The prospect of VR6 road tax doubling is worrying. I won't defend the government as I think they're all crooks.. but you only need to look across to our friends in Ireland and see what sorts of road tax prices they're paying - and I think you'll all agree we're not doing too badly. To tax a Corrado VR6 would cost four figures (nearly €1500.... seriously) And forget about free road tax if your car is a new, sub 100g/km CO2 emitter.. you'll still pay €180 for that!!

Just to clarify when I said 'cracks' the protectors are still in perfect shape - they've just got a few small 5p size chips in them where they've been shotgunned by some rocks at motorway speeds :) Otherwise they've held up really well over probably 40,000 miles on a car and aren't heavily pitted / opaque like some headlights get, and still clean up really well.
-
I always wanted one of these - think they look cracking! Good luck with the sale.

Redline MT90 (which I use personally and rate highly) or Silkolene SynTran5 (I think it's called) used to be highly recommended on here.

I'd want to know mileage, service history, etc and overall condition of the three cars. If you do mega miles, I'd consider the BMW. If you don't do mega miles, I'd consider the MK2. Seems like a rather pointless sidestep though if I'm honest as I can't imagine a 1.8 16v is any more expensive to run every day than the Golf or the Jetta other than insurance being fractionally higher.

I had a set of your old ones and they are still going strong years on.. judging by the cracks in them they've saved my headlights from a few boulders over the years. Should imagine they'd be easy enough to sell once you started making them again as no one else seems to make a set currently.

We think it's bad here - the inequality in the states seems to be even worse. I read things week after week that continue to blow my mind.. Like some of the largest fast food companies pay such low wages, the employees have to get state benefit and other low wage programmes just to enable them to live. Whilst those companies continue to post gigantic profits, and the CEO walks home with a $100 million dollar salary. So essentially the government (and therefore the tax payers) pay for the shortfall in salaries that the companies are not paying, so they can make gigantic profits. And of course the CEO's all take advantage of loopholes in the way they pay themselves so that they barely pay any tax. It's insane. Social revolution has to come sooner or later.

Just reading this morning that some changes to road tax are finally afoot. Obviously will enable them to increase the prices more once this happens as it'll seem like less of an expense overall, but I still think it's for the better. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/motoring/motoring-news/paper-tax-discs-for-vehicles-to-be-scrapped-the-chancellor-will-announce-in-autumn-statement-8983765.html The biggest change is the switch to allowing you to pay for the road tax monthly, with direct debit.

Help on a Christmas present for my wife for all those tech people out there

Have to give a second thumbs up for the Nexus 7. Yes, it doesn't have a 10" screen, but it's probably one of the best Android tablets on the market. And being a Google device, it gets the very latest updates as soon as they're launched rather than months later like most other manufacturers. I've got the first gen Nexus 7 and it's great :) -
It was a duff expansion bottle in my case - GSF strikes again. Replaced it with a genuine VAG one and it was fine again. Think the plug wasn't connecting properly because the molding of the connection on the expansion tank bottle wasn't quite right.

LWS Design - Carbon or GRP Tailgate.... Finally
Jim replied to Andrew_LWSDesign's topic in Suppliers Forum
Heh - would love to see a standard ride height Corrado with replacement bonnet, wings, roof and boot - it'd look like a Golf Country 4x4!! :) -

Would love to see how different the Corrado feels with a carbon bonnet and boot, back to back. Nice work - boot looks amazing :) Hope you sell a few to make it worth your time! I'd also imagine that with the weight saving you could probably switch to a single lifting strut on the rear hatch for even further (albeit slight) weight savings. -
Corrado vr6 black bonnet, slam panel and passenger door

Heh - sorry wasn't sure if your Corrado was a daily driver. I'm sure it'll go into something like an A6 estate though :) -
Corrado vr6 black bonnet, slam panel and passenger door
Jim replied to aposegil's topic in Parts for Sale
Just remember - it's not possible to fit a Corrado bonnet actually in a Corrado... -
Very rough mate but hope it helps give you an idea!

Limit car to 2,500PM and 65MPH :)
-
I'll try and remember to do this tonight when I get home, if no-one else has, Mic :)
-
That is shocking, and clearly happens a lot as I've heard countless stories to this effect. Blows my mind that they think they can treat customers cars like this. Hope the guy manages to get it resolved - absolutely shocking.

Only two possibilities really stand out - Guy Hartley and Dave Brunee..
-
Hmm.. cool, well thanks for letting me know.

Did you end up buying Chris Gaskell's old Corrado mate? Can't seem to find out who actually did :|

Plop in a panel filter, and if you want more noise, remove the airbox snorkel :)
-
That's definitely not right - when I clamp my battery terminals on they're not budging anywhere!

I've casually tinkered with changing my car audio in the various Corrado's I've owned over the years, but have always avoided going too hardcore and wiring in amplifiers, etc. Two best things ever were fitting some Infinity Kappa speakers in the dash, instead of the crappy tiny things in there by default.. they didn't really want to fit and I'm ashamed to say I did have to bodge them in by ripping off a bit of the plastic used in the speaker design, but they did sound many orders of magnitude better.. and I suspect someone with some more DIY skills could have implemented them in a nicer, neater way. I'd tried to work out if it was possible to raise the speaker grilles somehow but as usual lost interest. The best other thing was an Infinity Basslink active subwoofer in the boot - you didn't have to have it thumping the bass out, just make the sound much much warmer. This came fitted to my Corrado G60 and it was a brilliant piece of kit - I would like to pick up another some day!

Good luck with it Karl :) Looks like a nice little project to get your teeth into.
