  1. Going by the gauge? They can be quite inaccurate and even when showing below empty you can still have a good few litres left. How many litres/gallons do you get in to fill it back up to the top?
  2. Look two threads up "Quick guide to Storms" ;-)
  3. Answering my own question - I don't think it's needed as the ECU will just meter (allegedly) more air going in. Does anyone reckon an ECU reset is really necessary?
  4. Start gathering evidence now from Autotrader etc. as to likely costs to you to replace the car - when mine was nearly written off back last Oct (see this thread) their first offer was £4800 from Glass's/Parker guide and was just a joke. With a little persuasion I soon talked them up to £6k. But then I was able to chose to have the cash (minus hefty excess) or to have the car repaired - I chose the repair and so far (touch wood!) I'm glad I did. Good Luck!
  5. I sold a (sent free to me by those lovely VW marketing people) VW Phaeton W12 promotional book (brochure really) on ebay to someone in the states for £12 - they love it :D  nice bit of beer money...
  6. Just idly reading the Bentley Manual (maybe this should have been a reply to Bally's "BORED" thread :-) ) and it states that a fault in the EDL/EDS system will cause the ABS brain to disable the TC function - BUT NOT LIGHT THE ABS LIGHT. SO it might just be de-activated - unless VAG-COM shows no faults. But even when it is working - you'd never know...
  7. A fault in the EDL/EDS ("Traction Control") will cause the ABS brain to disable the TC function - BUT NOT LIGHT THE ABS LIGHT (according to Bentley). So unless you've checked with VAG-COM, the TC might possibly be disabled. Having said all that - the fact still remains that even on a car with a fully working system you'd be hard pressed to notice its effects...
  8. Just discovered tthat VAG-COM can talk to my OE immobiliser - cool! Now I need to read the VAG-COM manual to find out it can help me with my switchblade project at all :-)

    vr6 probs...

3 sensors on the VR are for ECU, temp gauge and fan control
  10. Look in this this thread - try a Ford Dealer and get the part from a Galaxy V6 (uses the VW VR6 engine) - save yourself mega pounds apparently...
  11. Mine's LED - and now it's gone completely hatstand! The middle thrid is completely out, the two outer thirds, comprising of 4 or 5 LEDs each, light, but each LED at a different (Random!) brightness. Methinks it's full of dry joints or something... it's days are numbered :-) I too can see a trip to Maplins in the near future...
  12. Hmmm about 70quid - I'll stick with a 2nd hand one for a tenner :-) for the time being and try to hack the immobiliser chip into it :-) Good to know the part nos. and AH profile ones actually exist though!
  13. New ones will be - but they're megapounds from VW. Buy an old second hand one and throw away the the actual keyblade, replace it with your modified Corrado one...
  14. Do a quick search on ebay (include the US site) Kev, a lot of the ads have the part nos. in them. The one I got was HLO 1J0 959 753 AM - a very recent Passat one I think. there's no way the electronics from my current alarm fob are going to fit in the SB - there's about a third of the space, and NO room for the GP23 12V battery!
  15. Just found a Yahoo e-group all about VAG-COM, and from a question posted on there: Travis wrote: > > I am trying to communicate to my Digifant ECU in my 1992 > VW Corrado G60. Most G60 ECU's do not support "Rapid Data Transfer". Therefore they cannot communicate with VAG-COM, or a VAG-1552, or a VAS-5051, or a VAS-5052. Only the VAG-1551 supports this mode, but it gives you no more information that you can get by using a test-lamp and counting the blinks youself. -Uwe-
  16. Driving in to work tonight, a thought struck me - (as I was just daydreaming about supercharging my VR ;-) ) I always thought that servo assistance on brakes worked on the inlet manifold vacuum - but on a forced induction engine, don't you have positive (i.e. greater than atmospheric) pressure in the manifold? Does the servo work the same? Or is it just wired differently?
  17. Anyone made their own switchblade key and got it to work with an OE immobiliser? I've got meself and old switchblade for a tenner (doncha just love ebay.com :-) ) but my VR's got the factory fit immobiliser that uses the chip in the (old) AH profile key. As I doubt that the switchblade key will have a chip that I can simply programme to work my C's immob, I reckon I'll have to hack the chip out of an old C key and fit it in the new one. Anyone already done it???
  18. Looking good Kev - as ever !!! :-) What resistor values are you playing with - the standard ones in the Hella unit? I fitted a Hella one to my C about 6 months back (just stuck to the inside of the taligate glass - not as neat as yours!) but the middle third has stopped working :-( - your mod might give me the incentive to rip it out, fix it and put it back in a bit neater ;-)
  19. Look a bit like an updated & 8 spoke version of the storm bbs solitudes... Where d'you find 'em? :)
  20. Nice Kettle & Leatherman (or is it a Gerber???) .... :D :) :D :)
  21. Don't get too excited - you might already have the higher wattage bulb... but any excuse to chat up a fit girlie eh? :-)
  22. where's it been ... ??? :?: :?: :?:
  23. No, it's a single bulb system - make sure you've got the highest wattage bulb you can get in the centre dial - you can get different wattages for this type of bulb - I bought a higher wattage one from Halfords and it brightened up the illumination to almost acceptable :-)

    squeaky breaks

fix it? (sorry - couldn't resist - pun on your mispelling of brakes ;-) )
  25. If anyone is bothered with the original plastic one, part number is (HYC2) 021 012 213
