Boost Monkey's old Golf... (56k, go make some tea)
CazzaVR replied to boost monkey's topic in Members Gallery
Oh man... -
Lovely wheels, Dom 8) Always liked MOs. Really suit the C. Loved the ATS ones too though- very similar to Borbet Cs. Wish you'd put them up for sale a month ago... :(

Like that a lot 8) When are you taking it for a remap then?

Nice wheels- can't go wrong with BBS multispokes 8)

Boost Monkey's old Golf... (56k, go make some tea)

Nice one, Jon! :) Now, that really is crazy paving! What a mess  As I said the other day, that's very impressive work all on your ownsome. Awaits pics of new Rado... -
You're better off getting the Lupo or TT arms as well, as they provide the extra pressure on the windscreen, which is the main problem with the originals.
-
Any pics of this , Kev? My 1st, 2nd and reverse are a little sticky occasionally- I'm pretty sure they just need a slight 'tweek' to smooth them out.
-
Sounds like a plan, Monkey Boy!

Don't really know where this should go, but thought they deserved a mention. The windscreen seal came away at the top a few days ago (I'm guessing it was fitted badly + bad weather etc caused it), and has got steadily worse. Was passing RAC Windscreens, Bradley Stoke today, so thought I'd pop in and see what they could do. The garage was full of cars, but they immediately got me in. They took the seal off, gave the metal etc a really good clean, removing the old bonding agent, mud etc. They then reseated and bonded the rubber seal. All in all, took getting on for an hour. The guy was a top bloke- chatted about the car etc, and to top it all off, they didn't charge me. :D Exactly the sort of service you SHOULD get, but rarely seems to happen. Thanks RAC!

Exhaust rattle *UPDATED* Anyone heard of Bastuck?
CazzaVR replied to MonkeyVR6's topic in Engine Bay
It could well just be the cat heat shield. Took mine off (when it had the cat ;)), and it had completely corroded away at a couple of the bolts, causing a horrid rattle. Was completely cured afterwards. Pretty easy, self-explanatory job too- you just undo the bolts, or snip through the metal if the bolts have had it (as one of mine had). -
Unfortunately the flood effects have worn off. Car is a little rough as it used to be :( Maybe it was just a coincidence...

Nice mota! Good work, Andy- such a lot of car for the money 8)
-
Jon, can't see you getting too many takers, somehow!
-
Those emissions are really high! Mine passed it's MOT, in case you're interested

Was just giving the car a well-needed clean, and a guy walked up and asked if it was really a K-plate, because it looked so good for it's age 8) He went on to say, he'd forgotten the spec, but they had a superb engine didn't they? 8) And there was me, thinking how rubbish it was looking!

Jim's Corrado - ciao to the Fiat! Hello to.. (P64)
CazzaVR replied to Jim's topic in Members Gallery
Nice one, Jim. Let's hope this sorts out the probs once and for all! Never heard of those, but Koni are quality 8) What drop do they give? -
Jim, yeh was very worrying- it was pretty close to getting in the airbox. Plenty of steam was coming out of the bonnet :? What really annoyed me was the 4X4 drivers  There was a broken down car in front of me when I got halfway through- they should have stopped on their side as they hadn't even got to the water yet. But no, they just came charging through, washing tidal waves over the C as they went :( Vaughan- amazing what a little mishap can do, eh? Still no idea how it cured my stalling. I was beginning to think it was the lambda causing probs- maybe the water killed it completely? But then surely it should run even worse? Dunno, but it's good!
-
Clark, how was the MOT?
-
Did they fit a new gasket when they did the work for you? If so, they should defo replace it foc. They should have replaced it if they did a rebuild.

Right, my VR generally runs well, but has occasional rough idle and often feels like it will stall at junctions etc, with low gear jekiness and sharp drops in the revs when approaching junctions, roundabouts etc. Drove through a very deep flood last night (thought at one stage I was done for :? ). The water was halfway up the car, could hear it swirling around me. A couple of twats in 4X4s drove past in the opposite direction quite quickly, causing waves to wash over the bonnet  No regard for other road users at all  Anyway, managed to get though OK. Brakes felt dodgy for a bit, but the car was running fine. Drove it for an hour today and also got it MOTd (which is passed with flying colours 8) ). The car has never run better! The stalling idle probs have completely vanished- absolutely no hint of the sudden drop in revs when coming up to junctions, or jerky 1st and 2nd gear changes. The idle is nice and smooth. I can't think of any explanation for this, but the difference is marked. So, if you've got the traditional VR stalling issues, go and half submerge your car under water!

The VR did me proud this morning- flew through it's MOT, with just a couple of minor advisories 8)
-
Mine looked a bit grey and had a slightly rough feel. They take time to wear in. It's already lost most of it's roughness and is getting darker in colour.
-
Got one a couple of months ago through Audi (much closer than my nearest VW). It was around £22.
-
That's great news, and a relief to get it sorted. Nice one! :)
