  1. I'd check the battery, if not this I would look if all earth straps have a good connection. Could have high resistance, most likely engine to chassis strap.
  2. It must never come up then, unless you have a private road
  3. Saw G***RKE on M61 north, near Chorley at about 2.30. Nice looking 16v in blue. You may have noticed me along side in a pug406, got to drive it for work (for my sins!).
  4. When you say that the plug sparks when engine is cranking I assume you meen the plug is out of the engine and connected to its HT lead. Possibilities, plug failing under compression - try and switch plug with one from working cylinder and see if problem moves. Have you checked compression of all 4 cylinders? May have no or little compression. Is the cylinder getting fuel? I'll probably think of another couple of things in a bit.
  5. M***HEC - Green Storm, on M6 near J31. Lady driver and appeared to have wood rimmed steering wheel!, I was alongside you in my repmobile for a while.
  6. That's the one, handy for Matlock and a good blast. I have to use it in the Repmobile quite often, not as much fun in a tractor engined Peugeot!
  7. Mine's definately body coloured, on a '93 model car. See pic.
  8. Gutted for you mate, like Henny said get your self to a decent doctors soon, looks like you took quite a hard whack, whiplash can be painful and come on a good few days after the bump, trust me I know! I also think it will be written off. Don't accept the first settlement figure the insurance offer you, in my experience it is always far too low. Got the info below from RAC carfinder. Vehicle details Manufacturer Ford Model FIESTA FLIGHT Body type 5 door hatchback Colour Blue Fuel type Petrol Date manufactured 30 December 1992 Number of previous owners 4 Last owner change 02 February 2004
  9. Mine's showing 336 miles at the minute and the needle's well into the red zone :( . Only gets short runs usually, when I took it up Scotland on holiday it was doing about 440 miles on a full tank.
  10. Benji - I assume he means the average speed. Reset it when you're travelling at a constant speed and you'll get a true speed reading until you change how fast you're going.
  11. Sounds like a severely worn CV joint to me. Worth a look?
  12. Is it easily portable from car to car? and Can it fit on a motorbike?
  13. Radar detectors, cheap ones tend to false alarm all the time. If buying one, make sure you can turn off X-band, the police in the UK don't use it, but shop doors and loads of other stuff does, so false alarms galore. Laser detectors, all well and good, but when it bleeps at you, all you can do is wait for the fine because at that point it is too late, the traffic enforcement officer will know your speed. All it takes is 1/3 of a second for the cops to clock you. See http://www.speed-trap.co.uk for more info
  14. My VR sits around 94 in free flowing traffic, the highest I've seen is 110 in a traffic jam.
  15. Saw another couple today, 1. White think it was a 'valver, H801***, you were on Trinity Way, Manchester about 3pm this afternoon. 2. Red, don't know which model, H373***, you were in Grimsargh near Preston around 5pm today. Both occasions I was in my tractor engined repmobile :( , so I didn't wave, but you may have seen me having a good look.
  16. Most cameras are directional, taking pictures from the rear of the vehicle. It could have gone off for a couple of reasons, but probably picked up a reflection of the radar energy which fooled the camera into thinking you where speeding. That's why they put the white marks on the road, they act as a verification of your speed. Could be that some numpty has set the trigger speed of the camera incorrectly (to raise even more revenue??), but then it would be gong off all the time.
  17. The heater may not be the resistor pack, the switch may have a fault that can be quickly fixed for nothing in about 15 minutes. I've already posted the details somewhere on the forum, but if you can't find it let me know and I'll email you the pictures of how to test/repair. Congrats on getting the VR.
  18. I never seem to see any Corrados during work time, usually somewhere in the Manchester area, and today I've seen 2 ! (3 if I count the one that parks a few hundred yards from my house!) 1st - Red 16v at ASDA in Hulme H***TJX around 1pm 2nd - another red one, this time parked in Chorlton on Barlow moor road, K44***, mid afternoon. 3rd - G60, J440***, lives about 100 yards from me (Longridge, Preston), but I've never come across the owner - If you're on the board give me a shout. Hello to all of you.
  19. I've used http://www.parcel2go.co.uk in the past, admittedly not for wheels, and I think they'd have to be shipped as 4 items, but even so it would come in at a max of £50.
  20. Just got back from my holidays, 1450 miles showing on computer. Saw total of 2 Corrados, 1st was on 27th June on the A87 about 30 miles south of the Kyle of Lochalsh, due to high passing speed all I could tell was dark colour but carrying 2 cycles on roof bars, you were heading south. 2nd was parked up about 10 miles from Whitby (or possibly Scarborough). Very nice purple colour, first I've seen in that colour. Nice alloys and very clean. Spotted on 3rd or 4th July (was getting forgetful at that point!)

    wet seatbelt

I have same problem on passenger side, had rear side window removed and resealed, this didn't solve it. Water appears to be entering from a relativley high point and running down inside of panel (under rear window) and drips onto seatbelt. Anyone know where sunroof drains are routed? I was wondering if I had a bad seal between rear quater panel and rest of car, as the windscreen people said that there was evidence that a new one had been fitted at some point of the cars life. Water only enters mine slowly, and usually in light rain/drizzle and not when absolutley belting down... strange!
  22. Hook voltmeter up direct to battery terminals, should read around 13.5V with engine running if all is healthy.

    Heater/fan

I had the problem of the fan only working on position 4, solution took 5 minutes, so worth a look. Also worked on my mates VR Golf. Remove plastic trim from heater contol panel, and the plastic knob from fan speed control. You will see a small metal tang (indicated on photo with screwdriver). Using some needle nose pliers, twist this very slightly, the top of the contact needs to move forwards, and the bottom of it move back (obvious when you can see the shape of it). The control panel does NOT need to be removed from car, the one in the photo is a spare I have lying around!
  24. Cheers Supercharged, didn't realise they could be adjusted. Just done one of them and you where spot on. Got to do the other after work (Not driving the C). Is this a sign the bearings are passed their best, or just a routine maintanence thing?
  25. I think I've got worn wheel bearings in the rear wheels, but am looking for confirmation before spending a fortune again. Car has developed a very low level whine from the rear end, most noticeable around 30-40mph. Jacking rear wheels up there is about 1-2mm of travel at top of the tyre if wobbled on a right angle to axis of car. Hard to describe but I hope some one will know what I mean. I'll be a bit peed off with the VW stealers if they have gone, 'cause I've just spent £300 on a service a month ago!!
