  1. Yellow sensor also controls the fans turning on iirc, so could in theory give an erronious signal to both the temp gauge and fans. It happened to me, and is an easy/cheap job, so no great loss if this doesn't fix it. Just my 2p
  2. This could be a knackered temperature sender(yellow one), it happened to me once. Gives a false reading at the gauge. It would also be a good idea to put a new 'stat in as a matter of course.
  3. Black or Moonlight Blue C, poss G60, near Blackburn, Lancs around 8pm last night. I flashed, you waved. Anyone from here?

    Flat Battery

Possible an interior light staying on, boot or glovebox are possible culprits. Could just be a duff battery that's not holding its charge
  5. RA2 - Good bit of kit, easy to move between cars and bike.
  6. I got one a couple of weeks ago, registered it. Within a couple of hours the thing let me download the maps. Takes ages the first time you do it, be warned!
  7. Check around the thermostat housing for a leak. Sounds exactly like mine, that started weeping after replacing thermostat.
  8. There wasn't anything nasty lurking under the trims (phew!), next to find the rear sunroof drain channels.
  9. It looks like RW1 is probably right, the registration appears to starts K22? ???.
  10. How do the room trims come off? I have an interior water leak on the rear passenger side of the car, it drips onto the seat belt reel. I initially thought it was the window seal that had failed, but I've had that refitted. Can only guess that there is a bad panel joint somewhere, I assume the body panels (roof - rear quarter) join under the roof trim strips. Therefore I ned to remove it to have a look, and then refit. Any advice welcome.
  11. It won't be crank sensor if there is fuel at the cylinders. A dead Crank sensor kills spark and fuel.
  12. On holiday last year in Scotland I averaged 37.5 over a 70-80 mile trip, just ambling along at around 50-60mph.
  13. I really don't understant this car, tried to start it tonight and it fired straight to life. It must have an intermittent electrical problem somewhere. Finding it could be a hard. I think the wiring diagram will be making an appearance this weekend to see if I can bottom it.
  14. Looks like me and my big mouth! The bl**dy fault returns.......arrrrgggghhh No spark, engine cranks and fuel relay switches rapidly. Disconnected crank position sensor and cranked engine, no clicking of fuel relay so I guess that is doing its job (the thing is new anyway). So I guess I'm looking at the coil pack, or wiring to it. I'm just unsure about this as when running the car is fine and doesn't misfire at all. Vagcom is clear. jonrb - I may have led you up the wrong route with the cps, but worth a try Any suggestions welcome.
  15. Sorry, I forgot to update the post. Ended up removing the sensor and cleaning crud off the end of it, after refitting the car started and ran fine. Whether this was due to cleaning the sensor or if it had a fractured wire and removing it remade the connection, I don't know. Anyway I fitted a new one as mentioned above and it has been faultless since. The interesting thing was that it wasn't coded by the ECU. jonrb I still have the one I took out, if you want it you can have it although it may be intermittent.

    Engine rattle

Noise is more of a tapping, it speeds up with engine speed, bt other than been faster is more or less the same. Engine does have one or two small oil leaks, which it's had since I got it, hopefully they'll be fixed this summer. No sign of smoke from exhaust.

    Engine rattle

I've got a loud engine rattle on the car when cold, sounds to be top end some where around drivers side. It quietens when engine is warm, but is always evident. Seems to be there whether engine is under load or not. I know it's near impossible to diagnose a noise without hearing it, but worth a try! Car uses about 1 litre of oil every 1500 miles if this is of help. 93 VR6 - 87,000miles Ta for any help
  18. Is that not the main engine harness connector?
  19. I could vagcom it for you, as I can get myself to Stafford during work time if I arrange my work suitably. There has to be a BUT hasn't there? I only have a 2x2 connector whereas you probably have OBD2. Can you verify which connector is fitted to your car? It's under the gear surround. corradovr6sc is near you I think with OBD2 vagcom, he may be able to help. See this thread for vagcom info.

  21. It depends how expensive the random selection of parts are that it always seems to need! But I can't post the names on the forum!
  22. A lady also owned mine at one point in its life, she paid £16,995 for it in May 1996. It was 3 years old at the time.

    i'm new

Does it spark? Is there fuel reaching the cylinders?
  24. Red C in Preston near prison today about 5.10pm, think you were turning down London road. Couldn't tell what model as you where side on to me but wearing 17" wheels of some sort (looked nice) I was staring from a blue pug406 repmobile, queued the other way.
  25. I had VW do my 80k last year, cost me £300 inc changing a flex brake hose. Not impressed that they thought it was a 16v and even got the registration wrong.
