  1. They realised they couldn't call it a Scirocco because the Scirocco had always been an affordable sports coupe. The Corrado development costs, etc were so much higher, that they realised they had to rename it and launch it as a different more premium model - it'd be out of whack with what the Scirocco was. And presumably because they didn't then have an actual replacement for the Scirocco they had to keep selling it for a while longer than they'd imagined. Might explain why they made so many damn variants of the thing - Tropics, Scalas, Storms, etc etc...
  2. Not a bad start to the series... and a nice little piece for the E-Type :) Still looks absolutely stunning, 50 years on!
  3. I'm pretty certain. For several reasons. In terms of positioning it within the brand.. The Scirocco and the Corrado were sort of in the same segment, but the Corrado was more expensive, so a more premium version of the Scirocco. Arguably if VW launched a Corrado, they would have to position it up slightly and that'd be treading squarely onto the toes of the Audi TT.. and I don't think VAG as a group would really want that. In terms of the Corrado itself.. as has been discussed many times, despite acclaim from journalists, the Corrado wasn't THAT popular. They only sold 97,000 Corrado's vs something like 850,000 MK1 & MK2 Scirocco's so was really not that successful though obviously didn't have the same amount of time in production as the MK1 & MK2.. VW don't seem especially proud of the Corrado. Personally would love to see another Corrado - if only for the articles, features (magazine and TV) that would drum up more interest in the "MK1 Corrado" - I think it'd be excellent!
  4. Hey - I've got L691 RLG (a Flash Red 2.0 16v) - they must have been registered pretty much on the same day! :)
  5. Pleased to say the car passed the MOT :) Few little jobs that need doing, that I think just show a VERY thorough tester... but nothing that can't be sorted with an hour or two at DG :)

    LauraJ's VR6

    15" for the win! :)
  7. Looks ridiculous! I'd have an unmolested, well loved VR6 over that in a heartbeat. Really depends what you want from a Corrado though.. that's not my bag at all! Stupid stretch and tyres that are within a micron of rubbing into the arch make me want to go and punch something ;) I appreciate this is a sweeping statement and not true for ALL show cars (e.g. OSV's, etc) but the majority that have had all the money plouged into the external details (paint, alloys, etc) are usually lacking on the proper maintenance that only enthusiasts tend to get down to.. changing bushes, under-side rust treatment / repair, etc etc!
  8. My old MK4 made the "advertised" 53MPG driving to Wales once with two friends in it, and a bootful of camping gear. I was most impressed!
  9. Agreed with Kev. My old MK4 PD TDI (115BHP) sounded fine and normal and then I had to have a replacement exhaust downpipe. The VW one was EXTORTIONATE so got a Milltek one fitted. Worked fine but the side effect was that the turbo was louder.. especially at idle, you'd hear it whilstling quite noticably! Car seemed fine.. drove fine for months after so... dont necessarily assume the turbo is toast :)
  10. Nice one guys - glad it helped you out :)

    LauraJ's VR6

I can't say enough for keeping a VR6 standard.. they are so nice and refined with just enough of a growl to know they're a bit meatier than their 4 cylinder cousin :) But if you're interested in a BMC induction kit, someone I know has one and might be willing to part with it.. barely been used at all! If you're after one let me know and I can ask!
  12. Really need to ring around when I finally get the red car sold and the green stuck on a classic policy! I'm paying far too much all round on my insurance at the minute I think!!
  13. I'm crossing my fingers and toes for you Yan! :)
  14. I use Firefox at work and Chrome at home and simply haven't had any of these problems at all that people are intermittently experiencing! :(
  15. I normally use Chrome too but just switched to IE8 and the Quick Reply field is working just fine for me.. as you can see! :)
  16. Great news Kip... can't wait to see this beauty back on the road again! So glad it got saved and not written off!
  17. Which Corrado is it you've got? If it's a 16v, then it's not uncommon for the belt tension to need adjusting - and a horrid squealing noise like how you describe is the symptom of a slack belt :)
  18. Disappointing. Hopefully Darren or someone from G-Werks can read this and give you an appropriate update.
  19. Hah! Didn't know you were buying Andy's old car, Laura... great to hear! Hopefully will see it around Kenilworth sometimes :) And great news on getting a Storm Andy... nice one mate!
  20. Great - look forward to hearing it.
