Deffo thermostat i ran a low temp one for 2 years and it sat at 71 deg when driving. Using lots of petrol decided to replace the stat for a geniune 80 deg one and now sits at 81 deg. So change your stat and job should be a goodun.

Nope i know 312s work with standard vr master cylinder. Glad that the obvious question is okay. Definitely sounds like air is still in there mate. I know i had to do mine a few time to get an ok pedal then i drove it and the pedal got better over time.

Have you got the bleed nipples the right way up (silly question but people have done that in the past)

Some people swear by always doing the reset but ive only done it once in the last 9 years. As you said normal driving should sort it out. If you do have any problems then obviously do the procedure.
