  1. I believe g6016v's engine was a 1940cc pg block.
  2. Indeed it isn't. The problem I've got is I'm only going on what the American's do with the ABA (IIRC) block that apparently is the same as the 2e. They just drop the 16v head straight on, so it begs the question of wether the ABA and 2e are indeed the same, and if so how do they over come the valve/piston issue? It could be that there isn't an issue but from what I can remember from looking at kr pistons the valve reliefs are towrds the edge of the piston.I think most vw 16v pistons are similar in that respect,I may be wrong though. Its something I thing you need to consider is all.Not wishing to put a fly in your ointment  I'll let you know how I get on with mine. :)
  3. i'm going to put plasticine on the pistons and then turn the engine over to see if they hit. 3a pistons are also dished but its the outer bit that i'm worried about. :| . If it touches at all I will look into either getting valve recesses cut into the pistons or else finding more suitable piston.I guess even if by some miracle the vales are not bent on impact, surely its goin to accelerate wear on the head components!?!!! Its never simple.
  4. r u uising a kr head? will the valves clear the 2e pistons? 16v heads usually have angled valves and thus 16v pistons usually have valve reliefs cut into them to accommodate. I am looking into the same thing for my g6016v using an 8v block.
  5. again 9a and pg shafts apear to be the same as per etka. 8)
  6. re question 1, etka has 053 103 157 A oil spray jets listed agains 2e,abf,aep and ady engine codes. Game on mate.
  7. there are a couple of people braking kr's in the for sale section at the mo i think. You might get lucky...
  8. Thats engine conversion number 2 on my list.:) And anyway the same issues with lowering compression will apply. I will be able to re-use this block that I am building. I'll post something up when I have made more progress.
  9. hiya well, there is a mark3 2 litre 16v (abf) sat on its belly in my local scrappie. I want a few things from inside the block, oil pump, intermediate shaft and oil pump gear etc. They are just so busy that they have no time to take the engine out. I'm actually considering using the abf head as opposed to the Kr,with its smaller intake ports for a little bit more low down grunt.(Although the late Kr's are apparently the same as the abf heads so I need to check the part numbers on my KR in etka) As for the all important pistons conundrum i am looking into if I will definately need to have valve reliefs cut into the 3a pistons. It would make sense just to use the existing setup in the block then everything is taken care of in terms of rod ratio/deck height etc. ...but then there's the posibility of maybe re-boring too ,I hav't estimated for that yet,I would have to see what that did to the CR as it would take it up again. So to answer your question.. Nightly :D
  10. I can't remember much lateral movement!??! Are the pins still straight? Might be worth buying a repair kit and re-greasing the pins etc?! I would have thought that was the main thing?! Unfortunately you are looking at >£100 for new pins as they only come with carrier. :(
  11. So to clarify, the central bolt (19mm) holds the crank pulley, but not the alternator pulley? correct the central bolt is only for the crank pulley.
  12. The golf lads discuss this one quite a bit over at clubgti.com/forum site if your interested. I've been doing some reasearch on such things at the mo.
  13. I did a google. Cam locking tool? I may invest. Can you get them from any dealers then? grazie.
  14. I'm with riley an extension pole for your ratchet is better than an air gun imo. Use lots of leverage. :)
  15. Black smoke is associated with running rich I believe. Are your spark plugs sooty too? when you take the blue temp sender out the car should run a few rpm lower, this should be audible when you take said plug out. CO content in mixture is adjusted by the potentiometer in the intake pipe b4 the throttlebody. However this should be done with a gas analyzer in the exhuast system b4 the cat.(As per Bentley manual.DanVW did a post about it) I would check the resistance of the CO pot b4 doing the above,it needs to be about 750 ohms(this is from memory please check). It has a range of 0 to 2kohms. If it is wildly out then replace. Its frustrating when they don't work properly,I know.We don't have the luxury of vag-com diagnostic capabilities like the VR's :( Keep at it though. cheers.
  16. apparently the 9a block is vw's version of the audi 6a block which has the same dimms as a 1.8 liter block?!?! I have read this on a few diff web sites now but that doesn't make it true. Can anyone confirm.Just for curiositys sake? :)
  17. The abf block is also taller than the Pg block and thus creates a few clearance and valve timing issues(such is my understanding). :)
  18. i'm buying an ABF on tuesday.(It has a few internal parts of a 9a block that I need) I'm going to measure it up,i.e deck height etc,and see how it compares to the PG block.
  19. Hello I have a g6016v query. Please no posts questioning my choice of engine conversion. I have made up my mind. I will be starting from a g60 base so I am a bit new in the ways of the 16 valve engine. I will be using a audi 80 2 litre short block(bubble block). Its actually a 3a(8 v) rather than a 6a (16v) version so I guess I have made life differcult for myself. The Low compression pistons are in hand,I think :) . Anyway.. at the momment I am just concentrating on the basics in regards to the block. Now apprently you need a 16v dizzy, oil pump, and auxillary gear/shaft . I will have a plate to block off the distributor in the block as I have a KR head and thus will run the distributor from that. Is a oil pump, aux gears/shafts etc from a 2 litre 16 valve the same as a oil pump from and 1.8 16 valve? It will help for when I am sourcing these items. Thanks in advance.
  20. Very interesting, good luck with this. :) I thought my shed was bad with tools and car bits. 8)
  21. if you havn't found anyone by next week give us a shout and i'll pop down. I may need some more parts off that Kr lump as well if thats ok?
  22. have you tried it in both cars?
  23. I think its easy to start taking a car for granted when you are just using it to shunt you to and from work and sainsbury etc etc. I just bought a daily driver. Looks like pooh but Its made me appreciate the C more. I just like knowing its there for when i want to use it and if something goes wrong with it then it is not the end of the world so i wont start to despise it because i can't get around. I think i saw your car at the BVF. Its near enough the complete article so I guess maybe your bored as already stated!?!! Good luck with what ever you decide.
