  1. I screwed one of the bolts into it and then gave it a whack with a rubber mallet and it didn't seem to want to budge at all :/ Maybe some penetrant spray would be in order.

    Nice storm

Looks nice and tidy :) Strong money too!
  3. Hi folks.. So I just took off my just refurbished alternator (which was making a noise) and found the alternator casing was all cracked. I had another one from a breakers to put on but it won't fit. Both problems seem to hinge around this bit, where the bolts screw into: http://imgur.com/Y4XNMWm I presume whilst these aren't supposed to move easily, are they supposed to pull through the casing when you tighten the bolt into them? I think what's happened is that after the refurb, it hasn't moved, and instead has cracked the alternator casing instead! On my spare alternator, which I think came off a Golf VR6, it seems that these bits have pulled through slightly too much meaning I can't actually get them onto the alternator bracket! So I have a couple of questions: 1) What can I do to pull this threaded bit back through the housing so that I can fit it onto the bracket in the engine bay? 2) Any idea what a new alternator costs from VW so I can just get a new, genuine one, and be done with this whole fiasco? :) Thanks.
  4. Well done! I did my CBT nearly 16 months ago and subsequently failed to actually sort out a bike or any further lessons, but I do plan to try get my full license eventually. Couldn't believe how much fun it was just riding the 125 around on the roads.. can't imagine what a big superbike must be like!
  5. Honestly on reflection if I'd been a bit more 'awake' I'd have gone for that MK7 Golf deal. I've seen a similar one mentioned on PistonHeads for the current generation Focus ST - it's damn tempting.
  6. I'm a little unsure but I think they may have been used on later G60's.. the 2.0 16v wheel had a little silver insert, where the black one is pictured up close on that second picture.
  7. Modifying leased cars is a risky area.. be surprised if Bill goes that route!
  8. Looks cracking. The performance stats on them are most impressive. The Golf R was a lease car 'darling' up until a few weeks ago.. you could get them for something insane like £230/month thanks to the lease companies fiddling their figures until VW found out :)
  9. Put down your pitchforks and read the advert :) He 'only' wants 15k for it. And he doesn't say it's got 290BHP - he says that about a different replica he's doing or owns. I'd never buy a Ferrari replica in a million years but that has to be one of the best I've ever seen - it'd fool me until I heard someone give it some stick, or I looked in the cockpit.
  10. You should be able to get / use the "late" type - the VR6 ones :)
  11. Seems to be the way it's gone in recent years. We struggle to fill any stands these days :( People just don't seem to be interested in it any more. Personally speaking bored to death of normal VW specific type shows - they're completely uninteresting which is why I don't go to many any more.
  12. The ignition switch isn't worth taking in to get done - but the problem is it can either be a 30 minute job or several hour job depending on how you get on with removing 'the' screw. It's held in by a single small screw but it's extremely difficult to access. Best thing to do is whip out the front driver seat (which only takes 2 minutes) and then lie on the floor with your head in the footwell looking up at the ignition switch (once you've removed all the cowling) - then you really need a long, thin screwdriver to access it.
  13. Would consider pulling the fuel pump relay and just cranking / turning it over for a few seconds to throw oil around the engine without it actually starting. To be honest it'll probably be fine. Always hear stories of folks firing up Corrado's that have been left for years and they start and run like they'd just been parked the day before :)
  14. OK - threads merged with some forum magic. Annoyed I missed this one the first time around :)
  15. Good info! Corrado looks surprisingly good with the roof box :) How do the bars attach to the roof then?
  16. Doh - missed that thread mate.. will have to dig back through and try merging them.
  17. I guess in what is something of a sign of the times, I've found myself in the last year watching a lot less television and instead watching a lot more stuff on the internet - initially Netflix, but have come to find YouTube to have so much more interesting 'original content' than I expected. I've been subscribing to a lot of car based channels and thought I'd share the ones I've found and enjoyed so far, partly to see if it interests other people, but also to see if there's any others that you guys happen to follow? Hot Rod Magazine - Roadkill So first up is the Hot Rod Magazine show 'Roadkill' - hosted by two guys who write for Hot Rod magazine in the USA, it's mostly about road trips, but they do some other stuff such as autocross or features trips to Bonneville. The majority of episodes are about getting a car, fixing it up (loosely) then doing a road trip. There's been over 30 episodes, and first one is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOYlloxcRZA They've done some great episodes - one a month or two back, about the build up of an old Dodge Challenger they had was really enjoyable. The guys have great chemistry and it's a thoroughly enjoyable watch. Mighty Car Mods So this one I only really discovered last week thanks to a friend but have been binge watching it over the last couple of days. This is pretty hard to describe but the clue is in the name somewhat.. couple of friends in Australia run the channel and host it, and essentially it's about buying and modifying cars. They're doing some great stuff with their most recent being a bespoke build up of a Subaru Legacy, instead running a Subaru Tribeca V6 engine which is also turbo charged. The episodes can be pretty long and you need to invest a little time in each season as there are revisits to old challenges and so forth throughout but it's great. Again, the guys have great chemistry so it's extremely entertaining to watch. Here's the channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRL30YS6XFxq9Ga8W2J3A I'm just making my way through an hour long feature I'm quite enjoying called Kei to the City - about them visiting Japan, buying a cheap car, and then trying to find out a little about the JDM drift scene. That video is here: The thing is, you assume being YouTube it'll be extremely amateur but one of the guys who hosts it is a professional musician who writes all his own music for the show - it has an extremely up-market feel to it and some of the episodes are genuinely hilarious. Worth putting some time in to watch through it :) Jay Lenos Garage Weekly videos showcasing vehicles either from Jay Leno's collection or cars / bikes he's invited friends or local companies to bring over. https://www.youtube.com/user/JayLenosGarage It's great. All kinds of stuff in here from the new McLaren P1, right back to vintage steam or electric cars, vintage Bugatti's, etc. A bit of a shame as this was previously hosted directly by NBC and they seem to have moved the 'show' to YouTube, deleting a lot of the content on the way.. but there's still a tonne of stuff to watch on here. Hope some folks find these interesting or worth a watch. If you know of any worth watching, get em in here :)

    Respray Booked.

I'm amazed you're taking it in for a respray, Wendy! Fantastic news! I do have a rear bumper you're welcome to - it looks scabby but I think it's in good shape overall. Have to ask you a few questions about the paint job (cost, how long he think's he will need it - you can PM me or tell me that sort of stuff when I see you next) - can't wait to see it all done! :)
  19. Good luck - hope you can fit in it! Buyers guide is a little out of date but available here: http://wiki.the-corrado.net/the_corrado_buying_guide_checklist.html
  20. Quite easy to move on from the Corrado with one of those mate - right up there on my list of dream cars. Hope you have many enjoyable miles in it.. it looks stunning.

    Corrado MkII?

This Quattro concept has been out for quite a long time. I remember we all agreeing it had a hell of a lot of Corrado about it, especially round the rear 1/3 of the car!

    US Spec Bumper

Pretty sure US bumpers are available from VW Classic Parts. The front certainly is! :) *edit* Yep - here it is :) http://shop.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/vwcp/scirocco-corrado/corrado/karosserie/aussen/corrado-usa-modell-stossfaengerabdeckung-hinten-535807417f-gru.html Lot of money just to delete the tow hook on the rear though.
  23. They should look pretty damn good on the car. Look forward to seeing some pictures!
  24. Was just about to ask the same thing!!
