Ron's Blackberry VR6 - A11 VRX - Getting her back on the road
Jim replied to Hofmiester's topic in Members Gallery
Definitely the right decision, Ron :) -
If you're only doing limited mileage in the car, then the VW standard underseal which should already be in place (and in good condition if the previous owners are anything to go by!) will hold up very well.. it's extremely durable. I'd personally just inspect it annually and buy some rust treatment / VW underseal / paint to touch it up on any areas where it becomes damaged.

I really like Infinity stereo stuff. On the higher end of budget type stuff before things get expensive, but very decent sound quality. Would definitely suggest checking it out :)

I can't speak for the 24V as it's a very different engine to the 12V but the turbo is just insane compared to the supercharger. I've never owned either, but have driven both. Thing with the charger is that it matches the characteristics of the VR6 engine in that it still needs to be revved to get the most out of it, whereas the turbo the torque comes in so quickly. And from the various dyno plots and results I've seen in the last few years, turbo yields much better results overall. But as I say, comes at a price. Not cheap.

You know.. if you were to describe that paint scheme on the Corrado closest to camera to me in person, I think a little part of me would have died inside. But it looks awesome I have to say.

Turbo'ing is pretty well regarded now as the best way of going forced induction on these V6's. The only reason you'd supercharge is if you can't stretch to the cost of a decent turbo install which is easily double if not more.

Best get saving and make sure you do some thorough research to find an authentic example. That age of watch will still be using the Cal. 321 movement which means parts are more scarce and subsequently very expensive. Good luck though... An extremely desirable and timeless piece that should only ever accumulate in value. There's so many great special edition Speedmasters. You could say Omega have milked the moon association for every single penny but they resulted in some great watches. I always desired the Alaska Project special edition version.. One day.. One day..

I honestly completely forgot. I will see about getting it pinned somewhere though this evening if I remember!

Kris's guide was pretty handy for the locations of all the bolts so definitely worth double checking that.

What are you stuck with on it, Jim?

Always fancied a fairly basic Rolex Sub - but as you say n3p, they're crazy money for what they are :(

Welcome to the forum. Great to find another local Corrado owner! I pop into Warwick and Leamington from time to time as I have a number of friends (and some family) in Warwick so will keep an eye out for you. Can see it's a VR - got any more info? Mileage, colour, etc? :)

I did it about 18 months ago, after dumping my Octavia VRS and switching back to my VR as my only car. It was good to come back to using it as a daily, and has been mostly reliable and apart from a little tantrum since (alternator not charging) and some subsequent gremlins (replacement alternator was crap) to sort, and of course the damn heater matrix going it's been pretty solid. But had about enough of running around in a car with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock and virtually no creature comforts and am looking forward to getting myself back in something new or nearly new pretty soon! VR is just starting to feel like too much of a compromise every day, and want some comforts and reliability again for a while. Plus there's some rust and stuff appearing in bad places (sills) that at least if I take it off the road, I can think about how to tackle in my own time.

Agreed - if you want go down some dirt tracks and similar, you should be considering a hybrid as kerrly says :)

Advise - problem with lock-up garage, letting agents evasive..
Jim replied to Jim's topic in Off-topic Chat
Yeah - writing a letter had been in my mind. The only thing that stopped me was that I'd made all previous enquiries by phone and have a horrible recollection for dates so have no idea how often I've contacted them and when. Thanks for the suggestions though. Will start giving them some proper stick after xmas I think. -
Aye.. cycling snobs would write it off but for a basic road bike, I'm sure it'll be fine for that money. Go for it :)

Advise - problem with lock-up garage, letting agents evasive..

That's a good question - I've not got any of the tenancy agreement. My old man rents the garage, but I just use it (and pay the rent to him). I'll ring him tonight and ask him to have a look. -

Cheers for the thoughts / feedback all. It's looking like a face to face initially, followed up by writing letters to the folks as advised by Sean are going to be the only way to get some movement on this. -
I currently rent a garage in Coventry, and between me and my old man have probably rented it for a little over 20 years. In the couple of years or so the door has become increasingly dodgy and in serious need of replacement, finally culminating in it breaking (I think pretty fundamentally) about 4 months ago. Since then I've been trying to get the letting agents to do something about it but they've been infuriating evasive and are basically just ignoring my calls. About a month into this saga, I did manage to get a guy to come out and look and measure it up for replacement accepting it was basically shagged - and that's it. I don't hassle them regularly, but give a phone call once every couple of weeks - they take my number down and say they'll get back to me, and then never do. I'm really starting to lose my temper. It's made even worse by the fact that, at the time I called this in, I was storing a reasonably valuable classic car in the garage and was concerned about a) damage from the door falling in on it and b) thievery (as it wouldn't keep anyone out!) and they seemed concerned at the time, but have done basically nothing. Where do I stand? Is there an ombudsmen for this? They've clearly got zero interest in rectifying the problem and I'm prepared to go above them if I have to? I need the garage sorting as I'm planning to store the Corrado there next year - but am not sure I'm ever going to get a resolution at this rate! Thanks.

Welcome! You'll be glad to know there seems to be an ever growing group of Corrado owners up north of the borders, so you're in good company :) Got any more details on the car? (colour, mods, mileage, etc..) :)

And the coolant you want is whatever the latest is from VW these days (G13+) available in 1 litre bottles from your VW parts desk. I keep a bottle of pre-mixed in the boot all the time just in case, but it's not ideal if your coolant level has dropped as it really shouldn't use any anywhere..

Yeah - read about that in the past and always intrigued me. Notice the wheels it's wearing too? :)
