Just a quick update- Manifold was cracked- thankfully my garage had a nearly-new spare. Removed the intensely irritating cat heatshield, CrazyDave very kindly changed all the engine mounts for me, replaced gearknob, changed gearbox oil for Castrol SMX-S fully synth, painted front calipers black (not enough time to do the rears :( ) + a few other minor things :) Awaiting the arrival of a decat pipe in the post 8)

Lol- you know you won't be able to help yourself!
-
Just keep them standard- it's surprising just how much they still shine through when tinted (in the correct colour too).
-
Had that kit on my last valver- bought it from Awesome too, as it was the cheapest I could find. The springs are Koni springs. They're pretty good.

Think you've definately made the right decision, Michael! :) Really pleased. Looking forward to seeing what happens with the MK2 8)

Just gave the C a good clean and wax. Next door's boyfriend turned up, shaking his head. 'That really is some mota, mate. Amazing condition- don't see many around, do you?' etc etc. Asked a few questions about it too :)

Michael, really think you'd regret it. Been there several times (7!) myself, sold the C, then regretted it- sometimes straight away, sometimes after several months. Your car is an absolute beauty, you've made it pretty much perfect, but there's always scope to do more if you're getting a little bored. I think a lot of people (sometimes unnecessarily) feel the need to mod their car continuously, without actually stopping to enjoy it for what it is. Go and have a long look at it, go and redline it in 2nd and 3rd, take it for a 'spirited' drive through some country lanes. Would you enjoy those sort of things so much in a Golf?

Changed the gearbox oil for Castrol SMX-S fully synth. The gear change was OK before, but the new oil has really transformed it. Really silky smooth change now.

Never buying that poor excuse for a car mag again then! Bloody amateurs!

Just buy a new insert from VT. Tom, I've defo seen MK2 VR6 VT mounts listed before. Surprised there is enough demand to put them into production :?
-
Saw one of these broken down on the M4 the other day... :?

Beat me to it, Andy!

Basically, it's just held on with 4 (2 on each side) bolts. You can see them once under the car. It's not immediately obvious that they're for the bumper either. Give them a really good soak with WD40 or similar first. Take out the fogs/indicators. Undo the bolts and pull the bumper forward. Make sure you have a blanket on the ground in case you drop the bumper. Easy as. Only prob I had was the bolts took two hours to get undone! Once off the car, give them a good clean and grease before doing them up again, then next time they'll come off nice and easy.

I'd say leave it to the pros. They seem to hate doing Corrados as you have to cut it all out, unlike most modern cars.

Wow, Nikki- 180K! That must be getting on for 50K since you've had it?! Removed the cat heatshield (no more buzzing! 8) ), changed the C-pillar trim which was falling apart, padded the rear axle (knocking exhaust) and adjusted the rear coilies to stiffest setting. Will prob change 'em back tomorrow- car felt a bit skittish.

Had something similar ages ago- front lights came on with brakes. I had recently changed one of the rear brake light bulbs, but used the wrong bulb. Changed it for the corect one- problem sorted.

Under your 'supervision,' eh Jon? ;) Your bro is very trusting! You'll have to pop down with Andy sometime- for some VW tinkering ;)
-
Great pics, Andy :) Really starting to take shape. G is being very understanding about all this! Gonna pop down this week sometime? Would be very interested to see how the tweeked G compares to my standard VR for speed...
-
That would be me  Managed 53mpg on a 20 mile trip... and yes, I did drive like a granny- purely out of curiosity, you understand ;)
-
Gotta add- been well impressed with Tom lately- really knows his stuff 8)
-
Mate, just replied to your PM :) Had quite a fright reading from the top- break her! Glad you saw the light ;) Also glad it's sorted now. KR cam was fitted by Stealth... Gotta say, the car ran really well (a good improvement) after it had been fitted. Could it have jumped a tooth since?
-
The VR had a new downpipe fitted today and the mechanic said it was the nicest VR he'd driven and it was faster than another they have in at the mo which has BMC, stainless 6-branch, decat & cams! Well chuffed 8)
-
It's quite baffling. Saw it today (she looks superb!) when I picked up my VR (thankfully fixed). Tom said it had got him a bit stumped. I told him how I managed to fix the water ingestion when I had it- dunno whether he'll try that tomorrow. Really hope you get this sorted.
