Dom, think Yan meant reflectors?

The sponge is supposed to be in the damper pot, but on mine, it had got sucked into one of the damper pot hoses. Just take off the hoses and make sure it's not stuck inone of them. Sounds OK though, as the car has stopped stalling.

If the damper has cracked, that would defo stall the car and make the sound you describe. Something similar happened with mine- the sponge inside was sucked into one of the hoses. It kept stalling and making a popping sound. You can just remove it completely and use a piece of hose instead- much cheaper than buying the new part and works just as well. Basically there is a hose that goes from the back of the head to the damper. Then there is a hose from the damper to the ISV. Just remove the damper and it's hoses, and connect a hose from the ISV to the back of the head. The ISV is located at the bottom of your pic- you can see it poking out from under the black plastic engine cover. Has the two hoses going to it and an electrical plug. You can just about get to it, but it's much easier to remove the engine cover/lead holder first. Remove it and soak in carb cleaner for as long as you can. A good shake will help. Use a screwdriver to gently open the shutter inside to make sure it hasn't siezed. Tip out carb cleaner, bit of WD40 and refit ;)

Grimmy, give Richard at Blake a ring- a few weeks ago he told me about a really cracking VR up for sale for £2.5K with leather etc. Prob gone already, but worth a shot. Sounded like it had been very well looked after. -
Nice car, Charlie! Shame I missed seeing the charged-up version at the last meet- will hopefully see it next time :)

Both really nice- love blackberry 8)

That's sickening :( Defo a 4x4... Check out all the 4x4s in your street for red paint on the bumper/bull bars ;) -

Rich knows his stuff.. does good work... Dont suppose you know Matt Waite.. used to have an Aubergine Edition 1 G60 Golf, with r/h drive conversion, flared arches and BBS's?? Lives/d in Minch... Nah, don't know him- think I may have seen the car around though. Tom who works for Richard has a Golf G60 as well, doesn't he? Yeh, Rich knows his stuff, and is really fair with pricing etc. Good guy. -

rapid_rocco, another Blake customer? Grimmy, that is a horrible sight :( If you need a hand breaking, let me know. Not particularly mechanically minded, but would be happy to help. -
Seconded- stat housing. Could affect the temp.
-
Agree with the others- they've been sprayed :( Should be a mirror-like finish.
-
Don't think you'd notice any symtoms tbh.
-
Prob best not to drive it too much once the engine light has come on, and there's clearly something wrong. Get it on Vagcom asap.
-
Sounds like the lambda...
-
I think the exhaust cam will have the chain wheel attached to it ;)

Nooooo! Tha't awful. Absolutely gutted for you :( That's Minchinhampton common, isn't it? Always thought that was a dodgy junction. I always go across there on my way to Blake Services- I'll be extra careful now. Even if they write it off (which I'm sure they will), could well be worth buying back of the insurance company and breaking it. It's got decent wheels, interior, engine etc. I presume the front end's OK? -
Well done, Nik 8) You've worked so hard on this car, brought it back from the dead etc. I was soooo gutted when it got written off, and now it's absolutely awesome. Hopefully I'll get to see it again sometime :)

Get a replacement from Ford. They are around £25. If you get one from VW, you will have to buy the inlet pipe with it and it costs loads!
-
They usually go for around £15-30.
-
Typically around 90C. Shouldn't go much over 100C.
-
Only the VR6 had 5-stud hubs.
-
Critical_Mass, mine was set up exactly like yours is when I bought it. Ran fine, but I have since bought a new valve from Ford, because without the valve a little oil makes it into the intake. Also need the hose that connects to the top of the valve- trying to source one from a car being broken.

G60.. what's it worth?.. Now Bristolbarons Gallery!

Car is looking excellent, Josh. You've brought it a hell of a long way since the first page! Loving the Solitudes! Shame I missed you at the Bristol/Bath meet last week- will hopefully see you at the next one :) -
I've had two in the past- metallic black 16v and plain black VR. Had 2 black Civic VTIs and our vRS is black. Like black 8) Think my fav was Honda Pirate's black- had an aubergine flip in it, visible when the sun came out- lovely colour.
