1. I can't reccomend the updated shift enough. It just feels so solid and it's the perfect throw in my opinion. Also, I managed to do a bit of digging and found a way to get the reverse lights working without having to fiddle with fitting a new plug. I spent much of the weekend taking my front end off to tidy a few bits, I'd had a small coolant leak as the Mocal was pushing on the crack pipe, so took the Mocal off and re-routed it a bit. No more leaks :) Tried to change my clutch slave for the 2nd time but the bolt on the mounting pipe is totally fubar'd! So just had to put it back on. :( Will try and get a new pipe and try a 3rd time as I want it done before it goes to Vince ideally. Tidied a few other bits up and, after shorting the starter, managed to get the car running ok. Took it for a good blast last night: in love with the gear change! so, so much better than every before. Car was flawless. Then I pulled up at home and realised that I had a coolant leak coming from the bottom of the rad. BRILLIANT! I guess it's a 17 year old rad, and the car did run a bit hot in the summer so it's probably best to get a nice shiny one in before doubling the power... These cars sure can test your strength! At least I'm safe in the knowledge that a time will soon come when I've replaced 90% of the things that can go wrong.
2. I've had a good luck around but couldn't find anything: when using search, is there a way to return posts containing what you're looking for, not just return threads that mention it somewhere within? Sorry if I'm being dumb.
3. Still got vr6 flywheel? Assume it's the same as a 2.9? How much posted to oxford?
4. Nah, I just thought it looked good for wrapping bundles of wires/coolant hoses etc
5. Kev, I was just wondering where you got this from: Looks like just what I'm looking for!

Clutch Slave pipe

lilfuzzer: Have you got a photo? is it postable size? Supercharged: Vagcat doesn't seem to work at the moment (or like windows 7) I don't suppose you know the part number?

VR6 Flywheel

Looking for a cheap VR6 flywheel close to Oxford to send off to be lightened. If anyone has one I can borrow, then give back the one out of my car when Stealth swap them over that would be even more excellenter! :)
8. Yeah I knew I probably should, but didn't want to have to go through the whole ecu reset procedure again. Oh well, live and learn!
9. Thanks bud! That'd explain why my horn stopped working a while ago! Well jump started it earlier and it started! :) May just get a new battery to be on the safe side as it's well over 4 years old.
10. Ok bit of progress tonight:turns out I'd unplugged the single pin connector on the starter so I could screw the reverse switch in! Car now turns over but doesn't fire. The fuel pump doesn't seem to be priming. Also, does anyone know what the 3 10Amp fuses 11-13 from the left do? One of them had blown so I replaced it, still no joy :(
11. I seem to remember someone on clubgti I think did lightened flywheels on an exchange basis. I can't seem to find the thread though at the moment. ---------- Post added at 01:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:11 PM ---------- Here's the link: http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=200146&highlight=lightened+flywheel

Clutch Slave pipe

I had a look on my bentley and it looks like there is a join at the bracket underneath the expansion tank. Mine looks a little different as there is a little loop of hardline too!? Any chance of just getting that part? :)
13. Eugh! This is the last thing I need at the moment! I was trying to FIX all the little things wrong with the car, not create new ones. Will have to go round with a multimeter this evening and see if I can spot anything amiss. Is there any way to test if the ECU is working (without VAGCOM) If it's all gone tits up I guess it's a good excuse to go OBD2... ---------- Post added at 10:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:46 AM ---------- Does anyone have a photo of where the main earth lead from the battery is mean't to mount? A bad earth may be part of my problem.
14. I don get why you'd go to all that trouble making the car look stunning, then leave the bonnet bra on?!
15. Oops yeah I should of clarified a touch! The dash lights come on as normal, turn the key and it doesn't crank or anything, fuel pump didn't prime.
16. I had the front end off yesterday to do a few tidying up jobs, one included sorting out a new reverse switch. While doing the bolt up I managed to short the starter motor on I guess something that was earthed, lots of sparks etc. Now when I go to start the car nothing happens. Does anyone wise have a suggestion as to what I've done!? Blown a fuse or relay?

