It should be kept in check by the ECU and the lambda probe. However there could be other reasons for it being high. Do you do lots of short journeys? It could be fuel in the oil which is being burnt via the breather system giving an artificially high reading. When did you last have an oil change? A bad full throttle switch on the Throttle body may prevent the ECU from controlling the mixture at tickover?? I would expect you to be complaining of poor fuel consumption too if the probe was duff. Did they try anything to help you get it thru? Revving the engine? Gavin

In front of passenger feet under the bonnet. Below the expansion tank and above the gearbox. All the brake pipes come out of it, Gavin ETKA lists it as the same part as many MK3 Golfs. No need to pay extra fro a Corrado one!!

Everythings a possibility. Maybe something was disturbed around teh fusebox, they are fussy things at the best of times. I spend a fair bit of time making sure everything works when I have fitted an alarm and had the fusebox out. gavin

My 93 Passat estate just failed the test on brake pipes, like I thought it would. £15 for two rolls of pipe, I have 3 of the flexies in already, the other 3 will cost about £15, then I just need a litre of fluid. I have printed off the diagrams from ETKA for the brake pipes, it has all the lengths you need listed. I am going to check a couple to make sure I have the right list. Then I can make the rest of the pipes, up before having the car off the road. Gonna convert it to 280s, as I have the brackets and some OK secondhand discs floating about the garage. Gavin

That voltage problem at the pump could due to a bad connection. Maybe if you take the lpug off and refit it or check the condition of the earth wires around the pump. One may be corroded which would change the voltage. I'd do stuff like that before changing the pump. Gavin

You're thinking about the servo Gav... The ABS pump is a seperate item. Intermittent faults which only occur when moving could also be the mechanical part of the ABS sensor (the bit wot spins that the sensor detects!) or dodgy wiring. (had both on my C  ) If the light goes out after the ignition is turned on, and only comes back on over 6mph BEFORE you've pressed the brake peddle, it can't be a pump fault as the pump has not yet been used and has passed the initial power on test. Sorry fellas, I was on about LHD Golfs and Rallyes and American Cs. G60jet, I would have expected yours to have the same setup as me, wihout a servo. I forgot RHD stuff is like a MK3 Golf. If the pump fails on my car there is no assistance. Apologies if I added confusion to the thread. Gavin

I was on 15s at the time with my C. I'd say it's the width that would give fitment problems not the diameter. How big are your wheels and what size tyres are you using. If you move away from the original dimensions that VW designed the car with, you will compromise the handling. For example MK1 Golfs handle just as well if not better on 13inch rims as they do on 14s. Its just that you have a better choice of rubber with 14s. If you have7.5 or maybe 8 inch wide rims with max 215 tyres you should be ok. Any bigger in any direction is likely to give you problems. Can you get 18s that narrow???? The amount of lowering will make it more critical that the exhaust is fitted spot on. Reference to 18s means you definitely rob banks!! Gavin :D

we know what you drive and what you do!but how old are you??

2K for insurance, what do you do Peter, rob banks?? Gavin 8) -
Is it coming from behind you? I am leaning towards a knocking on the axle noise. Bad/old hanger rubbers let the zorst hang too low and they meet under extremes of movement. Jetex are really bad for it, as the bore seems to be larger than other. Crap bumpstops dont help either. Oh yeah, you got AVOs. Any bumpstops fitted??? Gavin
-
Could be the heatshield on the cat. Assuming it rattles when you are parked up. Have someone rev the car while you scan underneath. Or is it knocking on the back axle as the back end squats down? Gavin

http://www.candrenterprises.co.uk/ Peter, The kit is German TUV approved, blah blah blah. It is conventional struts and springs fixed height, although the rears have circlips for fine tuning the height. You can save money and have fixed damping if you want. Check with C&R but I think the fixed damping kit, is the equivalent of the adjustables set midway or something like that. They advertise in The Golf etc. The TA stuff is about 350 and the nonA around 275. Honestly I have only adjusted my TA stuff once. I set it midway and then set it straight back to max. Gavin

Peter, could be the wiper on the sender is damaged/dirty/knackered. It is part of teh fuelpump. Access is in the boot. Half hour job to look at with the right tools. Not worth trying if you dont have the tools/knowledge. A garage would need an hour or so to check it out. Let us know if you want the low down. If you find out you need some parts let us know. I did have a duff pump with good sender in my garage but I cant remember if I binned it? Gavin
-
Peter, best place for your AVOs, IMHO is the bottom of the bin. I had countless trouble with them in the past on my MK1. I even went mad, after having the fronts both fettled under warranty and bought two more brand new ones. One of which banged from new. In the end I gave up and bought a Weitec TA kit from C&R which was great. So good that I bought the same kit for my Corrado and transferred it to my Golf when I bought it. Definitely not worth 500 quid. Gavin Loom going in the morning :D

Yeah, if the pump fails the brakes have no assistance. Then you will need a right leg like Arnie to stop. Intermittent lights are most likely to be a sensor. Gavin

Richard, just so you know, Beavis is Steve. :D No Brummie accent with a keyboard  Gavin

MK3 16V has a cable box. MK3 8V is rod change. Gavin

2.0 16v starting then stalling almost immediately
h100vw replied to [email protected]'s topic in Archive
I have another idea for you. The closed throttle switch on the throttle body may have failed. Check the cable is not too tight first!! If the ECU doesn't know the throttle is closed it causes a no tickover situation. I had this on a 9A engined Passat I had. I only just remembered. I think the ISV shuts off when the throttle opens. Then when the throttle closes it comes back into play. As the tickover screw should be screwed all the way in, there is no way for the engine to get enough air to tickover. Gavin -

Where are you mate? What engine?????? It sounds like it may be a monster air leak. I have done it to myself a few times on KR motors. Had the head off or cams out nad forget to reconnect the hose for the brake servo. It'll start off the fuel from the cold start injector but as there is no vacuum in the manifold no other fuel gets in. Have a look for split pipes. If you have a factory immobiliser it could be that. It runs for a couple of seconds so you know the engine is ok but cuts out cos its the wrong key/no transponder. Gavin edit. read the top of the post now! Not sure if you have an immobiliser. -
They corrode quite bad. I bought one for my MK3 Golf which cost a daft £5 odd. You can replace the switch on its own. The wires could be broken in the rubber tubes that feed the wires ou of the boot lid? Gavin

I doubt if a 'professional thief' would learn something new from us. Besides they will be in the pub spending their ill gotten gains on lager. I used a 17 mm impact socket on some triloc bolts after taking the spinning ring thing off. I got four bolts out with it in 10 mins no problems. Gavin

You're welcome, Dave. Gavin

Lambda probe or wiring damaged? Try http://www.snstuning.com look at the diy. Also http://www.vwvortex.com forums technical G60 section good FAQs there. Gavin

Dave, the dim dip resistor needs to be disconnected if fitted. The last one I saw was tucked down by the battery on the passenger side. It looked as you have described though, about 8cm long with yellow wires and a yellow plug. I am not sure that it was still fitted, on a late car such as yours? You are right, there is no right/wrong way to route the loom providing that it won't be damaged, with something rubbing on it. Never be afraid to ask dumb questions. It would be dumber to break something, for the want of asking on here. Happy New Year Gavin :)
