    gear ratios

get the code of your gearbox, on the top, and look it up on http://www.kraftwerks. com or something like that. then have a play with http://www.johmaherracing.com/gearcalc.htm and see what you need to change it to and then check on etka to see whoch gears to buy. 5th can be changed without removing the gearbox.
  4. well, insurance companies ain't stupid, so they wouldn't have paid out £13K for it if it was only woth £8K...... looks like I'll have to keep it and sell the corrado instead then, any offers? actually, I'm glad it'll put sellers off, because I f*cking HATE selling cars and having to put up with all the tyre kicking tossers who you get hassling you, so hopefully it'll stop all those sort of dickheads ringing up in the first place. even if I break even on it I'll be happy, it'll be a free car for 6 months
  5. yes it was from simpsons. it's on a cat D, but not stolen or crash damaged so I can't see why that would put anyone off ? it's worth £10K all day long, cat d or not. the insurance just paid out £13K for it!!! as for sensible money, I've only seen one on the autotrader when i looked last week for under £10K, and it was on a W, and had 104K on the clock.........
  6. Are you going off the MFA reading? jay, you won't be running the same size wheels/tyres as a mk4 surely? so the speedo will be out of calibration, and thus, so will the MPG indicator. and you can't even work it out as you still don't really know how many miles you are REALLY doing (i.e. your wheels are too small, so you're not actually going as far as your speedo thinks you are, therefore you mpg is probably crap). no idea what mine does. manges about 230 miles on a tank full, but a syncro tank is only about 50 litres I think? manged to get 130 miles out of a tank, to donnington, round the track for 20 mins, and them it was empty! (but the hole melted int he side of it might have contributed to that). I'll let you know what my 4 motion does when I get it on the road.
  7. not exactly nothing, but put it this way, I think i'll easily make £3000 on it. not bad pay for an engine swap I think! I'm hoping I come into some money in the next 6 months so I can afford to keep it, it's perfect for a daily car (I only work 5 miles away so fuel consumption doesn't bother me). Might have to convince the missus to sell the Lupo and keep this instead. It's basically top spec, fully loaded, my mate reckons it would have been £26K new!!! I got a receipt with it to say that the insurance just paid out £13000 for it to clear the finance.
  8. I find the best way to remove those seized allen bolts is to heat them up with a blowtorch then hammer i the next size up spline bit. they come out then. or, if you have a welding set, weld a 17mm nut on the head of the bolt. the heat releases the thread and the nut give you something to grip. thing is, they are meant to be tight...I've had one come out on my golf, didn't thread lock it in (you're meant to use new bolts with thread lock when you replace them). the caliper came off, ripped a chunk out of the disc, snapped the brake hose and the handbrake cable, punched a dent in the wheel and bent the rear strut like a banana. cost me £700 to fix the car and £360 for the breakdown recovery as I wasn't in the AA or RAC. never again....
  9. Bloody VW's, it's a disease!! Corrado has to come off the road for more work, and I'm struggling to get to work (a combination of lifts and mountain bikes that keep falling to peices). I don't want to drive it again until it's 100% finished becasue I'm begining to hate the car, which isn't good. so, yesterday I bought myself a nice '51 plate golf V6 4 motion. black (not mettallic unfortunatley) Black Recaro Leather walnut dash trim. (eeeurgh) Nokia DSP sound system and 6 disc changer. Sunroof and climatronic 17" santa monicas 43K on the clock. downsides being a: it's a 5 door b: the sump is cracked so the bottom is knackered c: it's a 5 door d it's got more than 3 doors. e: need a new passenger rear door. f: it's on a CAT, got written off due to the engine damage g: the front doors are too small and it has these funny extra flaps in the rear quarters. to enable you to acess the rear seats. praise the lord for 0% credit cards!! I'll run it through the winter whilst I'm finishing off the corrado and playing with my motorbike, then it'll be forced with the decision of whether to sell it or sell the corrado. shouldn't be too hard. if it was a 3 door I'd think about keeping it for the daily hack. can't afford to keep them both unfortuatley. If i decide I still don't like the corrado, then I'll be swapping the engines over and selling the corrado witht he 2.8 in it and keeping the sleeper R32 mk4. I think I'll stick the R32 suspension on it too, possibly the brakes if I can't find a buyer for them soon. and maybe even the R32 wheels too. what do you reckon to those in black on a lowered black mk4 with huge brakes? what are they worth these days? I could only find one on autotrader under 10K, and it wasn't this spec or this new. I've bought it to fix and sell on so I'm hoping it's going to be worth at least £10K? I'm am officially the UK's 24v engine whore. I have 4 of them now!
  10. that could be because they are fiat coupe lights........ IIRC isn't this car a supercharged VR6? it's had quite a lot of money thrown at it over the years, it's been in PVW too.
  11. ok, prices coming soon. I'll get in touch with my US contact and see what he can do. Register your Group buy interest on this trahed please. Lee you WILL need one if you're going turbo, I can just imagine it now, boost coming on mid corner.....ouch.
  12. yeah should be able to see you off with an 80% map at the mo, when and where   hehehe, my vw motorsport 6 speed and peloquin will be more than a match for the hp defecit. mind you, you have a secret weapon up your sleeve, a smoke screen!! are you sure you could man a 20 minute track session? your fuel tank isn't big enough! :)
  13. I can import from the states. fancy a group buy? yes, I run one in mine. I'd alreasy bought a quaife, but then decided to go for 4wd, and waufie wouldn't do me a diff witht he reqired splines to run the transfer box, so I had to sell it, unused, at a £100 loss and buy a peloquin direct fron Gary Peloquin in the states. Without a doubt the best thing I have ever bought for the car, absolutley amazing peice of kit, you NEED one, the VR should have come from the factory with one. you will not belive the difference one of these makes to the handling of your car. check out my donnington vid and just look at the way I can drive around the OUTSIDE of cars on corners, the grip coming out of bends is just unreal, you'd swear that the car isn't FWD anymore. If you buy a supercharger instead of one of these you're a bell end. spend you money where the car need it, grip not horsepower.
  14. AGC has a 3.94 final drive, found on 1.6 passats.

