    vr midrange?

My gearbox stands me at around £3000, but it is a vr6 syncro one, with a Gemini 6 smeed kit, custom 6th, 3.94 final drive, Peloquin torque biasing diff, and of course, the all important transfer box for the 4wd, all fully rebuilt with new seals and bearings by stealth racing last year. I've only ran it in 2WD so far, in a mk2 golf (I actually built the car PURELY to try out the gearbox!!). I just can't describe how good it is. I mean, the car had a virtually standard 2.9 VR6 lump in it, but runs 13.75 1/4 miles. For a car with onlty 200BHP that's f*cking quick, and it's all down to the gearbox. I've done 3 trackdays too. Managing a 3rd place at my only my 2nd ever go (at the clubgti national day at Kames) and also managed to set 4th fasted lap at curborough a few months back (see this months The Golf mag). It actually got me thinking that I didn't need 4WD!! the grip available when powering through corners has to be experienced to be believed. Trust me, the VR is not lacking in power, it's lacking in grip, and the gear ratios are just too long (especially when you fit 17" wheels). it's even worse in the golf VR6 with it's 3.3 final drive. It's only a psychological block that stops most peopl spending money on the gearbox. If I said a supercharger kit was £3000 you'd probably say that's cheap? ll becasue it gives you an over inflated power figure to tel your mates down the pub...... To quote a well known advertising phrase "power is nothing without control"
  2. Makes my so happy to know mine will look almost as good as that with a new set of rims on it. Sweet C you got there.

    b4stard boot lock

It wouldn't work off the lock OR the CL at the time, but it does now!!!?!?!??
  4. never mind the description being dodgy! a little story for you. My mate buys a corrado vr6 off an asian guy from birmingham. It has a full grey leather recaro trim. very rare wouldn't you say? he has the car literally 3 weeks, and it disappears off his drive overnight. now, he lives in a very remote area, and has 2 dogs too, no one heard or saw anything. his house is REALLY hard to find unless you know exactly where it is. anyway, it dissappears, which means someone had a key for it (the previous owner no doubt....). then, after a few months, when all is appraently quiet, another h grey heated leather trim comes up for sale, in birmingham, by a zero rated bidder with a blatantly asian user name? coincidence? you decide.....

    vr midrange?

I think that's been pretty comprehensively answered. there has not been a sinlge case of anyone reporting any side effects from fitting lightened crank components in a VR6 to my knowledge. the stadard corrado gearbox is 3.66:1 final drive, changing it to the closer 3.94 makes the gears shorter, thus, the engine turns the wheels more easily (effectivley, you get more torque to the wheels as the engine has a greater mechanical advantage). it alos means 4th gear is much more useable. what's the point in being able to got to110mph and still have 2 gears spare? you'll run out of track on most circuits, and if you do it on a road you're just gogint o get banned. 0-100mph is where it's at. mine is geared to do 115@7000rpm in 5th, with an overdrive 0.71:1 6th gear for cruising. as kev says,, acceleration is relentless, it pulls in 4th as well as it used to in 2nd, feels like it has another 50bhp at least. I reccomend gearbox tuning far more than engine tuning. well, just do the gearbox, THEN do the engine :-)

    b4stard boot lock

the rubber o ring has fell out too.
  7. went to ASDA the other day. bought £90 worth of shopping (like, 10 bags full), gets back to the car, f*cking boot won't open. so, I'm struggling with the key, managed to bend it, had to put all the shopping in through the drivers door, then couldn't start the car due to the bent key!! got it straight, went home, boot still locked, took all the shopping out through the door again, tried the boot 5 mintues later and it opened!!!! b4stard car. happy new year BTW... :D

    vr midrange?

If you think the VR6 feels lazy treat it to a Schrick VGI and a TURN2USA crank pulley. it'll pick up a hell of alot sharper then. Best thing I ever bought was the 3.94 final drive, it makes the car feel much lighter.

    G60 Boost gauge

    where have you connected it?
  10. Engine mounts (front one is suspected) or wishbone bushes.
  11. My mate has the 18" split rim ones on his mk4. Not keen on them at all myself..
  12. No, I've got a VR6 as well, 2 actually, just not in a Corrado.....yet . Why waste £6000 on a Corrado VR6 when I can get an 8v for half the price and fit the VR6 myself? who need traction control when you've got 4wd.... :D I got the hubs sorted, I just got some mk3 ones, which are indeed bolted on with 3 countersunk bolts. F*ck knows how those mk4 ones are held together, they don't fit anyway.
  13. no, the opposite. I'm going from 4 to 5 stud. I wanted the hubs all new looking, frshly painted with new bearings beofre I fitted them, but now my plans are ruined.... :( :x
  14. I was using mk4 hubs (I had some nearly new ones), but it turns out the ABS ring hits the corrado carrier. b4stard  I was hoping to swap the corrado ABS ring over tot he mk4, but on the mk4 hubs it looks like the ABS ring isn't meant to be detatched.
  15. easy. the secondary one is electric, it sits just behind the coilpack, near the main engine loom connector on the rear right hand corner of the engine.
  16. I know. but in what way? what's holding them together?
  17. all I can see are a couple of dints. are they welded on or what? I've tried to have some mk4 hubs fitted (as they were like new) but the ABS ring fouls my carriers. I'm going to have a nightmare trying to get some more hubs ready by tonight.....
  18. there a Golf VR6 syncro on there too. the guy reckons it's a 3.2 with 236BHP and it was done like that from the factory.....yeah, righty ho. :x
  19. you can grind down the old outer bearing race and use that as a collar to press them in. that's how I do rear bearings anyway.
  20. I'm halfway through making an arch rolling tool. I'm only in York too. I'll let you know when it's done.
  21. I can't believe anyone actually pays extra on therie insurance because of an air filter or an exhaust. what a load of sh1t. I wouldn't dream of giving companies like that my cash.
  22. I've snapped the end off a GTI from CV joint.......then again, I was drag racing with slicks on with a 207BHP VR6 engine!
  23. what about the hub nut?
