  1. 1994 VR6s are only worth £2k, eh? I'll offer Kev £3k for his because I'm nice like that :)
  2. Over two years since buying the car and I still love it. I'd never leave the car parked with it up intentionally though.
  3. I quite enjoyed that movie, despite it being nothing like I was expecting. I didn't spot the Scirocco though.
  4. So you want to know what connections you need to make between the fuse box and the 1.8T wiring loom?
  5. The closest thing I have to a Corrado wiring diagram is in the Mk2 Golf Haynes manual. I'm not sure how much of it is the same as the Corrado so I'll check it against my car.

    Ignition problems

Damn. I was kind of hoping for a quick fix.
  7. The engine-chassis resistance test would be my starting point as it's free! Basically, I'd concentrate on the starter motor problem as it's likely to be the easiest to trace. If you can get the starter motor to work reliably and fuse 15 still keeps blowing then we'll look at that one later. I'm pretty sure they're related.
  8. I think it stands for 'Fully Electronic Ignition' unit. It's the big ECU-looking black box below the windscreen on the passenger side of the scuttle panel (for RHD cars). It controls the ignition system and the fuel pumps.

Another thing to check is the state of the engine-chasis earth. A poor earth connection could easily cause problems with high-current systems, such as the starter motor. For example, use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the -ve battery terminal and the gearbox casing. It should be
  10. I believe that the fuel pump relay is controlled by the FEI unit, which is supplied by fuse 15. It would stand to reason that when fuse 15 blew the fuel pumps would not run. I'm wondering if your starter motor and fuse 15 blowing problems are related. Did both problems appear at the same time? If so I would definitely be looking for a poor earth connection around the engine bay area.

That sounds like a classic case of 'dirty contacts' to me. As far as I know there's no reason that the starter and solenoid can't be stripped. I may be wrong though. I refurb'ed an 8v Golf GTI starter a few years ago and it's the same pre-engaged design that the Corrado uses I believe. However, if you're in any doubt about the operation of DC motors then it's probably best left to a specialist. I have no idea about the MK area. If you were in Norwich that'd be another matter :)

It sounds more like the actual starter motor is at fault. If the solenoid is clicking then it's probably not sticky. You could either try another starter motor or strip the one you have and check/refurb the brushes, commutator and the solenoid contacts that switch the starter current. As Valerian suggests, belting the starter motor with something heavy and blunt is a good test.
  13. It's still registered under that 'plate according to the RAC. The last change of keeper is listed as 15 February 2004. I'm guessing that's the date you sold it.
  14. At the end of the day it's a 12 year old car and, as such, I really would take it on face value. If it drives well and there are no obvious major faults it's all good. The important part of the HPi is that it's not shown as a total loss at any point in its life. If you're looking for a car to use it sounds perfect. If you're looking for a car to store for 30 years in the hope that it'll be worth millions then you could probably find a better candidate. Sounds fine to me :)
  15. How long have you had the car?
  16. To be honest, as you're selling a car with one fitted we should be asking you!
  17. Also, block tests are a five minute job at any garage with the kit. They test for the presence of exhaust gasses in the coolant.
  18. I wouldn't expect so. The control pressure on the 1.8 and 2.0 16v engines is regulated differently for a start.
  19. My power steering pump has been tired since I've owned the car. It's pretty noisy now and has always struggled to supply any 'assistance' for the first few minutes of a journey when cold. * EDIT * In a spur-of-the-moment decision I've just won a brand spanky new PAS pump on eBay for £42 delivered. I'm pretty pleased considering that's how much my local VW breakers want for a second hand pump. Now I just have to hope it *IS* for a 1.8 16v Corrado as listed.
  20. Isn't there a big thread about this very car somewhere else? I'll expect to hear the key in the lock reeeeal soon.
  21. I'll definitely be in this group buy, but a new battery is becoming somewhat of an urgent requirement!
  22. Make sure you keep pushing the solicitors assigned to your case. The legal protection solicitors assigned to me after my motorcycle accident in November couldn't even be bothered to call me despite three reminders in a five week period. My sister has had similarly bad experiences with solicitors assigned under the policy legal protection.
  23. This was definitely discussed at length in another thread. I'm gonna go look for it... *EDIT* 95 pages of hits...I really can't be bothered. My choice would be the 2.0 if I had my time again, mainly for the reasons listed in the other posts in this thread.
