Best would be to find a Mk3 Golf or a Passat at a breakers and take the whole system - or have you got most of it already?
-
Not sure - I have stretched Michelin Pilot Sport 195/50/15 on the Corrado at the moment and don't like them much - just fitted two Uni Rainsports to the front of my wife's Touran recently and it feels very solid and planted I'll be going back to 205/50/15 for sure next time.
-
No worries - if you scroll back through the thread, I posted some photos of the whole thing disassembled.
-
Hey Chris - do you still have some left? It's about time I tackled this job. And can you explain the difference between the two types - mineral vs acrylic etc. to help me decide which ones to go for? Cheers.
-
Uniroyal Rainsports seem to be a common choice - one of the few available in the original sizes

The swirl pot is the housing that the pump body sits in.

Ha ha - no chance of snow at the moment! I'd always clear snow off the car regularly, even if not using it, during heavy snowfall. Certainly always before driving. Have you checked that the drains are actually connected and working? There's two at the front and two on the back of the sunroof, at each corner, and the hoses clip onto a plastic channel with a spout, which are basically just stuck on the four corners of the metal frame. I've seen cases where the plastic is cracked, so the water just leaks out.

Debate - what makes a Storm a better car than a normal VR?

Yeah, it's very weird that the center console is all cream, and then it just ends when it hits the black dash. -

I know they're not, but it sure seems like it considering how few ever come up for sale. I've had cash saved twice for one, and spent it again on other things because I never had a chance to buy one! -
What 80's - 90s cars for sale have caught your eye recently.

Interior looks in decent shape as well, but always hard to tell - at least it's been cleaned, unlike some! -
Payment on its way!

Yes, looks clean and a great base car for whatever way you want to take it - "a rare moonroof" - lol: that just means the sunroof broke like it does on every other car, but at least a replacement has already been done. -

Yeah, the Campaign is a proper special edition - for rarity's sake though I'd rather have an original VWM VSR. The G60 Jet was kind of a limited run out budget edition in Europe. I don't think there were ever any specials in the US/Canada. -
Cheers - sounds fair enough. PM me your paypal details and I'll arrange payment - thanks.

He's like a magnet for Corrado spare parts!

Hi Jon - could I take dibs on the ignition switch please - postage would be to Dublin, Ireland, so you might need to check it. BTW, what you have down as a PCV valve is a actually a silencer/damper box for the idle stabilization valve. Tehy often crack or fail, leading to air leaks and idle probs.

The "rarity" aspect feeds into my point that a Storm needs to be original. I'm not aware of any Storms having been ordered with any factory extras apart from what was in the brochure, except for the Diavia aircon, which was fitted by the dealers in the UK. The strangest part was that VW were quite happy to supply the badge kits over the counter without needing a chassis number or proof of ownership - over the years we've seen quite a few fake cars, especially in green. -
Agreed - and volt/oil gauges and maybe heated black Recaros - but some kind of engine mod would have made them really special. There were quite a few factory extras that could have been thrown at it to max it out and make it stand out. I often dream about what the VR spec would have been like if they had kept making them until 1998 to the end of the Mk3 era, things like proper OBDII, working sunroof, 288 brakes, Teves 20 ABS, maybe 24v/3.0/3.2 engines or even a turbo...
-
That looks like a lovely example - enjoy. Love the colour. Do you have any more details on the spec and plans or is it pretty much standard?

Ha ha, is the gear shift not faster though because of the one on the center console trim, leading the better 0-60 times? -
Spun off from: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?109962-Corrado-VR6-Storm-deposit-taken/page4 The golden oldie question - why is a a Storm better/more valuable/desirable than a standard late VR, considering the relatively minor and few differences in specification, and considering that you could order a better equipped VR from a dealer? The only way to check that they are genuine is with VW, and they weren't even the last 500 RHD cars off the factory floor. Of course, the Storm badge adds 5BHP. Don't get me wrong, I've looked at Storms and even had a hankering after one, but they were nearly always in worse condition than other VRs out there. IMHO a Storm needs to be kept original and OEM to be worth having - or at least be capable and supplied with the parts needed to get it back to original. If you want to mod/convert, use a standard car. But each owner has their own take on this. Let's see what you think.
-
But I don't think there's any point at all in having a Storm over a normal VR unless it's an investment or original (why mess with it?) - it's two badges, a painted grille, CD changer and BBS Solitude alloys off a Mk3, and the blue paint was never used on a C, so that's it IMHO. Better not to start a debate on Storm vs VR - that's been done to death. Or we can start a new thread and have some fun! ;)
-
That's fair enough - I would have sold him the plate on it's own! The trouble with Storms is that they are only really worth that extra premium if they are all original - there's little point in a heavily modded "special" edition, even if all the mods make sense and add to the car.

Nasty stuff. Hate to see this going on. Traders are up to it all the time.
