I'd agree that they look better, but I certainly wouldn't say they drive better. I much preferred the ride of my Corrado before it was lowered. Scraping over every speedbump is no fun either :( Knowing what suspension setup you currently have would be useful before you set about raising the ride height. I mean, if it's on coil-overs then you're laughing.

Nice work. Wanna sell your Megasquirt?

I had something similar happen to me on a Mk2 Golf a few years ago, although I managed to break the nut free from its welds. Under the carpet in the car, there's an inspection cover that allows access to the captive nut. It'll likely be a bit fiddly, but I'm sure there's enough room and visibility to retap the nut from the top.

Indeed mate. New exhaust manifolds sir? Engine out! BUT Bothered!! It aint about how easy it is to work on dude!!!!! :) I hear ya'. However, I can't abide parting with cash for mechanical work to be done, so that's basically the first thing I look at: ease of maintenance. I can understand that with engine to play with you weren't looking at the same things as me! Beautiful car.

Only reduced insulation resistance could allow an electric shock to occur. I'd replace the leads and the cap fairly soon.

As it only has one relay, it's only going to be able to control either the dipped or main beam. Don't be surprised if once fitted to the dipped beam, it becomes brighter than the main beam! You may as well fit it; you have nothing to lose. That said, it looks like fitting involves cutting off the standard connectors and crimping to the original wires. I wouldn't recommend that, and would modify that loom to become removable. At least that way, if it does fail, you can simply reconnect the original loom to the headlight. Like you say, crap lights are better than no lights.

That's a very nice-looking car and, no doubt, very capable. However, that engine looks like a complete 'mare to work on. I'd guess that pretty-much everything is an engine-out job!

Nice one. I recall reading through some of your plans a while ago; I just asked to check nothing major had changed. Best of luck with it all.... ...now put down that cup of tea and GET ON WITH IT! :)

Remind me what project "To-The-Bone" involves...?

I don't think you can just stick a card from any old TomTom in yours. I'm sure the maps need to be unlocked using the code provided by the specific device.

The link is ok, it's just the server's been getting a hammering.

Isn't that more or less what a supercharger costs?

Mk2 Golf parts are pretty-much worthless these days; you'll struggle to give the parts away, speaking from experience. The bonus is that makes them great as bases for projects, because there are so many cheap/free parts available. 'Stick with it' would be my advice. You're going to have to take it apart to break it anyway, so why not do it with a view to putting it back together at the end?

I guess my 1.8 16v averages around the low 30s combined. It's pretty thirsty around the city but not too bad on a run. I've always considered the fuel economy to be the weak point of the car considering the low performance.

I was thinking more 'what a waste of a good car'.

That HAS to have been done as a joke. Imagine that lot flying around in the event of rolling the car!

Nice one. Beware, the Corrado in my copy of Forza 2 is broken, in that you can't apply vinyl designs to the rear three-quarter panel (on the right hand side) withough them appearing on the bumper too. I'd have been happier to find this out if I hadn't just spent an hour trying to make a German Polizei replica!

What a game! I agree that the MS wheel is a must-have; it's so much easier to find the balance of the car with it...and it reminds me of being in the arcades when I was a kid too :) If you've got a spare £500 handy then you could do a lot worse than an XBox 360, Forza 2 and the MS wheel, that's for sure. Time to have a crack at the custom design part of the game. Some of the designs people have created are mind blowing.

I have a feeling that insurance companies have a maximum labour rate they pay body shops of about £30 per hour. I could be wrong about that though. Private work is very likely to be around £60 per hour though. Either way you're gonna win big time on the bumper cost saving!

My mum drives a Leon Cupra and regularly scares my dad.

Set the meter up so you can see the display in the car, then pull a fuse at a time until you find the circuit that's causing the issue. My car used to kill the battery after about four days with no use. It turned out to be the power capacitor hooked up to the subwoofer amplifier. Obvious really, but a complete oversight. After disconnecting that, the car will start after being left for two weeks.

CorradoVR6-n.o.s's VR6 Turbo,,now sold :(

You mean with the dashboard in place? I've watched a mate of mine change the matrix in a '93 Corrado VR6 without removing the dash. It can be done, I swear. -
I'm fairly sure everything we see in Top Gear now is staged. It's more of a comedy show now than a motoring show. Funny, but missing the point somewhat.
