Things you regret selling

Recommended Posts

So I used to have a big box of Corrado 'stuff'

Got rid of most of it thinking I'll probably never own another Corrado, including these 3 model kits - obviously I am now regretting this...

Interesting to see what Corrado-related bits other people have sold, which they now wish they hadn't?

Sold two k plate 16v corrados for spares or repair then bought a k plate vr6 two days later.

Now wishing I hadn't as there's loads of tiny clips, screws and fittings I'm trying to track down...

Sold my original OEM Votex Roofbars with a VR, then a year later bought them back for my next Corrado. Unfortunately in the meantime the chap had lost 3 of the rubber feet!..and I only found out once I had picked them up from 100 miles away! Still on the look out for the bits. Also regret selling every Corrado I've ever sold!

There was a chap on eBay recently selling some roof bars. I had a set back in the day (see photo) - dropped a mountain bike on the roof (proper numpty), got rid of them after that!!

Definitely agree with regards to selling old Corrado.

Pictured is my old car - IMO nice colour, Stealth cared for engine, RXIIs and black leather Recaro interior - reluctantly sold it as we needed money for deposit.

'Huggy' on this forum ended up with it, but appears he's not been on here since 2013, so no idea where the car is now?

EDIT - someone asked, so I've added a side-on photo of the THULE bike carriers on OEM roof bars.

My Pargas Blue 1.1 Mk1 Gti Look-a-like sold back in 2002 (YLN233X), My black 205 1.9 Gti I sold back in 2005 (G589THS) and the Atlas Grey Mk2 Golf Gti project I sold for £500 2 years ago (F31HTM).

I have two Corrado G60's though now which somewhat softens the blow of past mistakes.

I sold my oldmans Jensen Interceptor back in 2011 for £7500, that was a bit of a bummer considering how much they have gone up in value since. Also the Marcos Mantula I watched him build as a child went to Germany back in 2008 for a mere £4000.

I have had a lot of vehicles over the years but 2 in particular have me regretting

first is a mk1 Astra gte ( have not seen one in years) as mine was a solid car with only a minor oil leak which I did not bother to investigate and I regret to say was quicker than a mk2 golf gti that replaced it. these cars are really sought after now.

the second is a golf rallye I had for a mere 10 months. it caused me grief for the first 6 months with numerous leaks including a replacement rack and a new genuine complete exhaust that cost a small fortune. but the car was well speced with electric recaros and low mileage but in the end after I got it all sorted I hated the sight of the thing and sold it for buttons (4K) I knew from the moment It

left my home that I would regret it and I have especially for the value of them now I should have just put it away.

When I was down at JMR the other week they had a Rallye in for restoration. So much presence and I couldn't take my eyes off it..wish I could afford a good un.

Thanks for that. If Huggy or anyone has the original bars please get in touch. I'm currently carrying my bike around with rear seats folded which is far from ideal. I don't just want to grab a set of universal bars as have no trust that they won't damage car! Silly design feature that the rubber feet pieces just fall off constantly!

Most of us have probably had classics in one shape or form and regretted selling. Mine has to be a MK1 Ford Zodiac , I loved that car. I was very young at the time and didn't put my tax money away , a bill from the tax man and she had to go .

My first car in the 1980s was a Cortina Mk2 1600E. It was near to mint condition. It's still on the road today.

I had a guards red Porsche 944 S2 convertible for five years, sold it in 2006 because I wasn't really driving it enough at the time, nice ones have tripled in value since then.

I put the money towards my black 3 door mk5 GTi which I bought new. When it was 4 weeks old a numpty going the wrong way through a no entry hit my front end, the repairs were terrible in the insurance company's recommended garage and after a lot of arguing I ended up paying myself to have the repairs redone elsewhere.

I never felt the same about it after that and sold it as a 2 year old car with 13.5k on the clock.

Looking back that Golf should have stayed, it had loads of nice upgrades and once I had the work redone it was mint

Loads of Cars when I was a teenager, but then they were just run of the mill cars.

Had a Mk2 Ford Capri John player special in black with gold stripes with the JPS logo and 4 spoke gold alloys.

Had it sprayed 2 tone red and silver which I thought was great then but still have an old photo and think it looks real **** now.

Even at the time I wish I had kept it original.

When I was 16 I bought a 1967 Beetle, my very first car, which I went on to restore in full until it was almost show worthy. Then some drunk ran into the back of it at a junction a few years later. Repaired it but it didn't feel the same, and I was young and fancied a change so sold it. Tried to find it a few years ago but no luck and the DVLA wouldn't tell me any info on who now owns it.

I think that's probably the only car I regret selling. If anything I regret either buying the wrong car or missing out on buying something.

In hindsight I wish I'd bought an early bay window camper when they were more realistically priced. I'm on the lookout for one as a project but everyone wants silly money for them so I'm struggling to justify the cost.

I also, kind of, regret buying back my current Corrado (puts on flame jacket). I love the car but being realistic I should've just moved on to the track 'rado I acquired, which is now sat rotting and doing nothing in my mates barn because Mincy is in the garage. It doesn't get used as much as I'd like and I'll now probably never sell it as my son is so attached to it, my mates would never let me forget it, and I do enjoy being involved in both this forum and the CCGB.

There's only 71 of these left, I remember pushing one in the 1980's!

My pal had a black hatchback back GTE in the late 80's , always thought the booted version was better looking. We were all rather envious anyway, lovely motor.

The only car I ever regret selling was my last Corrado 3 years ago, although my current one is a better

car I made a lot of memories with the last one having owned it 13years,

and it was a better colour !

My only regret is not having the opportunity to buy some of the cars that have been mentioned so far. !!

Some brilliant ones in the list too.

Liking the Zodiac,(my Mum had one when I was young), 996 C4, Cortina 1600E, John Player Special Capri and the Manta GTE especially !!

I have managed a few good ones, although I don't regret selling them, I would have loved to have been able to keep them.

Mk11 Astra GTE, Mk 1 XR2, MGB GT, MK2 GTI 16v - each brilliant in their own way. The GTE and GTI 16v were lots of fun.

I do regret not ever being able to afford a TR6 - they were my absolute dream car.

I wouldn't buy one now though. My Corrado has always been my TR6 replacement !! lol

I have owned my beautiful Aqua Blue Corrado VR6 for 15/16 years now, always knowing I would not sell her - as I would regret it.!!

Fortunately I have not needed to for any reasons to date. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

More so, as she is nearly back to value I paid for her. Even better. !!lol
