  1. I think you mean 204 at the flywheel with 161 at the wheels. It sounds like you're making good power for the mods, although I'm no G60 expert. In fact I'm no *anything* expert!
  2. You're like the Florance Nightingale of the Corrado world. Good luck with the engine swap.
  3. You have no chance. Like it or not the rice will make you look silly. I suggest you don't race then you win by default on the looks alone. Civics aren't exactly pretty.
  4. I find it hard to believe that anybody worried about fuel ecomomy would be considering a VR6 of any type. I think it's one of those cars that you fill up when it runs out without thinking about it. It's all relative too - I only average about 30mpg in my 1.8 16v on account of its prehistoric CIS fuel injection. So, with a Golf VR6 you essentially get 40bhp for free.
  5. I'm sure there are enough G60s around to find a good example. I don't think I'd buy one with a blown supercharger unless it was mint in every other respect and hellishly cheap.
  6. Or you could remove your front 'plate! SPECS are front-facing, right?
  7. I wash my car twice a year....but at least I do it by hand!
  8. I've got everything crossed for you. Best of luck with it - I'll be interested to see what it makes on the rollers.
  9. I've heard that said before but I don't see why really - similar engine, similar weight. What makes the Golf more partial to a drop of unleaded than the Corrado?
  10. What a girl's blouse. I'd never let the fire brigade cut up someone's car just because I had some poxy back pain. The 'injured' party walked to the damn car! Hmmm, five seconds of pain getting out of the car and laying on the floor or let someone's car get destroyed after they've just helped you out. Tough choice.
  11. My mate's girlfriend does mostly town driving in his '96 Golf VR6 and it rarely tops 20mpg. It's obviously better on a run, but only gets to around 27mpg max. It runs perfectly and doesn't even get driven that hard. I considered buying it myself until I learned about the (lack of) fuel economy!
  12. Yeah, I don't think anything's been changed. It just looks funny :)
  13. What the hell size wheel and tyre is that guy looking to fit?!
  14. You've got to admit though, the driver's not scared to go for the gaps! I was wondering why if he's that good he started so far down the grid. At several points in the video his car seems to be slower than the others if anything. Still, it was entertaining and that's all it had to be for me!
  15. Its been said the standard cables dont reach the optima terminals. Turn the battery round, reverse the terminals and it should fit. Hopefully. Hmmm, if the part about the reversed terminals has been said I must have missed it. It seems you're right though - the reversed terminal battery installed backwards would appear to require a little less battery lead. I think, given the choice, that I'd still rather get the standard configuration and use it as an excuse to re-make the cables in the engine bay. I must be sick.
  16. When I forst saw that MR2 video I watched on repeat for a while. He's lucky the Bora (Jetta) got in the way or he may have actually hurt some people. It's a shame the VW got nailed and the yellow ricer got away with it.
  17. Classic. I think the guy who made the first video invented a new word though: 'nother'.
  18. Just out of interest, did anyone watch this video? Class. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/28162841-6EF6-4B87-814F-420808483158.htm

    weird electrics

Check for a bad connection in the thin blue cable that supplies the alternator with its excitation current. I'm clutching at straws here but it's the only thing I can think of that would kick the alternator into life. Saying that, if the connection is broken the charging light should be lit in the clocks. I can only suggest checking the battery voltage after the car has been started if the lights are dim. That will at least tell you if it's a charging-related problem.
  20. Mine are held together with glue and the grilles in my friend's Corrado are A.W.O.L. I guess they just get smashed and never replaced. Can you even get them from VW now?
  21. I like it...but you've spelled 'Tape measures' wrong, unless you really do sell 'Tap measures'. There are a few electronic/automotive tools I'm interested in. I look forward to seeing the categories fill up as most are empty at the moment...but you already know that :)
  22. Does there need to be a reason?
  23. Christ. I even registered to take a look and I STILL can't login until the account has been approved by an administrator. Arse.
  24. My 1.8 16v used to be exactly the same and when it did eventually start it'd run on two or three cylinders for a few seconds. After two years of that I went through the entire fuel system and cleaned/checked the components one-by-one. In the end I changed the fuel filter, the pump non-return valve and the injectors. It starts and runs perfectly now (as perfectly as you'd expect from such a basic system at least). Stripping and cleaning the fuel metering head made a marked improvement too. The car used to idle at 1400rpm if driven at a reasonably high speed for any length of time. That doesn't happen now either.
