Biggerbigben - Golf sold.. another new project!

What you didn't like the blue and purple contrast :) I hated it having a blue engine bay, but then I knew in the back of my mind what was coming. Jay -
nice line that, agreed (but I still want to be able to say I've got over 400bhp one day!) Totally agree. Peak figures mean nothing. You can have peak Torque and BHP over a very very small range, spread that over a bigger range with a lower peak and the latter will be a much quicker car. Jay

Quite simply volume. Pounds per Square Inch says it all really. Putting the same amount of air into a bigger space will give less PSI as there are more SI's. 2.8L against 1.8L of volume. Thats the same reason little 1.3 Renault 5 Turbos run 24PSI+ as its dead easy to do on such a small volume. Jay

I know what you are saying Paul and I know what you mean about splits etc.. but I haven't built my car to wow people at shows, I built it to drive very well and be a nice car to be in. I like the Vette rims as I think they suit the car and also because they are practical. It will definately be going on track, possibly with some more sensible wheels/tyres but I want to get it on track this year. Jay -
Sam - Stick with it mate. Everyone is waiting to see this car finished and think of the blasts you can have once its running right :) Jay

Looking good dude. Hope you are going to re-do your brake pipes :) Jay -
Cheers Jade I would be very interested to know. Furkz, possibly, but unlikely :) Jay

Well the qualifying was fairly entertaining. If a little complex Jay

Can you buy the lenses for the Inpro lights? Jay

I think you could easily get away with a 50mm front spoiler on it and it still look sweet. Jay

All by hand mate, I don't like electric polishers. I used a bit of a mixture really. Meguairs the day before the show, then on the day I used some new stuff I tried called Poorboys. Very impressed with the carnubara wax they do and its relatively cheap too. Jay -
That is how they come Andy, unless you get a blue one. I have colour coded mine to the interior with the cream. Jay

I'm here :) Two words. Big job. As always with something like this its down to how well you want to do it and how much you want working. To be honest there ia almost an endless list of things that need doing. A few examples of which are. Moving the handbrake 1" to the left Modifying and rebuilding the entire underside of the dash and ducting. Wiring (ha ha ha) reconstructing and retrimming the door cards constructing the brackets for all the dash and centre tunnel fitting the entire TT climate control heater matrix (no manual controls) There is plenty more which I can't even begin to remember. Like everything its obviously do-able, but there were a couple of occasions where I thought it would not even work. Jay

Me too. :) jay

Well I have experienced both. Having had both steel and ally custom adaptors made for my crazy wheel choices. I designed and FEA'd both types and can honestly say the Ally ones are the way to go. Steel adaptors are damn heavy (about the same as a brake disc) and it does add signifcant un-sprung weight to the car. As long as the ally adaptors are helicoiled they will be fine. Mine were anodised, then the threads were alochromed, then the stainless helicoils were fitted. This prevents corrosion between the ally and the stianless. At the end of the day if the adaptors are machined from a billet of decent grade ally they will be a shed load stronger than the cr@ppy cast ally wheel. Jay

Conversions, Rebuilds, Modifications anything u need doing?

OK I will have a think over the next couple of days and price it all up. When you say "sunroof fix" do you have the parts but want them fitting or just have a broken sunroof and want it fixing? They are two different things... jay -
Yep he is waiting for them to finish it. They had a lot more fabrication work to do that they expected to make the kit work on RHD. He should be picking it up soon ish though. Jay

Build your car how you want it. If you think the lights look dated, change them. If you don't like the wheels change them. Whatever you do though just make sure you do whatever you do as well as you can manage/afford. It will mean you end up with a lot less hassle later on. I think VW did a superb job with the Corrado back in the 80's. Its now 2006, nuff said. Jay

I remember hearing somewhere the MK1 got written off?? Not sure though. Damn shame if it did. I loved that car! Jay

Look really sweet mate, never seen any on a black car and they really suit it. Class 8). Porsche Turbo Splits is a commonly used name. Jay
