From memory - the certificate is issued individually for each alarm instalation - it details fitment date, who fitted it, what dealer it was at etc. etc. I'll deffo dig mine (well, the previous owner's! as I haven't yet got my arse into gear and updated it yet ... ) out tonight and scan it...

The OE Scorpion fob looks like the attached pic. I've got the Thatcham certificate of conformity for my OE fit alarm, and all the instruction books etc. - I'll dig them out tonight if you want any info from them? You can write to Scorpion if you know the approx. original fitting date/Alarm serial no. etc. and get them to re-issue the certificate to the present owner.

I'm pretty sure I saw this fault last week when I was "testing" my MAF (disconnecting/re-connecting it with the engine running) - it may just be a dodgy connection... I'd get the wiring thoroughly checked before forking out for another MAF

Or more commonly the interested party is a foreigner in this country, ("Asylum Seeker" etc.) citing the fact that all their funds are overseas as a reson for using wire transfer. They then pay a dodgy cheque into your account, telling you that they've done a wire transfer. The scam is that if you're not savvy enough to check for cleared funds, most punters just see their balance go up by the agreed amount and think that as its supposedly a wire transfer it's safe. Then you part with the keys etc. only to be greeted by a letter from your bank 7 to 10 days later telling you that a cheque has bounced - giving Mr Dodgy long a time to vanish in...

Spoilt the photos a bit though didn't it ;-)

The bonnet earth is only for EMI/EMC compliance - if you can be arsed put it back on, but it's not major!
-
Intermittently intermittent - sometimes turning engine off/on will clear it, sometimes not... sometimes goes weeks without lighting, then it's every day....

The rear connectors come into the car under the rear-seat "bucket bits" (for want of a better expression :-) ) i.e. the bit your bum sits on, not the backs . AKAICR they just clip down so a quick sharp tug upwards should lift them up! Just VAG-COM'd my ABS fault and it's 00793 Brake Pedal Position sensor - anyone know where that lives? On the brake pedal or on the ABS block? (just too lazy to get ETKA out at the moment... :-) )
-
I think this calls for a mobile VAG-COM service - how much would people pay for a call out??? :?: :?: :?: Liverpool to Oxford might cost me a bit though in Petrol.... ;-)
-
The hot wire type MAF's burn off time is only one second -- I defy anyone to turn off the engine and then disconnect the battery within one second :-) ... Not sure how the hot-film ones behave though ???
-
It really is MAF month this month so far isn't it :-) I think the conclusive answer is that your MAF might be OK, or it might not! Best to get VAG-COM, clear the DTCs (cos you''ll have thrown some disconnecting MAF/OXS etc.) or just reset the ECU if VAG-COM isn't available, drive the car for a few hours/days and then get the ECU diagnosed and start from there :-) Sorry can't be more helpful ;-)

I've never heard my ABS pump either - and so far (touch wood :-) ) it'sbeen OK... like yours the only noise I can hear under the bonnet when turning on the ign is the Aux coolant pump. According to the Bentley Manual the system gives the ABS pump up to 60 seconds to come up to pressure before throwing an error... is this how long yours takes?

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&ie ... arch&meta= And I think it's either the Corrado Club of America or Canada website that tells you how to connect up the test lamp etc. if you don't know how to do it...

At the front, and some passat underpinnings at the back !!! But the point is that the Golf, in whichever Mk1/2/3/4/Seat/Skoda/Audi guise, is designed as a jack of all trades car - shopping trolley/family runabout etc. and so there's some compromises made when trying to turn it into its sporting variants R32/Cupra R etc The Corrado was designed from the start to be a sports coupe :-) :-)

Could also be the OE immobiliser, but your best bet it get VAG-COM or similar hooked up & have a look for error codes. Whereabouts in Manchester are you? (If you're free on Sunday 18th I'll be at the Dubsport Rolling Road day (near Wigan) with my laptop & VAG-COM so could have a look if you fancy a ride out... see the thread in the "General Car Chat" forum)

Vacuum or servo assist helps by reducing the amount of effort you have to apply to the pedal to produce a given amount of effort at the calipers. This has nothing whatsoever to do with ABS. The ABS pump produces a pressurised reservoir of brake fluid that it uses to apply the brakes when it decides to take control away from the driver, because a wheel is locked/about to lock. The ABS brain uses a system of valves to allow the pressure from the brake pedal/master cylinder through to the calipers if it decides that all wheels are OK. The instant it detects a wheel locking up it switches a valve which reduces the brake fluid pressure to that wheel by switching in a reduced pressure from its reservoir. This reduced pressure allows some braking effort to get through, but releases the brakes enough to get the wheel spinning again. The ABS brain switches this in & out several times a second as long as you maintain pressure on the pedal and the affected wheels are locking up, hence the buzzing or vibrating you can feel through the pedal... Hope that helps... :-) have a look at http://www.ukcar.com/features/tech/traction/ABS1.htm for some background info...

Interesting you should mention Oil based air filters, but I've only had some MAF-like rough running probs since I fitted a K&N panel filter to my VR a couple of weeks ago - but mine's got the later type hot film MAF and later M2.91 ECU with integrated immobiliser... :? :? Disconnecting it & re-connecting the MAF with the engine idling produces the only slightest shudder :?

I've discovered that the later VR6 ECUs are Motronic 2.91 (where the earlier ones are M2.8 or M2.9 ???) , and have the OE immobiliser closely integrated with them, is it just these later ECUs that use the hot film MAS? Quote from a website I found selling ECUs/MAS etc... ================================================================== BOSCH ECU == Corrado VR6 2.9 litre (ABV) == '94 on Bosch Motronic 2.91 -- 0 261 203 564 -- 021 906 258 CP (XEBM3564) with Immobiliser Function. These ECU`s operate as part of the vehicle's immobiliser or alarm system. In many instances they contain a code which will prevent the vehicle from starting unless activated by the vehicle's security or central locking system. In many instances it will be necesary to 'program' a replacement ECU and there may be some restrictions on testing coded ECU`s. If in doubt, refer to the vehicle manufacture`s workshop manual. All replacement ATP parts with immobiliser functions are supplied with an information sheet which should be read carefully before installing the replacement ECU. =====================================================================

ECU reset needed after K&N panel filter fitted?
stormseeker replied to stormseeker's topic in Engine Bay
You'd need some sort of locking switch/lock-out mechanism to stop "inadvertent mis-operation" !!! Maybe not dash mounted - how about under the cubby hole/box near the fuse box? -
That'd be some moped!

I think you've just discovered your next mod.... :-) -
Wasn't entirely serious about suggesing the sunroof'd been welded :-) Does the interior have no sunroof aperture also? Either way, sounds like the dodgiest C I've ever heard of...
-
Don't think you could get them, even as an option on UK spec. cars - North America (US & Canadian) is the only market I know of that had 'em...

MPG doesnt match actual fuel consuption,a little help please
stormseeker replied to jedi-knight83's topic in Archive
Fuel tank capacity is 70 litres so you'd have had another 12 litres (just under 3 gallons !!!) left :-) -
If it's the dodgy one from the other thread maybe the sunroof has been welded up & smoothed to help with the "Major Structural Damage" it's had.... :-) ;-)
