  1. OK, inspired (can I use that word?! sounds a bit wrong..meh, oh well) by Jediknight's thread regarding his crashed A3, I had noticed on there someone had said they had had worse accidents, been in cars more of a mess and walked away. So, let's see pictures of them, what sort of driving history have us lot got? Here's mine, left a mates house at about 4 in the mornin early last year, bumbling along home, only to have a deer jump out in front of me, swerved to miss it, back end came out, so trying to correct it, i planted it, but lost control and hit a tree. This flipped the car onto its roof into a field, only problem being the field was about a 15ft drop from the road. I was amazingly lucky to walk away.
  2. Right, I know Riley has a mk1 on here but I was wondering if anyone else did? My girlfriend has a 1.1 Mk1 and it is pissing water through the driver's door seal, and apparently they are obsolete (I will check on ETKA in a minute...). So, has anyone got any advice on how to seal it up, I have considered silicone but she's not keen on the idea - anyone know of one being broken or has one of these laying about for a 3 door? ANy help would be much appeciado! Thanks
  3. I think, if someone offered me a mint VR and mint Storm then I'd only take the Storm if they were up at the same price, because I could make money out of it. The wheels wouldn't be a selling factor for me, as I don't like th elook of Corrado's with small wheels, I think the huge arches need to be filled. I agree with whoever (sorry if thats rude but I am ill and cant be bothered to scroll up and read) said that they should have made the Storm attractive in other ways, like it maybe being quicker than a VR then it would attract other people. The fact that it's a limited edition doesnt do anything for me, I'm afraid, but each to their own.
  4. Don't you use a cover on your board when you drive around? I'm walking distance from the beach too!
  5. Wow, sorry dr_mat. By the by your posts always seem antagonistic, whats with that?

    Silly Question...

Darren, is there any way to check what spec charger I have, and when it was done with you? I got told R1 but others have told me different.
  7. have you tried heated seats with your trowsers on ! I wondered what I was doing wrong!! lol, I'm just not keen on them, I don't like the feel.....ew........
  8. Maybe. I'd say he's probably given you the best advice by saying get one off the forum. You may pay more but it's worth it.
  9. I don't like heated leather, it makes my balls sweat. :D
  10. Right, probably gonna get flamed for this....but why do most people on here love the Storm so much? Ok, it's a limited edition, but are they really that desirable just because they have a model-specific paint code and an easily-stolen badge? Surely paying over the odds for one of these is a waste of money? They're not quicker than any other VR, are they? And do they come with any eqiupment which is Storm-specific? I know about the heated seats but don't some VR's have them? I don't mean to offend anyone, I just don't get why they fetch so much more money than VR's, when they don't seem that special..
  11. What about G60's? I guess they were a bit cheaper?
  12. Welcome. Excuse the ignorance - whats a Firehawk?
  13. OK, I will try the lambda wiring tomoro, thanks for the help...could black smoke be anythign else at all?
  14. Motion seconded. AS for an engine rebuild its hard to say. You have the extra labour for two extra cylinders on a VR. A total overhaul and an overbore to a 1.9 for my G60 was quoted at 1200. I think timing chains is normally around a 600 quid job on its own?
  15. So true about engine work. It's not just about what people think about whether youve done the work or not, it's just more satisfying when the car is yours.

    Alfa Brera

    This the Alfa Coupe thing?
  17. Well, I've known for a while this engine ma have some running problems due to the misfire it has and the previous owner cracking a piston and possibly doing a not-so-professional repair on it (which I didnt' know at the time). I havent had the money recently to put it on a RR to see if it was a fuelling problem instead of a piston/engine problem - I took it to a good motorsport garage I know however who had a good look over it including wet and dry compression tests - only around 15psi down on the offending cylinder, which he thought wasnt enough to warrant the problems. Sooo....today, going into town for a job interview, the car seemed fine. Normal misfire between around 5-6k when warm, nothing else. When I satarted to sit in traffic though, the car's idle began to hunt, and was nearly stalling at times. When I managed to park up where I was going, looked round the back to see it puffing a bit of black smoke on idle, so gave it a quick rev, and there was more black smoke. Not a huge cloud, but it was definitely there. On the way home it was fine, I drove it with kid gloves, and couldnt notice any smoke from the back, but you can't see much out of the back of these anyway eh?! So, it looks like bad news for me. Money is tight right now and a new engine wasnt something I was looking forward to getting as I will have to borrow the money for it. You motley lot reckon my engine is gonna give up the ghost soon? As I say it was fine on the way home...
  18. Buy a cheapo. Theres nothing to say a cheap VR will have a wrecked engine. I totally agree with H88RA, put your own mark on it. If you buy it done up, it's not your car. Yeah it will look nice - "Nice car mate!", "Thanks, I bought it like it" isnt quite the same as "Nice car mate!", "thanks, yeah, it cost me some money but I did it all myself and I'm well proud of it." is it?
  19. Mine is an H plate G60, doesn't have ABS. I have the brown wire for VAG-COM, but not the other two wires it needs. Apparently some just came without it from the factory.
  20. It's not really strong or anything though, but its deffo there. Hmm......

    Silly Question...

Oh ok, I have a ported and polished head too, but been told I apparently only have a stage 4 charger, not full blend. Not the only thing i was bullshitted about by the seller....

    Silly Question...

One of my friends with a Golf G60 (the infamous G60 PM) runs 17psi on his R1 Charger with a 68mm pulley and no toothed belt... and dammit mods, stop being quicker than me, I had just gone into my other post to copy and paste my result - but youd got there before me! grrr....

    Silly Question...

Right, I ran the boost test today on my car (65mm pulley running on an R1 charger, RSR outlet, stainless steel induction kit), and I was expecting some high results, but the result (number 2 on the MFA Extra functions, yeah?) came up at 2000, tops. I was expecting more than this, and the charger was allegedly recently rebuilt with G-Werks. I read that the belt slips at high boost, but surely 14.5psi is a bit low for this spec? Darren, if you're reading this, is there any way I can check when the previous owner rebuilt the charger with you? Any help would be great, cheers!
