  1. Well, I sold the 17s to a mate after I realised how much better the car drove on the Sebrings. The R1 was sold at the end of last summer in favour of a DR-Z400 for some green-lane action (something we have plenty of in Norfolk). I loved the R1 but it was pretty damn expensive to run considering how much of the performance was actually usable on the road. In many ways I prefer the DR-Z. Just for old time's sake...
  2. At home in front of the TV generally. I bet that marshall considers himself damn lucky.

http://www.qpeng.com/conversion_guide.html is also worth a read.
  4. Are people stupid enough to steal an R32 interior and advertise it on eBay? They can't be that common on the second hand market.
  5. Likewise. Hopefully I'll have mine up and running tomorrow....famous last words! It's easier to find a problem if its a permanent one after all.
  6. Any more updates? My car packed in today for the first time in two years. It turns over but fails to fire on any cylinder. Unfortunately I only had 30 minutes of light when the problem reared its ugly head so I only had a chance to check the coil, TCI-H unit, FEI control unit and feeds to/from the Hall sender. All of those check out fine. The car usually starts almost instantly so it was a real surprise when it failed to start today. My problem seems to point to the Hall sender as it's about the only component I haven't tested. It's also a component I don't have a spare for. According to the VAG ignition system workshop manual, the Hall sender can be tested using a diode test lamp....which I don't have.
  7. Crikey. I am really NOT liking that at all. It's a heck of a clean car but it's just not to my taste. * EDIT * It looks a lot better with the non-colour-coded wheels.
  8. I think I may well be in for one of these too.
  9. http://www.finalgear.com/downloads/topgear/ is the best resource as it has descriptions of the episodes and links to a heck of a lot the torrent files.
  10. It's possible to have fun on the roads? In Britain? In a car? No way!
  11. sorry bud but your talking about wings not spoilers. A spoiler changes airflow to reduce drag. A wing (like on an f1 car) creats down force with a increase in drag as a side effect. I somewhat disagree. I'm no master of the aerodynamic arts but it seems clear that the words 'spoiler' and 'wing' are often used to mean the same thing. Exhibit A is the Corrado 'active spoiler', which, according to VW, increases rear downforce and, therefore, must also increase drag. We're probably talking about different things but, in the case of the Corrado at least, rear spoiler = more drag. Q.E.D.
  12. Rear spoilers increase drag, well functional ones with angles of attack that promote downforce do anyway.
  13. I enjoyed the Veyron episode too. I'll hand it to the Top Gear team, the cinematography of their features really is second to none.
  14. Do you happen to know what series/episode numbers they were featured in? * EDIT * I've got all the episodes you're looking for: 1. The Bugatti episode against the plane (S07 E05) 2. The Mercedes SLR versus power boat episode (S06 E06) 3. Aston Martin versus plane episode (S04 E01 - actually Aston vs. trains) 4. Corrado VR6 episode (S03 E05) There's also the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti vs. the plane in S05 E08 if you're interested in the races specifically.
  15. My power steering pump is very feeble and can't handle cold PAS fluid, so I spend the first couple of miles of winter journeys with effectively no power steering. It is, indeed, bloody hard work and horrendously dangerous. I really should fix it but when the weather's warm enough to tackle the job the PAS fluid is thin enough for the pump to...errr...pump, so it gets forgotten.
  16. The intercooler looks as mean as feck.
  17. Now there's the sort of car that can make the Corrado seem like cheap and reliable motoring!
  18. I was just making sure Bally hadn't sneaked in and swapped all your keys around. You never know!
  19. Yeah, it does. The ones I bought for the 2.0 from the breakers were on a 1.8 16v and, although they looked slightly different, the part numbers were identical.
  20. I'm pretty sure my front mount is shot now too. Update required before I end up going for a standard mount.
  21. It's always tempting, but the extra running costs would stop me. I guess cost-wise the step from a VR6 is smaller than the step from a 16v. I don't think I could own a car I had to spend any money on anymore.
  22. There is a possibility that it was coincidental. Clearly, an air leak between the fuel metering head and the throttle body isn't ideal, but I had the same problem on a friend's 2.0 16v and the car idled ok with a huge split in the rubber. It was a bit flat to drive on account of the lean mixture though. I got both the rubber inlet parts from a scrap yard for £8 in perfect contition. I can't remember exactly how much VW wanted for them but it was a lot (for what they are).
  23. I've seen a lot worse to be honest.
