  1. Yeah, the ABF is a nice engine, reliable and well managed... It does sound like a good car and if the body work is good and the history checks out then the price sounds right but as David says, 80k is the time when all these rubber parts really need replacing to keep the ride quality so make sure he budgets for this... The only thing I would say is that MK3's are now not very popular with the MKV making the IV cheaper and I would say good mk1's and MK2's will fetch more money so also bare this in mind if he is only planning on having it a year or two.
  2. Check if it was a genuine part first of all... If it is then it may be covered by the 2 year warranty Vtech ones last about 10k on a VR, FAG ones a bit longer... SKF are the only ones to use IMO... I think your just going to have to go for another one really - If it does it again in a years time then it may be a problem with the bearing carrier...
  3. Failing that just set fire to it...
  4. See the knowledge base and group buy section.
  5. Moving to General Shed Chat... You checked the alternator V belt is on and tensioned - My mates R reg ruscort pulley failed last year, plastic melted and belt droped off.
  6. You could do with borrowing an ECU or trying yours in another car just to see if it fires
  7. He may already have the VR mounts being a late 16V but Neil is on the case...
  8. 'This Country...' [/A. Partridge]
  9. Bound to be something trivial amd i'm sure you'll sort it Joe... My bets on the chip as I think you suspect that too... Also check crank and cam sensor plugged in, ecu relay in place? Assume cam timing is ok and sender wheel swapped back over...

  12. Yeah, again i've had dealings with Think Auto and they are terrible, I knew exactly what I wanted and went thru it and ordered it for the G60 and they still sent me VR6 bits, sorted eventually tho... I spoke to a guy called Mas I think who was fairly helpful Funny thing is I have a catalogue down in the garage and i'm sure they do fans.... Kev - I actually called in at AP over the weekend and all I can say is it's worth a trip just to see there receptionist... very nice pair of front bells!
  13. Do they!?! Have a look on ClubGTi in the quality retailers and suppliers section...
  14. Was it a genuine part tho?
  15. Yep - I'm afraid to say you really need to buy a good one and be prepared to plough money into it if doing that sort of mileage...
  16. I read the above like he does not want to supply directly to customers really (like most suppliers) and would rather you went thru one of there distributers...
  17. Apparently Tesco are selling some for a fiver that fit ok...
  18. I think they are M6x30 but I will check later...
  19. You checked all the fuses - ie it's a different fuse to the hazzards?? If not the above then maybe an earth problem - start changing bulbs
  20. I don't think the book speed is 137mph is it??? a good 16v GTi will do that... I'd say a tuned G60 has slightly more top end potential than a VR...
  21. Yep - I had a GPS measured 150.0 - I assume this is fairly accurate... the speedo at the time was reading 158mph and i was absolutly cacking myself keeping the full beams on to see with traffic coming towards me from the other way!
