  1. Agreed! Not had much to do with mine recently but took it out for a good blast today and really felt the love return - especially on good roads and when being able to wind the window down before a short, sharp, full throttle overtaking maneuvre :D So, so much better than the works daily (Golf 2.0 TDI Blue motion). Just wanna keep driving around looking for more fun 8)
  2. Green G plater Northbound on M5 just before J14 yesterday @ c5pm
  3. Grey G60 on Estorils in Wiedner Haupstrasse, Vienna - 16/9/10 @ 7pm 8)
  4. As above really Jake. He's either a idiot who thinks people will come and see a car and give him £2K for such a pathetic advert (I could write a better one in 30 seconds ffs) or he's got plenty to hide - which no doubt you'll unearth. Would want a good look at the service history which he's decent enough to describe as "some". Write down the date and mileage on a piece of paper and see it makes any kind of sense. Right now my money is on it being a lemon.
  5. Very nice black VR6 with all electrics working heading into Charfield this morning 8) I think I know whose it was
  6. Not tried the DIY kit but have had it done professionally (by a mobile tyre outfit) a few years ago - worked a treat - think they charged £40 which was acceptable as I needed it fixed that night. Works by dissolving the rubber and reforming I think so good as new apparently.
  7. Chatting to my optician this morning as he expressed an interest in sports cars - he's got a VXR8 - reckons its been tweaked to 625bhp  Cost him £26K
  8. I think so - mine's black. Guess a beige carpet would show the dirt rather quickly in everyday use.
  9. Would fuel injectors be a factor? Ultrasonic cleaning? Last time I was at D&G we discussed this as a non critical option
  10. This has worked for me for the last 12 years. Never had a damp battery cover since. Black foam draught excluder. Bit hard to find these days in black. Runs from the windscreen deflection plate down to almost the headlight. Being black it isn't noticeable. . What a good idea. There are bunch of various foams in different profiles available from here: http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/bbCMS/shopping.asp?intDepartmentId=1 Too much choice! - which do you reckon would be best??
  11. /\ Good price that. I'm pretty sure that if you look after them they will last 10 years or more, having said that the razor blade option when done well can look as good as OEM
  12. Sorry to hear that Jake - are getting the work paid for by the offender's insurance?
  13. Car! Heart over head if the cost is not so very high it'll haunt you. In this case it does not sound like it is. If a dream burns brightly pursue it. Even if you only achieve it for a while you will carry it with you for ever and that will be worth more to you than money or bricks and mortar and will help you achieve other things in ways you cannot even know about. No one will ever be able to take it from you. If a dream is really part of you rather than an infatuation then think long and hard before you kill it. It seems to me very easy to kid yourself (ourselves) that you are merely delaying things but its a sad fact of life that delay all too often brings complications whether they be family commitments, changed health, or finances. At the moment, everywhere I look I see friends and family who dreamt of a golden age in the future when their dreams would become reality yet they now find themselves unable to get there and can only look back and wish for their time over again. Its incredibly sad. I don't think I've met anyone who achieved remarkable things in their youth and now regrets them, even one of my childhood heroes who had a difficult ending said "I spent a lot of money on booze, fast cars and loose women the rest I just squandered" As I see it life is not about accumulating assets or even conforming to conventions but I should say I don't knock those who find fulfillment in some of them because we are all different and afterall a convention would not have become one if it had not been quite popular and successful! I find a good way of resolving really hard decisions is to try the "whats the worst that can happen" test. If the answer ain't so bad then that can often help clear the path to the right decision. Good luck with whatever you decide!
  14. Spotted last Sunday - White K Plate just outside Patterdale in the Lake District - I had just driven over the Kirkstone Pass :) on the way to a walk up Helvellyn
  15. This really is a lovely car. Paintwork is superb and its general condition is way up there. Ian - I think you've grabbed yourself a real bargain there! I'm sure you will lavish care and attention on it but it already looked superb the other week :)
  16. Me too then cos I've been driving Corrados for 14 years and only broken down once (a timing belt on 16V that went the evening before it was due to be replaced!). Admitedly the VR6 is a weekend car now but did 25,000 faultless miles in it as a daily before retiring it in 2008. TBH I really miss it so may look for another as a daily when the company lease car term runs out next year.
  17. Ultimately its market forces that will resolve this - whether we like it or not the laws of supply and demand that determine prices. The price floor will be the break up values (less the hassle factor) and the ceiling the point at which people are no longer prepared to pay a premium for something that offers less conventional value for money than more modern or alternative cars. In a small market place like this there will always be exceptions though, so well cared for/rare/heavily modded/historic examples will have there own market place which might appear irrational to the casual observer  Recent examples being Shaun's VR6, Sir Ian Holms ex car and a low mileage nugget G60 that went to a very good home I agree that there are some ambitious asking prices around which may be influenced by how much the owners have invested in them - trouble with wanting to get your "money in" back is of course that a £ spent today is almost always worth less to a buyer tomorrow. I do think keepng and maintaining these cars is getting more expensive so we are inevitably gonna see a lot of churn while the market is fed by folks who have put a foot in and found the water far too cold. Keep a C for more than a 3 or 4 years and its probably inevitable you're gonna have a really nasty bill amongst the more reasonable ones. I really envy those who have the time and skill to reduce the pain by doing it themselves but am eternally grateful for the knowledge there is on here as well as some really great garages/mechanics who know these cars like the back of their hands. These cars are not an investment is how I view it - just a huge amount of fun when they are working as they should :)
  18. Definitely not normal! I'd usually see mid 30's or higher from my valver. I'd do an old fashioned calculation check on the MPG before you panic though
  19. Pretty sure Vince @ Stealth would have checked mine when he put new cams in last year (wish I'd remembered to specifically ask) but will get it checked again next year for additional peace of mind.

That looks a great job :salute:
  21. Hard to second guess I think. Some convincing arguements above but on the other side of the coin I think there is something very special about these cars which may defy logic- we know they have always had good press through the years which has given them credibility amongst petrolheads but more importantly people who who have driven them have loved them and been hooked. Inevitably the numbers of decent examples will dwindle and the people who were hooked and had to sell may get to the point in their life where they have some cash to splash and they may just do that on an old Corrado that comes up. In 15 years time if there are less than say 750 around the prices could be quite high - say just 50 come up for sale each year, could imagine good ones then going for big money. At the moment though I'm not anywhere near thinking of mine as an investment at least in financial terms the emotional investment is something different and that is still giving a great return so I'm nowhere near contempating cashing in. My prediction - 2025, "VR6 in great condition, 150,000 miles, 50 kilos of receipts  , £27,500" Start saving now :)
  22. Received 3.68 Final drive from Gary (aka GVK) today. Arrived in good time, as described and was very well packaged - couldn't ask for more, thanks! :salute:
  23. Madness! There's a business opportunity in there somewhere - anybody fancy going into the Dragons Den with me? £50,000 for 20% of the business :) It also amazes me that after all these years of buying bits from VW they have not once written to me about new models or parts offers - very arrogant approach to the customer in my opinion.
