I went up against my mate's 1990 1.8 16v Corrado when I had a 1990 1.8 8v Golf GTI. It was pretty similar up to about 100mph then he just left me trailing. It wasn't a race from a standing start though. I feel the Golf may have had the edge in the first two gears.

What's wrong with this life? You've got quite a few years ahead of you!

Some people find that the solid mounts make the driving experience a bit harsh. If you think this is likely to be the case for you then the Vibratechnics mount is probably worth the extra.
-
Does it happen from cold? I'm fairly sure the mixture isn't influenced by the Lambda sensor until the engine is warm.

My elderly neighbour reversed straight into the front corner of my Corrado a few months back. In her defense she was straight round to report it. When I told her she'd probably improved it she wasn't sure what to say.

It may have been on Extreme Machines, which I believe was never available on DVD. I've got a pretty poor quality copy of the Ferrari part in Real Media format but that's the best I've ever managed to find.

Try not to be too hard on yourself bud :)

As I've found recently, it's almost impossible to fault-find on a constant injection system without access to a fuel pressure test kit. Things to look for on the 2.0 16v, with relation to cold starts, are: Coolant temperature switch on flywheel end of cylinder head. Differential pressure regulator on the engine side of the fuel distributor. Air-flow sensor plate potentiometer on the other side of the fuel distributor. Like I said though, in order to be able to properly test the cold-running fuel enrichment you're going to need to test the fuel pressure.

That's fackin' lovely.

Corrado Spotting! Was it you? [Archive January 06]

I just saw an L-plate 16v on the North Walsham by-pass. Driver and passenger both waved at me. -
Dilema yet another bump on road :( to being sold
bcstudent replied to aposegil's topic in General Car Chat
lol, no - not me. I can't say I'd enjoy climbing through the boot enough to remove my door locks! I know what you mean about breaking cars. I'm surrounded by the remains of three 8v GTIs and have been for a few years now. Soon gonna be skip time. -

Tricky one....but you've probably got a buyer for your doors if you break it :) -
My 1.8 16v has had phantom fan run-on issues since last summer too, with the (low-speed stage) fan cutting in and out when it felt like it even with a stone cold engine. I fixed it by simply unplugging the fan with the intention of sorting it out later. I hardly use the car and it wasn't until I boiled the crap out of it while running some engine flush through the system a few days ago that I figured I should sort it. I've got a wiring diagram from that sketchy Russian site relating, apparently, to a 1990 car that suggests the fan is receiving power via either: a) the low-temp side of the thermo switch, b) the radiator cooling fan run-on control unit, or c) the fuel pump run-on control unit (?!). I'm not sure I fully trust the diagram as it appears to be for a G60. This is also the first I've heard of the 'fuel pump run-on control unit'.

Cake icing on....rearrange as required. -
That's got to be in the top 10 places you'd least expect to get run over.

So how much is my twin engined vr6 C gonna cost to build :)

That'll make a change :) -
Car going in for MOT... good luck needed!!!!!
bcstudent replied to corradorocks's topic in General Car Chat
That's crap. I've MOT'd several cars at different places since the computerised system came in and I haven't paid for a re-test at any of them. Conditions vary from 'must be returned within 48 hours' to 'returned with less than 100 miles extra'. £35 is pretty reasonable for an MOT though. It's £40 at the places I use. -
Think of it this way - it's probably the last fuel pump and fuel pump relay you'll have to change on that car. I tend to run my cars on scrapyard parts so I often end up having to do the same job multiple times. I know it makes sense to buy new, but I'm all about the recycling :).

This all reminds me of the working scale-model V12 Ferrari, built by an Italian guy and featured by Jeremy Clarkson.

We need some of that in this country. I'd like to arm the police with a load of battered Rover 827s and let 'em smash car theives off the road. I'd be happy to let my car die as long as it took the thieves with it.

no spark 1.8 16v when starting/probs starti ... help plz
bcstudent replied to bighairymuppet's topic in Engine Bay
I'd forgotten about this thread! How daft do I feel? I tested the entire ignition system before I actually bothered to check for a spark...and there was a very strong one. I don't even know why I even assumes it would be an ignition problem to be honest. Anyway, it appears that the fuel pump has all but packed in. There's fuel being pumped to the metering head but there's not enough pressure to get it from there to the injectors - and certainly not enough to open the injectors. The fuel pump had been making a load of racket for just over a year but I've become very good at ignoring it. I changed the fuel filter today on the off-chance that it would help but I think it's been left too long and finally killed the pump. Ho hum. I'm pretty sure I've got a spare in the shed somewhere but if not I'll have to buy a new one. I's my own stupid fault for killing the old one for the sake of a £6 fuel filter. -
Those rear lights are, um, interesting. Generally though: sweet.
-
I'm very surprised he didn't actually check that the pump was delivering fuel under pressure.
-
So when the AA guy checked for fuel at the rail did he turn the ignition on to prove that the pump was supplying fuel, or did he just pull the pipe off?
