  1. hi m8 if it is a VR then the main thing i recall from when i changed my rad was to support the engine with a jack when you remove the 2 big bolts that go through an engine mount on either side as for the rest it is just removing indicators/fogs (they can be a bitch if the the screws have rusted) & the air temp sensor which clips into the bottom of one side of the bumper there are 2 locating 'lugs' on each side behind the bumper into which the bumper slides & positions
  2. probably! just like the derby trade cars guy who brought my gf's storm last year saying he would never sell it, always wanted a storm, would give my gf first refusal if he ever sold it blah blah lying through his f***ing teeth, moaning about the chains not been done.....then 6 months later is is for sale, £5 grand more than he brought it for & guess what....no mention of the chains been done at all!!! i do wish i had told her not to let him have it :(
  3. nice collection - lets them them :) welcome, make yourself at home
  4. cool i will keep that in mind from memory the body work is excellent with the exception of a bubble by the bonnet badge & maybe another one or two somewhere - it only ever did dry miles by the owner my dad got it from & then my dad did the same
  5. a little electrical tape neatly wrapped around where it goes in could help i did that with the 'door pin surround' solution i came up with a while ago
  6. being in the position that i have both & have had many many miles driving in each of them - they both have their own pro's & con's the valver has old saggy suspension & crashy bushes but some days i quite like the slight wallow & soft feeling it has however, on other days the sharp, very crisp, super responsive, rock solid gripped to the road feel the VR gives is awesome & just invites you to take it for a lap or 2 around the cloverleaf lol the valver material interior is much nicer on hot days than the VR's leather however, swap that in the colder days as the heated seats in the VR are lovely & the heat works properly due to the heater box liner being in place. (thanks to a very kind person on here i do have the felt to refub the valver's flaps but i need to take the dash out again) obviously the noise they make is extremely different & the VR wins hands down every time. i can hand on heart say i adore my BMC & Longlife exhaust & the sound they produce!! the valver also has the Kamei skirts on it which i have always loved & are ultra rare. however this point is hopefully going to e negated at some point as thanks to Goldie on here i have an identical full spare Kamei kit which i want to put on the VR. ironically the Kamei kit was one of the main reasons i wanted the valver back for those years when i had sold it fuel is quite different between the 2. the valver can deliver around the same mileage as the VR but for £10 less fuel. ie the VR gets around 200 miles for £35 V-Power but the valver does the same 200 miles for just £25 V-Power Andy - as for the 1.8 or 2.0 question - hmmmm - i was under the impression (from what read/heard/told etc) that the 1.8 often ended up slightly faster than the 2.0 as it bedded in better or something Plus IIRC were the 2.0's an 8 valve rather than some 1.8's being 16v, like mine is do i also recall something about the 1.8 being more tuner friendly too maybe as always it is personal preference but the 1 big thing i really do like about the VR over the valver is that with the VR i can pretty much just drive round in 5th gear all the time lol much less gear changing required than the valver as the VR will trundle at 15mph in 5th & not even grumble (pls know this last point will be due to my laziness as i potter to & from work & CBA to change gear for a roundabout lol) on a final note - if you want to come see my valver & try to convince me to be sensible & part with her then fill your boots ;) lol
  7. i have been trying to find the thread on which i saw the stuff but cant find it the website implies it is 'made for purpose' stuff which would make me hope that they pre-empted the need to remove it once fitted & then refit it if necessary i will be very interested to hear how you get on m8 - in respect of both contacting them & how you get on if you buy some i would take the plunge myself but i am silly broke at the moment & need to get the valver MOT'd in july
  8. m8 that convoy would be awesome! i still remember the goose bumps i would get as a young lad when my dad would start the porker - that flat six rumble is just sublime it is a 'last of the 3 litres' from 1978 & non whale tale :D does they just to bodywork or do they tackle the mechanics side of a resto too?
  9. yup she is fuming!! more at the fact that the guy completely lied through his teeth - saying he always wanted a storm, it was not going to be sold on, going to be stored & worked on blah blah bullsh1t bullsh1t & was so negative about the car when she had worked so hard to get it sparkling oh & no mention if he has done the chains - as that was a big issue for him!
  10. LOL you could have had it for less than half that price last year when it was advertised on here m8 it was my gf's storm & the guy is trying to make £5 grand on it!!
  11. hi m8 sorry i didnt see your reply yesterday glad they confirmed it was suitable! i think it is manufactured as a 'better' membrane solution due to its sound qualities IIRC i saw it on EJ Taylor's thread as he used it on his doors looking at your current membrane pic - whoa, i though my drivers door was bad lol as for the 'removal one fitted' issue - i wonder if a little heat from a hair dryer would allow it to be removed & then restuck apart from issues with the window or wiring in the door there shouldnt be many circumstances which need to take it off once fitted
  12. nice website that is EJ :D i am guessing your dad is in the same kind of area as yourself? i have saved it as a favourite as my dad has a 1978 SC Targa which is hopefully going to be making an appearance at some point
  13. yes m8 & i can tell you 100% that is a £5k increase to what he paid - after moaning & knocking the gf down
  14. ive only just seen this - i had a week off last week the gf is likely to not be happy! andrew from DTC brought it off her end of last year via ebay he turned up many hours later than scheduled, though with notice, but it was dark & damp by the time he got there - not the best condition to view a car long story short he moaned rather a lot & then offered many hundred notes under the his ebay winning price now he is trying to make £5K on it after telling us he wanted it as a keeper it doesnt even look like he/they have done anything to it since buying lying piece of **** salesman!!
  15. RESULT!!!! did Vince manage to sort everything out for you m8?
  16. hi Fendervg take alook at this http://www.silentcoat.co.uk/collections/silent-coat/products/silent-coat-2mm-mat-door-pack i have recently re-adjusted the drivers liner in my VR but occasionally it is still not right - when funds allow i am going top try the above as i have seen some fitted & it looks a much better solution than factory
  17. i didnt notice the price lol however, on 2nd look i did notice that the company says they can also produce the foam inserts. a better look & there are the seat upper inserts i wonder if they can produce the one we all need, the drivers lower bolster!? cant see one on the ebay page though :(
  18. they do not look like a 'cover' to me they look like a full kit to completely re-trim the upholstery thus would require some skilled dis-assembly & even better skilled re-assembly that said, with the right skills they could produce good results - though i would wonder about the leather durability as a result of what quality leather was used could be an option if a refurb of originals is out of the question
  19. scuff my ass!! that is a frickin dent lol
  20. bloody good info again m8 thanks!! lol
  21. if i hadnt just checked my bank i would be saying yes to this, even if just for the day sadly, funds will not allow
  22. well i am pleased to say that the VR performed well in the monsoon today - only the very slightest of dribbles of water on the top of the plastic sill trim no soaking footwell carpet yay :) i wonder how the valver is at home lol
  23. oh i see, the other way round then both awful for the innocent involved
  24. blimey what is with this weather eh - june, it looks like bloomin november outside! dare i type it though but the VR drivers door seal seems to be behaving itself - probably jinx'ed myself now & it will be damp carpets at break time & as i type the rain is hammering - fingers crossed it holds today! oh & i hope my porch doesnt flood either :(
