) or a nightmare :) Don't worry everyone knows you fitted a 24v first. Jay
  9. Kev. Mine has used literally NO oil since I put it in 8 months ago!!! I keep checking it and its always in exactly the same point. It has an oil level sensor anyway which would tell me if it was low, but it never is! I am going to give it a change soon so will be able to see how good the oil condition is. Jay
  10. Definately. Thats why our threads are both 70 pages long! But there is always loads done that people don't see! jay
  11. I can't believe you have chromed the ball joints on the tie rods, they are inside black rubber boots! or are you getting clear ones made :) Nutter!! Jay
  12. well it needs something in it to keep it going... :) Jay
  13. There is a big gap round the gearbox which provides plenty of air. Its not like the 12v on the other side where its trapped. Jay
  14. He's been out in mine ;) but yeah get it on the road! :)
  15. The main difference between mine and Stans, is that I have used everything possible from a MK4, so it has MK4 Wiring, MK4 brake stuff, MK4 aircon, MK4 water pipes, MK4 bottles, MK4 firewall etc..
  16. I don't have a pic of the downpipe on its own i'm afriad, but here are a load of build pics for you.
  17. I am !! Dutch Yeah and me too!! 8) Excellent work mate. I think I might pour some sand in my intake and speed along my 12V's demise :-) Kev - Its a Corrado part, it will happen fine on its own :) Jay
  18. So it must all be wonky then as its supposed to poke through a bit. the clock is ticking Ian....or has it become March 07 now :) Jay
  19. The drain just pokes out the firewall with a little flap valve thing on it. no motor. How big is the motor with tubing? That could be washer jet motor, headlight washer motor? Auxilary air valve? Jay
  20. Dutch - Did it all myself, with a bit of help from my mate on the welding front. I have never paid a single £ towards labour, for any work to be done on it. :) Jay
  21. Coxy, Looking good mate, glad to see you are getting a bit of time on it. So you are still going 4WD then? Jay