Clutch Slave pipe

So I went to change my Clutch Slave today but the 11mm bolt on the side is totally rounded off, so I had to put the old one back in :( Anyone got a good condition pipe going? Does it go all the way to the master in one piece, or is there a nice join somewhere?
18. Harry I have this exact problem too. Most annoying/likely to happen at petrol stations as that seems the optimum amount of time! If you leave the key turned for a couple of minutes sometimes you will hear the pump prime and away you go. I've replaced fuel pump, sender, filter, ecu and fuel pump relays and ignition switch in the last couple of years. How's your battery/ earths/ starter motor?
19. The height adjustable ones are megabucks new, if still available. Replacement fixed columns can be sourced for a lot less and really improve the feel of the steering. Have a search for the thread.
20. I wish I'd know about the Polo parts a year ago! The cables/ends are Mk4 specific so you need them too. I think there's some good photos of the differences on this post: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4668026-Euro-Shifter-parts-options-for-retrieving-and-slight-rant&p=63136656&viewfull=1#post63136656 Polo on the left, 02A in the middle, MK4 on the right.
21. Bit of an update: Vince is snowed under as a mk2 R32 is taking a lot longer than expected so I've still got a few weeks before my car goes in for surgery. The wait is killing me! Still, it's giving me a good amount of time to go round the car and really sort out as many of the annoying niggles as I can, hopefully it will make Vinces job easier if there are no horrible suprises dotted around. At the weekend I finally managed to update my whole gearchange mechanism to the much simpler, studier Mk4 Golf/Audi S3/TT design. I'd had a TT shift tower and "pre-modified" S3 shift mechanism lieing around for over a year. When I tried to fit the pre-modified shift mech last year, I spent a good two hours trying to force it into the tunnel and eventually gave up and refitted my original sloppy change (see http://www.youtube.com/user/pollshady#p/u/3/p0-IxA1DwyM) Anyway, I'd been wanting to try and refit it before all the Turbo gubbins gets in the way, when Lo-and-behold a thread came up (http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?54167-MK4-Polo-Shifter). Thanks to mikkijaynes help I ordered 3 Polo parts to rehouse the shifter parts and went about installing the whole lot on sunday. It's a pretty simple job, just very annoying getting to some of the bolts with the coolant pipes +starter in the way,the Polo housing fit into the Tunnel perfectly though :) Proper adjustment is also made very easy by a pin in the shift housing and another in the tunnel. Overall my gearchange feels brand new! The throw is a lot shorter in all directions, and it feels a lot tighter and positive going between the gears. I have 2 shift weights so I'm going to experiment by cutting the weight off one of them to see how it affects gearchange. As it stands I'm a bit worried that the height of it might rub through a coolant hose over time. Will update with some photos later on, but there's not much visual bling to be seen, more under the hood than anything! Next on the list: take the front end off to sort my Mocal hoses out!
22. Would it be possible to get a single all black matt for the drivers side? My others are mint but mine is Fubar'd!

MK4/Polo Shifter

I think the shifter tower was from a mk4 Golf, and the shift mech and cables from an S3. But they should be the same. I then got TT shiftweight which reduces throw a bit I think and all the Polo parts from earlier in this thread. I'll get some photos up asap.
24. Depending on which part is broken you might be able to DIY fix it. There's a guide somewhere on here showing how to use a barrel adjuster from a bike to modify the release leaver. I did it to mine a while ago and the release feels a lot more positive now.

MK4/Polo Shifter

My god! Got it all adjusted and back on all 4 wheels earlier and the gear change is amazing! Like a whole new car :) Feels tighter and the throw is shorter than my GFs 30k mile MR2 so I'm pretty happy at the moment.
