It's a thermostaically controlled fan switch.
  2. Don't run anything down the driver side, that's where the car loom is.
  3. Blue igniters are sh1te. I know 2 people who've had them on the VR6 and one lad with a G60 and they've caused nothing but trouble. They are poorly made too and fall to bits unless you treat them with kid gloves. Genuine VAG all the way.
  4. it's easy to tell one you teach yourself what to look for look at the top of the arch, where the horizontal bit joins the wing. if it's got a distinct horizontal area about 6-8mm wide then it's an early one, if it's not as well defined and seems to blend into the upper part of the wing more, then it's a late one. this is a late one, not how the "flat" bit between the arch bulge and the wing is about 12mm wide all the way round.
  5. Mine had the oringinal VAG ones on, took them off at 66K, they were still as good as new.
  6. Yep, ebay. earlier in the year. They were proffessionally polished by Rainbow Polishers in West Brom I was told. I used the tyres, bought another set of wheels for £170, that had brand new michelin pilots on them, put the michelins on the speedlines, and now I'll be tidying up the other wheels and selling them for more that I paid for the whole lot! bargain. :D i had these wheels for sale at GTI International, and no one would give me £150 for them! madness, they cost more that that to polish!
  7. mine, all mine :D can't wait to get the 5 stud hubs on.
  8. Take out the passenger seat. run the power cable straight down the chassis leg and through the bulkhed and right down the passenger sill. run signal and speaker wires doen the passenger side of the tunnel, which you can do by lifting up the carpet once the seat is out. That way, all the wires are running in a straight line, neat, and tidy, no messing about. I've always done my cars like this, and never get any problems with interference. fuse the power lead within 12" of the battery, and earth the amp within 12" if you can too to bare metal.
  9. I paid £200 to have my mk2 done 5 years ago! the paint alone was £500.
  10. 274bhp!! what else have you done to it? most of the ones I've seen struggle to put out 250.
  11. I've never had to buy a new CV joint so I couldn't comment, I always have spares lying around. Saying that, I have sheared the threded end off one using slicks at Santa Pod!
  12. Do you get any knocking? Check the wishbone bolts, I've had one come loose before. What have they set your geometry to? if they can't tell you, get them to measure it. You want figures.

I thought I'd seen that pic before.

    throttle cable

    LOL! nice one
  15. Be aware that foam filters don't filter very well. I took off mine the other day, only to find the mesh on the AFM full of bits of tree and other associated debris! :(
  16. My old 6 speed mk2 could beat any time set by any supercharged VR6 I've ever seen set in this country. If you do't intend to keep the car for long, it's a good mod to give a bit of temporary poke, which you can them remove before you sell the car. but if it's going to be a long term thing, then do some research, and you'll see they aren't too reliable.

For any of you with a VR6 I recommend the handbook for the engine by Peter Russek or Russek publications. I'll dig out the ISBN umber of it for you. only £6, and it tells you how to do a full strip down and rebuild. until then, try reading the FAQ section at the top of the 12v VR6 forum, in the technical section of the http://www.vwvortex.com forums, you'll learn a lot about your car. Hell, I knew nothing about the VR6 4 years ago. I've since fitted at least 5, and stripped 2 down, done cam swaps, chains, and all sorts, with no formal mechanic training whatsever.

Why do you people take your cars to the dealers??? they are just rebodied golfs, they are p1ss easy to fix you know. :?
  22. I paid £236 for my mk2 VR6, transferred it to the 8v corrado and they wanted £50.75 more!! for a car with half the power, valued at £500 less! I told to go and f*ck, still had to pay £25 administration costs for swapping it in the end. b4stards.
