What won't go back together? I took the dash out for mine. Took a while + you have to label everything, but it makes it easy when you have to reassemble.

Really wouldn't recommend a low temp stat. The car will be running the cold start map pretty much constantly and therefore running rich and using too much fuel.

I killed one of my old 16v Corrados in the jetwash. Only a tiny bit got behind the headlamp, but it wouldn't run at all. Had to unplug a sensor on the side of the metering head (only way it wouldn;t conk out) and then drive it for a couple of hours. It was horrible to drive, but the engine heat dried everything out, and it recovered perfectly.

Have you checked the airbox? Could well have sucked some water in. Get the airbox off and totally dried out and leave the MAF in an airing cupboard for a couple of hours. Also check the plugs/leads for water- give all the electrics a good dose of WD40. Other than that, it could be a coincidental airleak, MAF failure, plugs/leads, ISV etc etc.

G60s are no more unreliable than any other car of that age, so long as the charger is looked after. The 8v lump is actually very reliable. Welcome by the way! :)

Certainly sounds like the matrix. Does it smell of coolant? They are a stupid amount of money from VW (£170-ish?), but you can get a Valeo on from GSF for under £40 (you can get 10% discount if you're a CCGB member). Valeo make the VW ones by the way, and last time I changed one I had them side-by-side and they were identical.
