I guess it probably is the same... Could the low temp stat cause any probs? I know it will be on the cold start map most of the time, as it rarely gets over 70C. This will obviously reduce fuel consumption slightly, but could it have any other negative effects? Would it be worth taking the car through basic settings?

Jon, only just seen this thread- been a little busy! Looks like a cracking course- I'd love to go back and study something like this! 8)

The inlet cam is a straight swap and should result in 10-15bhp :) Get the rocker cover gasket done at the same time.
-
Nah, it's the older 6-pin (expensive :( ) one.
-
Grrrr! Got a feeling it's prob the MAF too, but it ran the same on the working one :? Really frustrating.

For as long as I can remember, my VR hasn't been quite right :? When dipping the clutch in 1st gear, there is sometimes a noticeable vibration, and the revs drop quickly. It has only ever stalled once. It's not terrible, just a little annoying! I also get what may be 'driveline shunt', when changing gear quickly, but not sure if it's related. I'll be changing the brake fluid (bleeding system?clutch etc) which hasn't been done for 5 years in case that's causing the shunting. I keep getting the following fault code: 00533 idle air control reg adapt range below minimal level I've changed the dashpot, which was no longer damping properly, but no change. CrazyDave also readjusted my throttle correctly and we drove it with VAGCOM connected- everything seemed to be OK, apart from the fault code. I have checked all the intake/ISV pipework for leaks and also used a working alternative ISV and MAF, but no different. I'm currently running the standard airbox instead of the BMC. Initially it felt better, but after driving more, it's just the same (just a lot quieter!). Car is standard apart from decat, BMC CDA & low temp stat. Any ideas, guys? :?

Really liking those! Looks 8) Where did you get the bumper resprayed? -
Andy, new clutch time? :( Think I need to align my gears too, as 1st, 2nd and reverse are occasionally sticky :? Took off all the intake/rocker breather/ISV pipework today + BMC CDA, to inspect for airleaks, as the car still vibrates and drops revs sometimes in 1st gear, and has given me the following fault '00533- idle air control reg adapt range below minimal level'. Gave everything a good clean and refitted with another ISV setup + standard airbox/K&N panel filter while I give the BMC a good clean and re-oil. Took it for a quick spin- how quiet?! Car felt a lot smoother with no probs... Will leave the standard kit on for a few days to see how it goes. I'm sure I'll start missing the roar though...

Yeh, mine is coilpack + old-style hotwire MAF.
-
You are wrong!
-
sounds about right. I've had two K-reg VR6s and the 1992 one had a coilpack, but the 1993 one (my current one) has a coilpack.

Stop leading Michael astray

All sounds excellent! How about a VR6 DOHC engine cover?

If you spend most of your time below 4000 rpm, there's no point in fitting a 50mm manifold. Defo worth fitting a KR cam though. Fits straight in with no mods and waaaaay cheaper than buying some aftermarket ones. Should see 10-15bhp. If you want even more power, you can swap your inlet can for a 9A/KR (they are the same) exhaust cam, although it will require a small modification. Stealth definately used to do this mod quite cheaply, so you could send it off to them- not sure if they still do though. Always worth changing your rocker cover gasket while you're in there too ;)

Looking nice and clean under there! 8)

I do like these 8) Any pics of a green/black C. Reckon it might work pretty well. Hmmm...

 They look bright! Reckon they will look 8)

Where are these calipers, then?! Me wanna see! :)

Sorry guv, killed me one of those this evening. MURDERER!!!
-
Shouldn't really take more than an hour. Get a new rocker cover gasket done at the same time.
-
Think it's just one of those things you won't know until you try. Some really good figures there- I can understand you not wanting to upset it. Think I'd go for it though, if it was me.

Check that the sponge from the black ISV damper pot hasn't been sucked into the ISV pipework. This happened on mine, with very similar syptoms to yours.
-
If they're gonna go down this route, they surely need to do something about 4X4s, which are high polluting, and totally unneccessary in towns and cities.

Longlife exhausts in Berkeley will build you one, fully fitted for £160. It's a bit more if you choose a more extravegant tailpipe. They replaced the front silencer on my VR for a straight through pipe- was very impressed with them. I'll defo go there for exhausts in the future. Not far from you, either ;)
