Wierd complaint, my rado's quicker then I expected!!
CazzaVR replied to Laughingboy's topic in Engine Bay
Hmmm, would've needed some serious fettling to get that speed. In reality, it was probably doing around 145mph, so if it has been cammed, gasflowed, bored out to 2lt and had the WUR mod, that's prob about right. could be pushing 180bhp with those sort of mods. Get it RR'd! -
Could well be the ISV. Give it a good clean and check all the pipework is properly attached, so there is no leakage. Make sure that the foam from the black plastic ISV pot hasn't been sucked into one of the hoses- happened recently on mine and the car kept stalling. If it's not that, then it could be any number of things such as the MAF, leads, coilpack etc etc. Start with the cheap and easy things. Also maybe worth getting it on VAGCOM before any expenditure ;)

End of August 1992. Just swap the cat back on for the MOT.

Cheers dude. You got any before and after pics of your VR? Not yet- haven't done a great deal to it yet- still a work in progress.

Sorry to see that mate :( Could have been a lot worse though. Horrible experience killing an animal- especially something like a deer :(
-
What a transformation! Nice work :)

Would think you'd get more air though, as it has a more direct 'ram' effect, rather than having to get around the light. Probably only a couple of BHP I would think...

Try the Ebay one. Pretty thorough and v.cheap. Tells you if there are any mileage discrepancies, previous plates, owners, date of manufacture, accidents etc etc.

From the plastic panel to the left of the rad (behind the grille), into the front of the airbox. You need to cut a round hole in the plastic panel for the feed to fit into it.

My first two valvers were excellent for economy- used to see mid to high 30's on longer journeys. My last one however, was more like a VR in economy. Hardly ever managed 30mpg on the way to work. Best I got was around 34. My new VR is around the same.

:) It's actually not that bad to do, is it? It's left me feeling a lot more confident about doing other stuff now.
-
Are you fitting the alarm? Nice pics BTW :)

I got a 10% discount from Northfield in Cirencester the other day. Just told them I was a CCGB member.

Andy Brookes, that's crap! Hope you get it sorted OK. Fitted my detailed headlamps and did an engine reset- seems much better now, and the idle is absolutely smooth :)
-
Yeh, if there's a gap between the headlight and airbox, and you can see the hole at the front of the airbox, the snorkel is gone. When present it makes a really snug, airtight fit between light and airbox.

Dave, nope- it's a cracker for the money ;) Just a few minor things to sort. Had another look at that door handle- think I defo need to send it to you in half term (week after next) if that's still OK?
-
Me too :) Don't quite have the range of ECP and GSF, but their service is better and the quality of parts seems better too.
-
Indeed! I'm dead chuffed :)

Detailed headlights Fixed rattle under dash, and greased squeeky clutch pedal Fitted new rad (very proud of myself!)

Done! Phew! Took around 5 hours all in, but well over an hour to undo the 4 17mm bumper bolts. Took two of us using a breaker bar and a great big wrench! The rest of it is pretty straight forward. Reckon I could do it in a couple of hours next time- that said, I hope their isn't a next time all that soon! Relief to get it done.

It will sound good, but if anything, you'll probably lose a bit of edge in performance. Just fit a K&N filter, and remove the snorkel from the front of the airbox. This will give a really nice sound. You can also route a cold air feed into the airbox.

At the back of the engine under the black plastic lead guide/cover near the throttle body. It's attached to a black plastic 'pot' which has some pipework. You can remove it without removing the plastic cover, but it's more fiddly. Removal is easy- one electrical plug and two hoses which will have jubilee or spring clips. 10 mins max :)
