Nice colour :) Try unplugging the MAF while it's running - if there's no change, there's the problem. Sounds more mechanical to me though? Stone

Found this rather sad example after accidentally going to the wrong scrapyard for some Audi handles  Looks like something hit it hard on the nearside and punted into something solid on the offside... Stu and I had a whole bunch of parts out of it but very little from the engine bay. If you can see it in this pic it's still there... Things that are definitely gone/knackered: Spoiler control module Both doors unusable Front splitter cracked Dashboard hacked up Door cards both smashed Driver's door handle missing - passenger's poorly colour-coded but usable Side rubbing strips mangled Rear bumper cracked Gearstick gaiter + knob Steering column Window mechs Offside headlamp Front fogs + indicators Rear inner light clusters All trim clips, binnacle screw covers etc gone Sunroof motor + switch Parcel shelf Still there: Roof mouldings - unknown condition, there's a Mk2 Golf on top... Nearside headlamp Slam panel Front bumper Outer rear lights Good tailgate with glass and spoiler Cloth interior in reasonable nick Clocks - excellent condition, showing 125k approx Front wings (looked ok) Sunroof motor cover Sunroof (under the Golf somewhere...) Engine + gearbox Big lumps of dash, undertrays etc Wiring looms Central locking pump Fusebox Miraculously, both front windows! Steering wheel (poor condition, leather) Two excellent wing mirrors with wiring looms Stu and I intend to return on Friday to get the quarter glasses, roof mouldings and sunroof (maybe the hatch) - let one of us know before then if there's anything you'd like us to look out for and we'll see what we can do :) Same yard also has an automatic Mk3 VR6 with aircon (2.8 though, obviously, and the Climatronic panel's gone) and tons of A4s and A6s to get door handles off so if there's anything left when we get back I'll post up the location :) Stone

BK Racing BK166 17" wheels and tyres - Harpenden, Herts
Stonejag replied to Stonejag's topic in Parts for Sale
Still got these kicking around. Would consider a straight swap for any 16" 5x100 wheels with tyres - let me know what you have. Stone -
I'm in for the Pod :D You racing? Tempted to see how it compares to others...

I hated the ride quality on 17s, 205/45/16 all the way!

I'd be interested if a GB goes ahead. Should probably learn more about how the head all goes together so a top end rebuild would be a good challenge :) Stone

VR6 HT Lead removal tool - metal one please if poss...
Stonejag replied to larceny fink's topic in Wanted
If you know anyone with one you could borrow as a pattern, you can make your own out of standard copper heating pipe. Roger B let me borrow his so I knocked this one out with a couple of hours Dremel work and some loom tape: Works fine (better than original, I made the slots deeper so it's easier to hook onto the plug) and cheap as chips :) Do keep an HT lead handy so you can test-fit often and you'll be fine! Stone -
That's kinda irrelevant for cheap kits though - my JOM set is marketed as fitting a Mk3, Leon, Polo, etc etc, they fit the mounts but the spring rate is all wrong because they tuned it for an average of all the cars it fits, not a nose-heavy VR6! They're fine if you can cope with the comedy 'sproing' noises it makes on spirited cornering  Stone

On one of my last scrappy missions I scrounged a coilpack out of a 3.3l V6 Chrysler (think it was a Grand Voyager) - it's a GM one though so you can't use the standard lead ends. Not really worried as it cost me the grand sum of £0 :D When I have a mo I'm planning to swap the VW ICM for a Bosch standalone one - should be much more robust, the only reason for keeping the VW one is so you can retain the connector... My engine's sounding *much* happier with the inlet and PCV pipework sorted out, so with new plugs and coilpack it should feel even better! Stone

Did it fit OK in the end? Mine needs doing but not sure whether to swap for a moonroof or just fix the mech...

Harness is 'Kabelbaum'. Didn't know you could get G60 autos, good on you for not giving in and driving a boring car :D Stone [auto-lover]

If they're just going to vandalise whatever you're driving why spend £10k on the next target? You'd be better off investing £500 in CCTV kit and making friends with whoever's property overlooks your parking space IMO. Rent a decoy car and a garage for the GTR in the meantime? You don't need 360º coverage, just something looking out of the driver's side window. That plus something building-mounted to back it up from outside should get you some nice, usable footage. If they're consistently targeting you and not bright enough to stop after the first couple of times then take advantage! Stone

Don't drop it too far! I had horrible rubbing problems on mine when I got it - ended up raising it ~40mm and swapping from 215/40/17s to 195/45/16s which made a huge difference to ride quality as well. Stone

Starting trouble VR6, maybe fuel pump relay or crank sensor?
Stonejag replied to rickdonald's topic in Engine Bay
Unlikely if it cranks, but check the battery voltage. Trying to start the other day with a (very!) flat battery caused mad clicking from my fusebox - there weren't enough beans left to run the fuel pump, so the battery voltage sagged and turned the pump off, which let the voltage recover and so on... Trying to remove ISV but big star bit in the way
Stonejag replied to boredpilot's topic in Engine Bay
It's a twelve-point trisquare bit, aka a spline bit - not a Torx! I'm pretty sure you need an M8 one but you may as well get a small set to keep in the car - if you ever need to get the covers off at the side of the road you'll kick yourself of you don't have any. Don't force an Allen key into it - you may get it out once or twice but if you chew the bolts up they're a real pain to remove - and the female ones are £4ish each to replace... Stone -
Top man, cheers :) In my defence that's the first time it's been posted here...

They're self-adhesive. Warm the glue as you peel them off and try not to bend them or they'll not go back on straight.
-
Sorry for the brief hijack - do you have a part # and description for item 6 in that pic? I definitely need both front sections but not sure about the inner bit... Thanks!

Gearbox is looking OK (fingers crossed) so I'll do my best to be there :) Could use replumbing again but I'll see how much skin is left on my knuckles... My ex is round this weekend so I'll see if I can get her to bring the Mk1 cabby :)

Did you drain the coolant or just do a quick swap? Mine's been sat in the glovebox for the last couple of weeks, I only just got all the air out of the system so can't really face doing it again  I particularly hate the bit where it wees it out down your arm... Stone

My slam panel is really wonky and I have a few jobs lined up so I'd like to get a new one in when I have the front of the car off. Anybody got a decent one kicking about without too much rust? Blackberry would be preferable (so it looks halfway presentable before the respray!) but if not I can get it blasted. I'm also after a USA spec front bumper - I just need the plastic skin and rough/damaged ones may well be OK for what I want. Give me a try with what you've got :) Engine plastics: Only one is damaged (the rear one, #021133918 ) but they've all seen better days so I'd accept a set if it's solid - can always give it some paint. My carbon canister valve is damaged - #034133517, as pictured. Anyone have a spare? A plastic rocker cover would be nice to finish the top of my engine off. I can collect from a fair way away and sort out couriers for bigger stuff so shout if you have anything :thumbleft: Stone

It runs the aux water pump as well. £35 when I got one a couple of weeks back.