    VR6 Cams etc

I had 268's, not schricks, but Piper regrinds from Grant Motorsport. They gave a remarkable increase in grunt about 4500rpm. I managed to hit 207bhp with a stock 8v exhaust! you can go for 276's too, but you'll need flat section valve springs to cope with the extra lift. If you are thinking about supercharging, leave the cams stock for now, and get some Schrick 248sc's when you get the charger kit. Numerous threads on vwvortex have proved that the 268's are the best "all round" performer and do not affect the mid or low range running. Schrick are reported to be the best, but they are strong money, have a word with design dubs, matt and the boys know the Vr6 very well, he could sell you the schricks and do any of the work you mentioned.
  16. lol! right on chris. the "hills" thing is a load of old toss, from Gran Turismo....... The only problem I have with my 6lb Fidanza alloy flywheel is that it requires a few more revs to pull away, but I think that's mainly caused by the DBW as it wasn't as bad with the VR, the DBW doesn't know I'm trying to pull away so it robs me of revs, frustarting, but I'm sure it'll be better with the switch installed. If you're takingthe box off for any reason, yes, do the flywheel. if you just fancy doing it for the sake of it, don't bother, buy a lighter crank pulley instead, and do the flywheel when the clutch needs changing.
  17. nah, I've already told chris his car will be load of shite on a track ;-)
  18. balls, I'd have been up for that, but my car is broken :-(
  19. good lad!! ( I have an r32 gearbox, prop and haldex diff. and a syncro back axle and floorpan too..........) and a vr6 sycnro exhaust for that matter.
  20. I have chromolux windows, anyone else got these?
  21. happy with yours? yes! mine, hmm, I guess so, but it still needs more work. then agin, I've done the total opposite to you, I wanted mine to be as "corrado" as possible, not mk4, so I've kept the corrado clocks and ABS, rad, fans, things like that. trying to make it look as factory as possible. time to iron out all the niggles now and tidy it up for good. turbo will be fun, but not with 2wd, I think you'll make it undriveable.
  22. Nice one Jay. was it all worth it? it's ure looks good, and no doubt sounds incredible, but are you happy with the finished results? anything you'd change or do different given the benefit of hindsight?
  23. not now, it's off the road. download the curborough vid on page 12 (I think) of thos thread and you'll get an idea.
