Did yo unplug the dim-dip resistor? If the lights aren't staying on its most likely a dead battery, this cold weather with always show up weak batterys, test with a multimeter or take it to Halfords for a check and buy a new one if needed.

The gauge gets its reading from the black temp sender, may be just that or the wiring to it....

You can get a sump gasket/baffle from VAG for the 4 Cyls which works with the original sump but I think you'll have to get an aftermarket for the VR...

Yep the part numbers should be different - ends in 015/016 IIRC... (thay should be a mirror image of each other) I would just by new ones, they are about £12 +vat from the dealer and should feel alot better than second hand ones... -
Best thing to do if your going for a front end respray is to get the bumper done as per usual but tell them to mix the softer paint they use for plastics into what they use for the wings and bonnet, I think about 30% is the norm and that will resist chip alot better than the standard hard paint.

Hmm, cheers for that - I just assumed it was a different boss - I actually want the wheel slightly closer to me so might do this as the Momo boss puts the wheel in almost the same place as standard...

For decent brakes just get new VAG discs and Pagid Fast Road Pads but if you want them to look good as well, go for Black Diamond discs or the ATE Grooved that Eurocarparts sell or the Brembo Max from GSF...

Yeah, I think they close if the matrix loses pressure (ie has a leak) not sure if they could stick closed and then open again, maybe worth changing the valves if you think the matrix is ok and refreshing the coolant.
