Eibach springs wont fit corrado vr6 storm 95/96..Top mount issue?
g0ldf1ng3r replied to ShivasRegal's topic in Drivetrain
act with caution if poly bushing as more often than not I believe they make the rado much harsher than most desire IIRC it is a must to go with OEM rear beam bushes due to the way the beam is meant to have a degree of flex in it, as per its design, which a poly bush can remove also, again IIRC, some people do install R32 front wish bone bushes as they are meant to be better than standard but personally I have found the OEM ones to be fine same with gear box & engine mounts - I think many of the aftermarket options produce a higher degree of harsh ride. Personally I have changed the front & rear gearbox mounts for OEM & have a vibratechnics front engine mount with OEM rear -

as say I didn't want to pee on your fire m8 but I wanted you to know the risks / downsides of what you were planning. I couldn't recommend any suitable lowered dampers sorry. when I researched suspension prior to buying the KW's I only really considered coilovers as they come in kit form & the damper is matched to the spring rate & their max / min damper travel. my main concern was buying a reputable brand which had excellent reviews by both corrado & non corrado owners & also one which I could have some faith in. you hear / read lots of horror stories about cheap suspension / coilovers or unmatched springs & dampers. lots of stuff about how cheap suspension not only performs poorly but also don't last many miles. I think ive done about 55+ K miles on my V1's now I decided on KW as all 3 versions get excellent reviews all round, you can deal with them direct (& I negotiated a discount with them to), I believe they will customise spring rates for you if you ask (check with kevin bacon as he says a slightly softer spring rate on the V1's gives a crackingly good balance), they are very reputable & used to make the suspension for the Porsche Carrera Cup cars ;) suspension is one of the primary things that make a car what it is & should not be skimped on. kinda like tires as they actually make contact with the road you drive on & it makes sense that if your suspension cant keep the tire on the road properly then it can only be detrimental. it would be like turbo'ing a VR & then using 20 year old petrol to drive it.....bl00dy awful lol as for the running gear m8 that was all tackled incrementally over a fairly long period. I don't have any part numbers to hand or costs sorry but it included: track rod ends, drop links, cv joints, front wishbone bushes, rear beam bushes, front & rear suspension top mounts I had the wishbone bushes & rear beam bushes done quite a while after installing my KW V1's & they made such a difference. a much more 'cushioned' feel to it whilst maintaining the superb cornering I think rado's need to be a 'process of continual improvement' ;) lol I hope that info helps but do check out the redfox post I linked as it is a brilliant read :) -

I feared as much. Personally, for technical reasons, I would never consider this option m8 have a read of Redfox's extremely well detailed post on suspension & how to improve handling here.... http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?23595-The-Suspension-Discussion-Thread/page102 & I quote from that.... 'Don't fall for the temptation to install lowering sprng to the original dampers, as they need to be shorter in their body, to Work within their normal range when driving. Don't do it!' thus the above implies that you will potentially ruin your 'ride' by fitting springs to dampers which they are not designed for unfortunately there really is no cheap option when it comes to suspension & I would highly recommend replacing all the cars running gear as the new front wishbone bushes & rear beam bushes for example make such a difference to ride comfort sorry to p155 on your fire m8, I just wanted to make you fully aware if you were not already -
really sorry, I forgot to check - I will do so later

hi chuggs are you fitting the lower springs to standard dampers or are you changing the dampers too? reason I ask is it is unadvisable to fit a lowering spring to a standard damper as you will reduce the travel of the latter & it will not perform effectively or well -
congrats on selling the rado wayne hopefully your next one, whenever that may be, will not be so troublesome
-
it is in the suppliers section m8 http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?91265-Your-Friendly-Neighbourhood-VW-Parts-Department!-FORUM-DISCOUNT-AVAIALBLE!

wow! thanks MZpog -
Hmmmm odd - if it has an uprated loom the voltage should be ok I would check the output at the lights with a volt meter & go from there. if you have over 12 volts it would imply your thoughts are correct as your lights are working that would imply that any fuses or relays in said uprated loom should be ok - else you would have no light at all in some combination thus if the above is all true it could just be the bulbs themselves are dim unless the uprated loom that is fitted is itself loosing voltage - which could be proven by taking the voltage reading at the lights
-
hello there have you got a tool to check the voltage at the headlights? not that is really matter as I would imagine that you are suffering from the usual standard headlight loom function - such that the voltage has to travel from the battery to the dash headlight switch & then back to the lights themselves. this results in a less than satisfactory voltage at the lights themselves & as such you get candles for headlights the easy fix is to get yourself a headlight loom upgrade & some better headlight bulbs the loom upgrades are an easy install, but make sure you don't get an ebay special as they tend to be inferior, & essentially re-route the voltage so as it doesn't go to the dash switch & thus the lights get the full 12v+ the need these are popular now that some other users no longer make them on this forum..... http://www.rayneautomotive.co.uk/corrado/25-uk-spec-corrado-uprated-headlight-loom-.html?search_query=corrado&results=2&cate= personally I have a KUR2Y uprated loom (he used to make & sell them on here) & use ring xenon ultima bulbs

I see - thanks that what I was guessing not sure from memory if the one I have has a twist or not - will check tonight
-
pretty sure I have a good quality one in my workshop - I can check tonight, take a pic & let you know tomorrow if you want? what do you mean by plain stem? EDIT - just in case.....I got a nice stubby plain stem one from my local motor factors for less than a tenna ;)

switchable is definitely the first place to look then just in case you haven't one to hand, rado fuse box diagram... http://forums.kilometermagazine.com/showthread.php?4690182-94-SLC-fusebox-diagram Oh & scotch eggs with runny yolk!? Pls divulge on such treats?
-
would the switchable live not feed from the ignition switch? thus giving you a starting point as if the cars starts then the source has the correct feed & it is failing somewhere along the line
-
that is an odd one - you obviously have a working switchable live somewhere else you would be getting ignition problems I would check fuses but also try & trace the switchable live to see if it has a break in it somewhere I believe it is ok to put both feeds together but the disadvantage of doing so would be that your stereo will be permanently on & as such could be a drain on the battery
-
worth trying swapping the permanent & switchable live over normally when a stereo loses settings after being turned off it is due to such however, unsure why it would sometimes not turn on with ignition & sometimes not
-
no probs m8 :)
-
cracking idea wendy - we can all customise lol

take a look here m8 http://www.liquidleather.com/ the kits they do here is meant to be the daddy of leather seat treating / conditioning / restoring
