The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
g0ldf1ng3r replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
unfortunately you will - any large structure development in front of the house requires planning permission - unless it was a simple 4 post & a cover setup i think i know this as i have had to submit plans for a garage 2 weeks ago - a lovely cost of £231 just to apply as well to the side or rear of the house, whilst also not going past the front line of the house, does not require planning AFAIK -
i chose KW V1's & they have been great for over 90000 miles as with most things you get what you pay for - avoid Gaz lol IIRC if you get them direct from KW i believe you can ask for a slightly softer spring rate to make the ride softer - Kevin Bacon mentioned it on here years ago im sure
-
ahhhh - ive just remembered why my price was more reasonable - i was able to get my mechanic to make the actual purchase so as HiSpec gave me trade prices it doesnt explain the huge increase but does part of it i suppose
-
that is a shame, personally i would call them back & ask for a manager to check the price again against what i paid in Nov 2016
-
shit!! thats some price increase from when i brought mine - did you tell them the price i paid? i missed your other post sorry but no i still have standard rear calipers
-
i just phoned them fendervg & the guy sorted it all out. i do recall them saying the discs were off a volvo 240 but not sure of size when sat under the 15" speedline they fill them completely - seriously i reckon there is about the thickness of a finger nail clearance between caliper edge & inner wheel give them a call m8, they were very helpful oh & ive just remembered how i heard of HiSpec - it was down to wheeler dealers program using them for new calipers for a porsche they did
-
no m8 i didnt change the master cylinder - apart from the braking parts themselves it was just the spacers & braided hoses needed in addition the pedal feel under foot changed a little & got a touch longer as they say but the actual retardation is night & day above the factory brakes, hit them hard & they really do throw you forwards if you're not holding on tight lol plus i love the bright yellow colour of them, it really pops against the blackberry body!
-
here you go m8 so, for those interested i think ive now covered all the details with HiSpec - spoke to a very helpful guy called Alex who had lots of useful info other than just product related Alex got his designer to do the template drawings so as to confirm if their Billet4 solution will fit under the 15" speedline - they have calculated they will if use a 10mm spacer they also have more options on discs & pads which we discussed in some depth & tried to ball park the difference in actual braking performance. their kit price can be brought down by using plain discs rather than grooved - a £50 saving - as such the ex-vat price for Billet 4 (anodised) kit would be £453.50 to this would need to be added hoses, pads & the spacers spacers HiSpec can do for £5 each - winner! (edit - dont buy as need hub centric) hoses, again HiSpec can do their braded hoses with the necessary banjo connector for £20.37 a side pads - choice of - EBC ultimax @ £18 - EBC Green @ £45.30 - EBC Blue @ £60 or he said 'we cant supply but i can recommend' Brembo pads from a motor factors (they use a volvo 240 pad) thus if go with plain discs & Ultimax pads the cost is coming in at £523.04 ex vat this would be in comparison to putting 'as new' refurb'd calipers on with EBC green pads & Brembo plain discs at £350 or £390 if EBC USR discs

having been through all the options for front brakes on my VR & having done a cost comparison i can personally recommend HiSpec 4 pot's as a much better alternative to 288's the 4 pot's are the biggest brakes you can fit under the standard 15" alloy, one of the reasons i went for them IIRC i got everything needed from HiSpec with exception of the 10mm spacers, as the ones i got from them were not hub centric. i believe i put a cost break down on my build thread but there was not too much of a price difference i can vouch for them being a cracking set of brakes & massive improvement from standard

yeah i was pretty pleased with it - i upped the value to £3k as well if i hadnt seen the end result of what the painter can produce i would be very worried. it is the failure promises that is the annoying part & has really let him down not much i can do really but just spoke with him & paint is due to be going on early next week also looking like monday for news on the 16v, there goes my drive out on the weekend lol
-
replied to your PM m8
-
still no sign of the VR coming back, i must admit im starting to loose my patience now 😞 however, the 16v got picked up by my mechanic & am crossing fingers & toes it passes the mot this week had a tidy quote for insuring the valver from HIC, £143
