Restored Campaign for Sale

Recommended Posts

Interesting - is it listed anywhere else? I wonder which car it was (each of the six was given to a different high-sales dealership) - maybe the one that travelled to Ireland some years ago?

FML! Difficult to price admittedly, but more than twice that of a showroom condition standard example with all the options.... Not sure about that!

Id be surprised if this is still for sale at the end of the month. It’s one of four left, professionally restored with everything working, may not get the full 30 big ones for it though.

I’ve long said we undervalue our cars, but I’m not convinced that 40K is realistic, even for such a rare model. Be interesting to have one back in circulation though, I’ve only ever seen one in the flesh in my 25 years of Corrado ownership!

Let’s get things into respective it has a red recaro interior and a body colour that you can spray off the paint chart . This is not know homologation special like an E30 M3 or a 190E EVO or even a cosworth . The car has no race history it was an incentive to get some laszyasses to sell some more cars. Also let’s be honest the colour scheme would not be a common required taste as red is not everyone’s cup of tea . Sorry just my opinion. Hopefully it will sell for that as I'm sure it will increase prices as a whole.

Perfect rado for sale for me would be.

Fully restored

VSR manifold

Black Recaros

Vdo gauge pod

Gemini Vw motorsport 6 dogleg gear box .

Now that’s what stock special edition should be and also with lightweight panels and spoilers, power upgrade of at least 30bhp.

Also I saw a 964 sell for 37K a couple of weeks backs from a Porsche specialist, what would you rather have ? Then you have a Golf Rallye which you could probably pick up for 20k which is a real special edition with many individual/specific parts which would of cost VW a hell of a lot of money to develop, not a phone call to Recaro trimming department !!!

It looks like the recently restored JMR one, shame the owner has spent so much money on it just to sell it. Whoever is willing to spend that sort of money will most likely sit it at the back of a garage collecting dust ready to sell it on again in 10 years

There is that feeling I have had with cars where I have spent that much money and just want to recoup- I nearly did it with my Rado last year but decided against it as why should someone else enjoy my hard work.

If you look at the pricing it appears that VW had it priced similar to other Corrado VR6 at the time and did not even put a premium on the car - I think the color combo was not an easy sell to be honest. There is a black VR6 automatic one with the same mileage and age that was even a few hundred more expensive.

Right page second and third from bottom.

Petty I know, but they put it in for MOT in November with the ABS light on, crap wipers and hazard lights not working ... in my book that knocks £10k off the price for giving it a crummy mot history

As regards to a MOT as long as you have evidence you have addressed it then not a problem at all .

Its hard enough to sell these cars for £4K, the £40K to me is to get people talking and spreading the word until someone picks up a "Bargain" for much less.

I only bought my Corrados because they were cheap, so maybe my comments aren't worth a fig anyway?

To some people, but I personally would be prepared to pay more for (and indeed have in the past) a car that has a completely clean MOT history with matching expiry dates. Bit pedantic and not necessarily proof that it has been better cared for, but it's nice paperwork :p

It is strange how they are failing to pick up in value, particularly with them being billed as being a bit of a bargain buy in the motoring press for quite a few years now. Don't seem to have the 'x' factor that is driving up Mk1/2 Golf values etc

Parts availability and cost are killing the Corrado at the moment in my opinion - no-one wants a classic car that they can't run, maintain and enjoy. You can still buy nearly everything you need to build a Mk2 Golf or Beetle from scratch.

Those dealer prices above from Scott's in the thread were for second hand stock in the late 90s, post 95/96 - the Campaign was early 92, and the one on the list has quite high miles on it. I think no-one was really sure quite what to do with the Corrado, at the time, and now.

Nonetheless they could not add a premium on to the car at the time as been a limited edition compared to the other models for sale. Im sure this car will do well but I would rather a black recaro interior anyday of the week. Infact for 40 K I would want two VR6 engines and a dual VSR ha !

Mk2 golf are a million times easier to run agreed !

Also cars like the E30 have a huge aftermarket and classic division support network so another great classic to own + BBS range is much more of a bargain !

Be good to see how much this goes for at auction we should have a sweepstake?

Is it rude to say what I think it will go for ?

Was this not up for 40k at one point?

Price guess it depends on the resto carried out e.g. full nut and bolt rebuild, bodywork all sorted etc.
