  1. Aluminium is becoming more and more widespread in modern car manufacturing, usually for isolated components / body panels, some manufacturers are moving into even lighter / stronger magnesium components now. I would not say that Audi are the leaders in aluminium technology anymore, Jaguar / Aston Martin / BMW etc are just as if not stronger in this area.
  2. Theres better handling, faster, lighter, more comfortable cars than the Corrado out there, but the Corrado as an all-rounder really does take some beating - I've never owned a German car with character before but the Corrado has it in spades
  3. Afraid not, it was just typiccally Teutonic logic at work
  4. The A does not stand for anything at all - they needed a new series of model designations and it (A) was logical to start with the first letter of the alphabet and (B) no other manufacturer had previously registered these designations
  5. it was a shame that the Puma they tested was not an FRP, without a doubt the best handling FWD I have ever driven / owned, Integra included - great engine too, very peaky and you really had to work it but as a cross country car it was absolutely incredible and fantastic fun - much more so than the Corrado
  6. Cost wise - not too sure, wasn't settled when I got my hands on one - send Edition1 a PM and I'm sure he'll advise
  7. No, simply pop out the old one and push in the new - simple as that
  8. Got mine fitted yesterday - very neat fitment, replacing drivers door side vent, sorry about dark pic but you can get the idea
  9. Fire extinguisher Umbrella x2 Tow rope Bottle of water Can of oil Collapsible bucket Box of disposable gloves
  10. The test did seem to be full of inconsistencies, would have been better to rank the cars by decades in which they were produced, also needed to split by genre - a 205GTI would never have been compared with a Rado when new / current, so why try and compare them a few years down the line. Lets have some proper comparisons - Corrado vs 944 vs Celica etc Have to disagree on the Renaults though, they are superbly balanced cars - crap quality and awful driving positions but great fun for short cross country blats
  11. You have got yourself an exceptionally nice car there - hope it will still be seen at the West Sussex Club GTi meet
  12. There are 2 power outputs available for the TSI - 140 and 170PS, they are only just starting to filter through, think the 170PS is around 17.5k
  13. Thats exactly why I wanted the deposit to be totally refundable, not been exactly bowled over with Volkswagens last few attempts on the styling front - heavy handed are the words that spring to mind
  14. We're talking the 1.4 TSI here, reckon the 2.0 would be at least £22k
  15. 22k Euro - thats about £15.5k, add a bit on for privilege of RHD, add abit more on for the extra std equipment that Volkswagen UK usually requests and you're up to about £18.5k, cheaper than an Alfa GT, comparable to a Celica (soon to be axed) and a bit more than a Hyundai Coupe
  16. Definitely not in Volkswagen UK's marketing plans for 2007, my guess is Paris unveiling will be of a pre-production prototype labelled as a concept. This seems to be the way that major manufacturers work nowadays, slightly watered down production versions following on about 12-18 months later I would think that a 1.5-2k premium over the equivalent Golf is a decent ballpark figure
  17. Dealers know absolutely nothing. Just been offered a job with a large dealer group so may be going back into realms of a company car, fortunately the role would cover some VW sites so I could probably wangle one as a company car, certainly getting a decent car and a regular change cycle is a dead cert negotiating point as far as I'm concerned - Golf GTi is the starting point
  18. Finally got ound to placing my deposit for a new Scirocco - now have a letter stating: 1. The first customer car is mine 2. I will be free to determine spec / colour etc as info becomes available 3. Deposit fullly refundable should I change my mind at any time up to signing the official order form All for £500
  19. Who needs a car with the engine in the boot anyway
  20. Big decision for you Jay but I'm sure it won't be too hard coming back to a Corrado
  21. Maybe a controversial view but I know a few people who have taken this test, without a doubt they have been the most sanctimonious and dithering drivers I have ever come across
  22. Points / gains - depends whose opinion you read! Some would say its best to leave the fruits of Volkswagens develepoment / research in place, others will say that it returns warm air back to the charger that can have a detrimental impact on the chargers effectiveness and its therefore best to remove. I had to delete the boost return as I needed the second inlet for the twin inlet induction kit.
  23. If you're running a boost return delete the pipework that flows from the bottom of the TB to the second charger inlet will have been discarded. The rocker cover breather is tyhen very often left to deposit the tiny amounts of oil it pumps out on to the ground - witha catch tank it obviously collects there and can be drained and disposed of. Catch tanks do add a bit of bling to an engine bay too of course
  24. Now posted a Group Buy Feeler, if you're interested (obviously dependant on being able to negotiate a reasonable price) can you drop a PM to me and I'll add you to the list
  25. Bras purely to stop stonechips, don't like them on Rado's but seem to suit the retro feel of the MK1 cab.