-
its is just ridiculous isnt it m8 - soon as the word "corrado" is used then prices for parts go astronomical
-
holy mother of god how the hell can classic VW justify such a hefty price tag for a part
-
pleasure m8 - i know Pilkington have stock of the options mentioned i went for the green with green sun stripe & the encapsulated version - will drop a pic on here when i finally get the VR back
-
good info m8 - sounds pricey compared to what i paid Pilkingtons though
-
hi m8 i have just been through this very quandary for my VR, fortunately my friend has a m8 who works at Pilkingtons they had the following options in stock - green tint screen (i believe all corrado's had a green tint front screen as well as the side windows from factory), green tint with green sun stripe, green tint with blue stripe they also then had an option for an encapsulated screen or non-encapsulated screen, which i researched & means that the non-encapsulated is literally just the screen. i went for the encapsulated, which was more costly but upon arrival it has the external trim already attached & came with a few other fitting bits it did not come with the 6 wedges used for correct positioning though - they are still available from the dealers part number 443845631A hope that help but hit me up if you have any questions
-
Sorry sean i forgot to reply i was told i would be sent pics but hey ho ive not received any some may notice it is quite a long time since the above posts & am sad to report that on week 15 of a 5 week estimated job time i am still without the VR ive been working to this for 10 freaking years & just as she went to the shop covid crap hit & then he has family troubles, honestly you just couldnt make it up - am hoping, nay praying, that it is ready this weekend but if not it had ******* better be the following weekend however, i did kick myself up the backside & got the 16v running yesterday with help from a friend. siphoned the old fuel out, of which there was more than i expected, a full jerry can of v power & some ez start & she is ALIVE!!! fingers crossed, after it has been off the road for another 2 years, that i can get a MOT on it - if it does then its another list of to-do's - as the list shortens for the VR it lengthens for the 16v lol
-
indeed they are, not often the dealers have parts for us nowadays i would imagine the ones currently on the vehicle will remove ok & be reused
-
i can vouch for the Roose hoses too, ive got their blue ones on my VR i would recommend using the original VW hose clips rather than buying their jubilee clips though, the VW ones are a constant tension clip so provide a better fitment & are easy with the fitting tool
-
holy cow!!! i think i may be going up in the loft on the weekend & getting the Zender up on ebay LOL
-
ha ha no need to worry there lol the only thing i would ever sell is the Zender over spoiler
-
Thanks keyo will take a look at the links I recall the freedom Design brand & yes as far as i know they were a US copy of Kamei - sadly i hit a dead end investigating them as well i guess i have been lucky lenses as i have a very good pair of indicators in place of the old & also still have the Hella fog lenses which came with the car when i brought it, also being fitted as part of the refurb should anyone reading this post have any interest in it i have an original Zender over spoiler in the loft which i would part with for some gold coinage - https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3028246-FS-Super-Rare-NOS-Zender-Corrado-Full-Bumper-Set-(front-rear)-699
-
great video that Keyo you termed that right, most are very max power lol TBH i think ive only ever seen a handful of these kits in the 20 years ive been driving a Corrado. 1 was in an age old for sale ad over in the US, 2012 or something IIRC - 1 is on my 16v and the other is being fitted to the VR i even spoke to Kamei in Germany quite a few years ago & they checked if there was any lingering on their shelves, sadly not damn it i cant wait to get the VR back, its been gone more than double the estimated time now
-
that they are - personally it is probably the only 1 i would fit as many of the alternatives are too garish in fact it is the Kamei kit that drew me to the valver when i brought it for the 1st time about 20 years ago, sadly in between owning it the 1st & 2nd time someone removed the front splitter but the side & rear skirts remain. it was only due to this forum & a very keen eye that i managed to get a 2nd full X1 kit, thanks goldie 😉 - which currently being adapted to late model width & fitted during the VR restoration, ive pinched the eyebrow off the valver to complete the VR
