  1. Mine is on -1 and the inside edge is going now. Worth it though for the extra grip on cornering, especially now the diff is in :) Jay
  2. My old man has his own tracking kit which has always been superb. Its just long straight bars which you rest (on little nylon ended mounts) against the wheels. One bar has a mirror at the end, one has a pin point light. The light shines, hits the mirror reflects back and you can see where it comes back to. With a bit of simple trig maths you can work out the angle of toe in/out. Trouble is that is now 150miles away from me so not good for after working on the car! Camber guages can be bought from Demon Tweeks etc.. but are difficult to use accurately as they assume the car is on a perfectly level ground. I will have to go to a garage to get my tracking done when I replace the rack etc.. soon and will probably go to Awesome GTi as I assume they will have an alignment system for lowered cars, which most places don't! Jay
  3. Well I have a spare steering rack now (thanks Striderwilson) which had the "clunking" problem before it was removed. I will be stripping it down soon. Will post pics on here as I do it especially if I find anything interesting! Jay
  4. You should only need to "polish" once every few months if at all. You should "wax" as often as possible. Polish is actually an abrasive which removes the wax and any road dirt. Wax is what protects the paint. Jay
  5. mmmm. All I could do would be hook it up to VAG-COM and to be honest I don't think I would be able to get that info of the older type OBD. I would say your best bet is Awesome GTi, but I have no idea what they would charge. Jay
  6. What do you want doing? I might be able to help, not a mechanic as such (just me at home) but I have done a bit of work on Corrados in my time (ref my car! ) :) http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... highlight= Jay
  7. The best way to look after alloys is the same way you look after paint. People wax and wax and wax bodywork but never wheels. At the end of the day its just paint and lacquer and should be treated in exactly the same way. When you wash you car, wash your wheels, when you wax and polish your car, wax and polish your wheels. Easy :) Jay
  8. I am currently right in the middle of steering rack investigations and can definatively say that the lock of some racks is slightly different. However this is actually determined mainly by the track rods and not the rack. The later cars with larger tyres (205's) came with inner track rod ends which had a "limited" travel by having a bigger diameter which didn't travel into the end of the rack and as such limited the lock. I have this in writing from a VW tech manual. Hope that makes sense. jay
  9. Surely you can never pay too much for the car you really want.... only enough! Jay
  10. My GF's sisters boyfriend is planning on going off a skijump on a Mountain Bike! He has already done 120MPH on one down a glacier so he is serious! When we were watching topgear though we realised its not actually that high its just the slope that creates the "drop" Jay
  11. best line of the show "so, while hammond is off filling Paul o'gradys slot". James May trying to paint a line on the slope had me in stiches too. Jay
  12. You can leave that last post in though so it makes sense when there are big bits missing :)
  13. I know one of the Mods offered to "clean up" my thread the other month but I can't remember who it was. If you would be so kind as to clear it out a bit I would appreciate it as at 70 pages its getting a bit long!! Cheers Jay
  14. Depends on how much you have done before. Basically you need a few special tools but it saves you a hell of a lot of money doing it yourself. Everyone thought I was mad doing it myself, but nothing in a car is "that" complicated. It still works fine a few months on, so I obviously did it right :) Jay
  15. I did when I fitted it. :)
  16. One of the best mods you can do. My TBD has transformed the levels of grip my car has. It pulls out of bends like its on slicks! Jay
  17. I think its a mixture of the people who really know what it is and the people who have no idea. Thats why I like having no badges on mine at all. :) Jay
  18. Yep. The buttons and relays are definately from a Diavia Aircon system, but everything else is missing.... Jay
  19. Not much sign of aircon there... Jay
  20. A mate from back in the day had his MK1 16v 2L done by them and it was superb. It was running standard cams and got 205BHP purely from head work a bit of injector fiddling and a superchip icon. Damn impressive and it was lovely power delivery on standard cams. Jay
  21. You can still break in in 10 seconds flat with the Audi handles.... Just a different way. Jay
  22. There should be a condensor infront of the rad. There will be a compressor down the front of the engine at the bottom. There should be a drier (black 3" cylinder thingy) usually over to the passenger side of the engine bay. There will also be two big black pipes going into the firewall down under the ABS unit. Jay
  23. SERIOUS CAR! Will be interesting to see it all develop. Keep the posts coming. :) 8) Jay
