If you plan on keeping the corrado for a while, and you're going to use it on an audi too, then I'd say it's well worth the investment in the full VCDS.
-
Good luck, hope it's straight through.
-
But Ebay want people like this, and the people stupid enough to pay the price - they'll get 10% of the price (maybe capped at £40). And the trouble is there are too many people prepared to pay way over the price for things - it depends what it's worth to a person, and how much money they've got.

Have you checked the stealers? Might still be available new if you really want the useless plastic version and possibly for around the same price. But if you actually want to use it to remove the leads, forget it, buy a metal one. See this

Christmas is coming... please help us

Finally finished the corrado, got a few issues
tonytiger replied to Jim Bowen's topic in General Car Chat
Clutch pedal travel might be affected by the hydraulic fluid level - but not sure if it's all or nothing with the clutch pedal. Edit - forgot to say, congratulations on getting to this point! Must have been great to get it out on the road. If it's been 18 months, I guess it's not MOT'd right now - hope that goes well once you get the last obvious bits and bobs sorted. -
Modern car headlights... is it just me?
tonytiger replied to Critical_Mass's topic in General Car Chat
Me too! I've found for the past few years that modern car headlights are too bright for my liking. Originally, just high spec/exec cars, but now it seems to be most newer cars. And if a car has misaligned lights, then at least with a car over 3 years old it gets checked once a year for such things, but with a new car it's unlikely to be picked up at all. -
Some of us have never had the luxury of a garage, but at least a driveway is better than nowhere at all. Admittedly it's less attractive doing a service on the drive at this time of year but I've just done one on my saxo, it wasn't that bad. So just get on with it. ;-) Good luck with the MOT though!

I think if you're buying from the top end of the market, and do actually get one worth the money, then the maintenance costs shouldn't be too bad, as long as you keep on top of everything when things do crop up. Also, would you be doing any of the maintenance yourself, or paying somebody else to do it?
-
Expensive, in my opinion! Not sure there's a vast amount of difference between mpg across the models - probably more to do with driving style. If I were buying again for a daily driver, I'd go for the 16v myself I think, even though there's a bit of a difference in performance.

Yes, but there's not many tyre fitting / fast fit centres open on a Sunday, or late evening (at least near me anyway). And for some people it's just convenient to go to a national chain rather than a local independent, and they probably believe they're getting a good deal with 25% off. But that's no different to the majority of companies that advertise special offers these days (as typically the price is increased for a short time - making the 'special offer' price just the same as it was a month earlier at normal price). And, to be fair, I know a lot of people complain about them saying work needs doing that doesn't but my sister used a local branch for mot tests for a couple of years, and they didn't try to rip her off at all, and even did a few jobs for free. I personally don't use them unless it's an emergency, but it's good to have that option.

Well, I hope you do get the opportunity to own one again in the future - assuming the expense hasn't put you off! Of course seeing it often might mean you'll end up with one again sooner rather than later, regardless of the cost. :norty: Although it might be a sad day for you, it's good to hear it's been sold rather than broken.

Is the sunroof seal still available? I'll take it for £12 posted if it is.
-
I'd say either stick to the original, or go for something much more adventurous.
-
Thanks muchly! :thumbleft: I'd already tried using a screwdriver unsuccessfully, but with the lining out of the way it was easy. Didn't realise that lining cover came away so easily. And yes, I'd already found loads of threads about the repair kit. Another job to add to the list....

Something's broken on my sunroof, as it's open fully on tilt, but when I try to close it (manually with the allen key) only the drivers side closes - the passenger side doesn't budge. Is there any way I can persuade/force the passenger side down without removing the whole lot at the moment? I've tried searching and reading through pages and pages of posts but I couldn't find an answer. I've not tried a sledgehammer on it yet - but it might come to that..... THanks.
-
Well that's not true for all VWs - just look at the variation of paint jobs, styles, customisation, etc for aircooled dubs. It's good to see someone being a bit more adventurous and different with a corrado - though I am a bit concerned about what you've done - have you just done the one wheel or all 4 ? :D
-
Perhaps it's just me, but I can't see any pictures or a price.
-
As VR6 said, that's not good. Are you using a cheap/basic/rapid charger to charge it up again? Have you tried charging the battery for a couple of days to see if that helps. I know you can get fancy chargers these days that I've heard can condition/revive batteries - but whether the expense of one of those would be of benefit it's hard to say. You might be as well just getting a new battery. How did Halfords test the battery, and did you watch them test it? Perhaps you could go somewhere else that does free battery checks and see what they say? However, you really do need to find out if there's simply something draining the battery too quickly first.

Now Rado-less. Mk2 gti 16v to soften the blow!
tonytiger replied to 8vMatt's topic in General Car Chat
Looks very nice. I always really wanted a mk2 golf gti when I was younger, yet when I had the opportunity I ended up buying a Scirocco, then another, then the Corrado, and even temporarily had a mk2 golf gl - but never a gti!! Other than the performance, I suspect you'll not really miss the corrado much. Glad to hear you're putting the 4 light grille back on - a mk2 gti HAS to have a 4 light grille! I was going to ask where you found it so cheap, but I see your on the south coast - all the bargains seem to be down that way! -
I think quite a few people have switched to an alternative setup using aftermarket fans such as Spal - if you search for spal fan it should throw up a few threads, such as this one. Depends if you want so stay oem, or don't mind a few minor mods - though I think they can be made to fit in the original housing. It's something I'm considering myself.

How old are you, and how long have you had your Corrado/Corrado's?
tonytiger replied to Overmind's topic in General Car Chat
I'm 39 and have owned my only Corrado for 9 years - originally it was a daily driver, doing about 450 miles a week, but is now a second car. -
I'm very envious right now! I've always thought the atom would be awesome to drive - I've only ever seen one on the road and it looked amazing. It's a long time since I've done a car experience day and I really must see about doing another when time permits. Interesting that you were encouraged to push the car (unless you were driving like a wuss ;)) - you were either prevented from using all the gears, or rev-limited. I've just looked at the 6th gear website and see they do elvington, york - not quite as convenient as croft, but not too far away. If only I had more time.....
